McCabe is out of his damn mind if he thinks he’s worth anything near $4.3M. lol Buffalo’s offer is way more in line with the comparables. Hopefully he’s just shooting way high, hoping the arbitrator settles somewhere in the middle. If he was actually awarded that amount in arbitration, I believe the Sabres can just walk away (which I would 100% do. I hate losing assets for nothing but He’s just not worth that type of money) edit - nope. Just looked. The walk away number is $4.397, so he’s just under it.

https://www.tsn.ca/ltir-a-lingering-issue-in-cba-negotiations-1.1345265 LTIR a lingering issue in CBA negotiations At least the leafs are using the LTIR rules to field the most competitive team they possibly can. The senators on the other hand are a disgrace. Eugene Melnyk simply should not own an NHL team. He clearly can’t afford it. The cap floor is roughly $61M this season. The senators are only paying $44(ish)M in salary this year. They aren’t even trying to be subtle about it. Literally every move they’ve made this offseason has been about saving money. Every contract they’ve acquired has a cap hit higher than the salary owed, and in some cases there’s a drastic difference. (Like Callahan, who has a $6M cap hit but the Sens will only owe him like $800k or something like that). Every deal they’ve made sent out more real $$ than they took in. And what sucks the most is that they even put the importance of saving money over not helping direct division rivals. (it’s happened at least 3-4 times in the last couple/few years) Twice this offseason alone they helped direct division rivals out of cap jams. And they didn’t even make them pay a premium to do it! The Sens did it on the cheap because it saved them money. I legitimately feel bad for Ottawa fans. Melnyk is such a joke.

I do this too. But it’s a good thing IMO. I have always said that when I can no longer get hopeful about the Bills/Sabres, that will be the day I stop following them. What’s the point in watching if you don’t have any hope, right? lol And I’d much rather be hopeful and overly optimistic at times than constantly negative. -
His arbitration hearing was today. I am guessing this was signed before the hearing? His last contract paid him like $750k so this is actually a small pay cut. Wonder what the contract dispute was over. Maybe he wanted a 1 way deal (his salary in the minors is only like $70k or something like that)?

This is the 2nd clip I’ve watched where Shady was teasing Beasley about his size. I’m sure he’s just having fun, but personally, I thought Shady came off as kind of a dick in both clips (but it’s hard to really judge without knowing what their relationship is like and how they usually interact, etc.) -
Still have yet to see any Bills coverage and I’ve been watching for about 45 mins now... but they are going back to Jets camp for the 2nd time since I started watching. I hope one day (soon) the Bills start winning and force the NFL to actually pay attention to buffalo again (like the early ‘90’s).; Edit - Finally some Bills coverage! And it’s over. 30 seconds later.

Nice story John. I really like Mitch Morse so far. I knew before he signed here that I liked his play on the field, but I had no idea what type of person he is off the field. Loved this quote - My grandmother was very big on rules #2 and 3. It’s something she (and my parents) drilled into my head at a young age. My dad had that “golden rule” taped to our refrigerator for much of my childhood. lol. They took great pride in living by those 2 rules and now that I am older it’s something I really take pride in myself.

I don’t blame them. IMO He was pretty awful and may have set that team backs years in his short time on the job. I followed him in Minnesota because he interviewed for the Sabres job and i guess he really, really wanted the job. Who knows, maybe it would have turned out different here since we were rebuilding. He reportedly wanted to start a rebuild in Minnesota but wasn’t allowed to by ownership (Leipold feels the team is a few tweaks away from contending...yikes! lol). https://thehockeynews.com/news/article/predators-paul-fenton-very-interested-in-sabres-gm-job PREDATORS’ PAUL FENTON VERY INTERESTED IN SABRES GM JOB ‘Just in case the Buffalo Sabres didn’t already know, Paul Fenton is interested in being their next GM. Very, very interested. In a business where most people tiptoe around their prospects for future employment, the Nashville Predators assistant GM has done everything but hire a sky writer and fly it over the First Niagara Center.’

I wish Peterman well and hope he’s able to carve out an NFL career for himself. It would actually make me happy if he’s able to turn things around for himself in Oakland.

I don’t remember Talley begging for money. IIRC Wasn't it TBD’s own @ChevyVanMiller who stared the GoFundMe for him? and Talley was great on the field. I am sure he has plenty to offer Edmunds in that regard. -

That’s one of the things that made me such a fan of McDermott in Carolina (starting with that 2013 defense, or really, the 2nd half of 2012). He always seemed to be developing later round + undrafted players and putting them into a position to succeed, a lot of times right away (like 2013, they had 3-5 rookies on the field at times on defense and they were the best defense in the NFL). Same with some of the lower tier free agents they’d sign. He just seemed to find ways to get the most out of his players. IMO that’s one of the marks of a good coach. Heres a good article on McDermott that 2013 Carolina defense - https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/9992021/carolina-panthers-stellar-defense-blast-past -

Anyone know why they didn’t end up working him out? I cant really find a reason. Was he too out out of shape maybe? That would be my best guess... lol

If he was taking Clomid for “fertility” like Robert Mathis in 2014, it is a pretty well known as being part of a steroid cycle and has a long history of use in sports. https://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/02/sports/baseball/02roberts.html Im not sure he wins his appeal no matter what. I believe appeals process is more for turning over false positive tests. The NFL doesn’t really care why you took a banned substance. They say it’s the players responsibility to check the medications they take have no banned substances before they take them. Plus, it’s not like guys who get busted for PED’s usually straight up admit it. They usually have an excuse. So I can see why the NFL has a zero tolerance policy.

The deal doesn’t kick in until next year, but they’re going to Have To do something... They still have to sign Point this offseason. How much he gets will determine a lot. They probably have to make a move this year, but definitely by next year for sure. https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/lightning looking at 2020, they have $14M in cap space (but that doesn’t include Brayden Point extension, so that number will definitely be smaller), but that’s with only 13 players on their NHL roster (14 if you count Point). They need 21. Plus they have some good RFA’s that will need deals in 2020. - Cernak - Cirelli - Sergachev The likeliest trade candidates (Palat, Gourd, Johnson) all have NTC’s and took more team friendly deals to stay in Tampa (no tax, cup contender). Ill definitely be interested to see what they do. Go get Point somehow, Botterill! lol
