Jon Ryan Feels He Can Play ‘For a Couple More Years’

Wish we would’ve had the chance to see Ryan punt more than once in that game. Im sure he will get time on Thursday, though. -
Ian Rapoport: "Josh Allen is not quite ready" to start
BillsFan4 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I never gamble but damn, I knew I should have laid some $$ on peterman when the betting odds were +820... lol. Seriously though, I didn’t think Allen looked quite ready yet either. Although he handled himself very well under the circumstances. But I have to wonder what the motive was for the constant rotation on the offensive line. We didn’t really see that in the other preseason games, not like yesterday anyway... The offensive line was not the same for 3 straight series the entire time Allen was in the game. They had Groy playing 3 different positions, all of which require different footwork. They rotated guys in an out like crazy with Allen in the game and IMO it put the line in a bad position to have success against Cincy’s defensive front. Redmond talked about it after the game - how hard it is to play well under those circumstances. And McDermott said it was planned before the game, so it wasn’t due to poor play. They also seemed to call a very basic offense that didn’t do Allen many favors, either (but it was preseason, so that is not unusual at all). It it just didn’t seem like they put Allen in the best position to succeed, IMO. -
peterman will start, always the plan

How that’s for following the data points and reading between the lines? ? -
Another good article on Mittelstadt (sub. required). https://theathletic.com/491592/2018/08/27/after-initial-taste-of-nhl-casey-mittelstadt-continues-to-grind-towards-first-full-year-with-the-sabres/ Interesting blurb on Eichel - I love hearing this type of stuff. He was also the first one who took Casey out to dinner last season when he got to Buffalo, and he took Dahlin out on the town/to dinner this offseason as well. Eichel seems to have really matured and is hopefully becoming the leader that this team needs. You could see it in his interviews near the end of last year. I remember a local buffalo reporter saying (sometime around the last 1/3 of last season) that something had changed in Eichel. Like he had an epiphany or something - that he had to be the one to step up and lead and he could not allow this (type of season) to happen again.

Here’s my prediction - Dunkirk Don lasts about as long here this time as he did every other time he’s made a new screen name for TBD. lol -
I disagree. I think there is a lot he can learn by practicing against an NFL defense all season, by getting NFL level coaching (on his footwork, mechanics, reads etc etc) all season and by getting to see how things are done in the NFL on a weekly basis. He just made some significant changes to his footwork this offseason, as well. Let him keep drilling it and making it muscle memory. I am not sure being under constant pressure behind a weak o line is the best way to accomplish that. Guys tend to revert to what they know under siege like that. They can always put him in later this season, too. As ive said before, it’s a lot easier to go from AJ/Nate to Allen than it is from Allen to AJ/Nate. I’ve said all along that Id much rather err on the side of caution if Allen didn’t look ready, and I stand by that now.

I don’t think Allen should start day 1. He was playing today like he is still adjusting to the speed of the NFL, which is 100% expected. Things haven’t slowed down for h8m yet and that is perfectly ok. Nate doesn’t have nearly the talent Allen does, but you can tell there is a noticeable difference in his ability to quickly process what he is seeing. Let Allen sit and learn. Start Nate or AJ. That’s my opinion. You really only get 1 chance to start Allen, and starting him week 1 would look like they are rushing it, IMO.

Well guys, I think we should just pack it in for this season.... lol. Kidding, of course. Let’s see what they look like when they game plan. Remember they are not scheming to cover weaknesses, and they are rotating guys on the line around like crazy. Groy played 3 positions hat first half. Not quite sure you can even scheme to cover all the weaknesses on this o line though.
