  1. https://www.espn.com/tennis/story/_/id/28461503/jessica-pegula-pulls-upset-meet-serena-williams-auckland-final Wow! Pretty cool, congrats Jesse!
  2. They can deny everything but a promotion to head coach. Everything else is considered a lateral move, even if they tried to tack on an “assistant (to the) head coach” title. Now, if Daboll came to them and said he wanted to leave, they may still allow it. But I can’t see him doing that. McDaniels would likely call plays, so it would kind of be like taking a demotion. Plus, he’d get more credit for the offense in Buffalo (with a defensive minded head coach) vs Cleveland (with an offensive minded head coach).
  3. I’m still hoping we get to keep Daboll. I really want continuity for Josh and the offense. And sure, a new OC May boost Josh’s development. But it also may hinder it. We don’t know. What i do know is that he is developing right now under Brian Daboll. He took a pretty nice step forward this year, and I’d prefer not to mess with what seems to be working. If it happens, it happens. But I’m definitely not rooting for it to happen. Personally, I think Daboll is nuts if he takes the Browns job, and I don’t really know if he’s ready for it either. I think they need a veteran coach. I thought McCarthy or Rivera would have been perfect for them. I’m hoping McDaniels goes there now, just to disrupt the Patriots as much as possible.
  4. I love this hire! I think this is an upgrade over what they had, too.
  5. https://www.giants.com/video/ I actually thought his opening press conference was pretty impressive. I liked it better than Rhule’s (not that opening press conferences mean anything). I just felt like he was more authentic, and I can see players buying in to his message.
  6. I’m all for continuity. Obviously I want to see upgrades at positions of need, but otherwise I’d be happy to see some continuity for a change. That’s been pretty rare for the Bills over the last 2 decades.
  7. I Agree it sounds rehearsed. I had the same thought myself. Listen to his opening press conference (posted earlier in the thread), then watch this interview - A lot of the same lines. Same delivery/tone of voice etc. Also agree about the players. I think he’s going to need to have a lot of young players. I could see Carolina tearing it down and collecting a bunch of draft picks. Lots of young players, kind of like Seattle and Carrol. His message works for a bit, especially with the young guys. Then wears out. Maybe he was just nervous though and rehearsed too much. I do like his message, as you said.
  8. I posted this link in the other Rhule thread and made a similar comment. So it wasn’t just me then, this guy definitely sounds like a preacher. Watch his entire opening speech. Watch the first 15mins of the press conference. It’s wild. They have a DJ, emcee, the owner walks up to the podium to a song he picked himself. They play a Matt Rhule hype video. Then Rhule gives his sermon.. I can see where this guy’s message might wear out eventually. I’ve watched a number of superset interviews where he repeated the same exact lines in every interview, word for word.
  9. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/01/06/nfl-wild-card-tom-brady-fmia-peter-king/ Interesting read. Kraft definitely wants Brady back, and if now he wants him to retire. I thought Brady wanted to come back after reading this quote - But then I read this - I still think Brady most likely wants to be back in New England. But we will see soon enough. Not as sure about Belichick though.
  10. https://hokiesports.com/news/2020/1/8/football-fuente-adds-nfl-coaching-veteran-bill-teerlinck-as-techs-defensive-line-coach.aspx He has a history with the head coach. Found this interesting though: So, he’s moving from the NFL to college to be a co-defensive line coach?
  11. This introductory press conference is wild. They have a DJ playing music. They out together a hype video for Rhule. The owner walks up to the podium to his own hand picked music track. And that’s as far as I got so far... still like 30 mins to go. lol edit - so I’m about half way through watching this. I’m curious what other people think of Rhule’s opening speech? Am I the only one that thinks he sounds like a preacher, or a politician or something? I like what I’ve read about him though. Interesting hire for sure. Tepper is gushing over this guy. edit again - thought he did better during the Q&A.
  12. I like this. He’s going to focus on punting and kicking off. Kid has a huge leg. I’m suited to see how he looks after an offseason focusing strictly on punting.
  13. I had a feeling that his firing was alcohol related. There were signs IMO.
  14. Glad to see him up, but now they’re right back to having 8 defenseman. (though Bogo can stay in the press box the rest of the season for all I care)
  15. I ageee. That’s a pet peeve of mine too. I called them out on it last year when they were running a 50% off sale that did NOT say anywhere that it was Only for new customers. I talked to a few athletic employees about that one (I notice they’ve since changed the way they word their tweets, adding in “new customers only”. I’m sure a lot of people complained) and said similar things to you - you shouldn’t treat new customers better than your loyal existing customers. The cable company may get away with that ****, but they have a bit of a monopoly. The athletic definitely doesn’t have a monopoly on sports writing. You can send yourself a gift subscription though, just FYI. It’s not quite as good as some of the deals they offer, but at least you get 15-20% off.
  16. And Tim Murray gave up a fortune right after this incident. Kane’s teammates throw his clothes in the shower. Kane then decides to have season ending surgery (he confirms this incident is what made him decide to do it then) during the Jets first legit playoff push since moving to Winnipeg (nor saying I blame Kane for having the surgery). Everyone in the world knew Winnipeg had to trade him and yet Murray still paid more than full price. I remember a quote from Jim Benning (supposedly the only other team in on Kane at the time), saying that he made a reasonable offer but as soon as he heard what Buffalo was offering he immediately pulled out of the trade. He said he wasn’t willing to discuss trading the caliber of players Buffalo was.
  17. Whoa! Preds were definitely struggling so I gues it’s not that surprising, but I still think Lavy is one of the better coaches in the NHL. David Poile’s usually not which to fire coaches. He must be pretty pissed.
  18. I would love to see the Bills go after AJ Green, and it doesn’t sound like such a sure thing that he will finish his career as a Bengal anymore (at least from what I’ve read. I guess there’s some hard feelings on both sides about this past season). I’ve wanted him for years. He would fit McDermott's culture perfectly. I can’t think of another veteran #1 WR (who might be available) that would fit in the locker room better than Green would. The Bills have the cap space. I know his injury history but still think it would be worth the risk. He’s a true game changer when he’s on the field. I feel like he could really open up this offense.
  19. That’s great to see. This is the Mittelstadt that had draft analysts calling him one of the top 3 prospects not playing in the NHL a couple years ago. He looks to be regaining some confidence, but I hope they leave him down in Rochester for a while yet. Make 100% sure he’s ready before you call him back up. I’m even fine with it if they leave him down there all season and son’t give him another shot at the Sabres roster until next year in camp.
  20. He definitely improved this season, and I have a lot of hope that he will make another jump next season. But only time will tell... https://www.buffalobills.com/news/why-josh-allen-is-anxious-to-get-back-to-work-in-preparation-for-the-2020-season It was only his 2nd season (and he didn’t really even start a full season’s worth of games until part way thru this season). He was pretty raw coming out of the draft too. I am pretty damn happy with the way he’s developed so far. Obviously there’s still plenty of work to be done, but it was never going to happen overnight. All I want is steady growth and he definitely seems to be trending in the right direction.
  21. Canada won gold today. Cozens scored a goal. He had himself a nice world juniors tourney. Excited about his future!
  22. I think Brady wants to win too much to just go to free agency and take the biggest deal he can find. I don’t see many teams that could be contenders next year, with a bunch of cap space and a need at QB. Maybe Tennessee? Brady and Vrabel are good friends. Titans have a good defense, good o-line and some skill on offense. But will they want to dump Tannehill? For Brady, I would. But who knows. Maybe Dallas if they decided to dump Dak, but that seems somewhat short sighted. With Jerry though, who knows. Dallas probably has enough talent to win a SB with a good enough coach. Maybe Indy? Who else? Are the Chargers legit SB contenders with Brady? I could definitely see them having interest, but I don’t know if Brady would view them as a contender. From an athletic article: https://theathletic.com/1510849/2020/01/05/tom-brady-future-patriots/ I cant see Brady going to Miami, Cincy, Denver (they’re sticking with lock anyway), Oakland or Tampa. Probably not Carolina either. There could be some surprise teams with interest though. Imagine the publicity boost to your team if you landed atom Brady in free agency... What I think it’ll all come down to: Does Belichick feel he has a better chance to win by spreading out the money that would be spent on Brady and going with Stidham? Or does he view paying Brady as his best chance? And will Brady decide he’s best off taking s little less to stay in New England? I can’t see Brady’s decision being driven by money alone. He’s too fierce a competitor to go to a rebuilding team just for 1 last pay day.
