It’s not asking the government babysit. It’s having a coherent national plan and coordinating resources and responses for all of our states (some of this stuff needs to be done on a federal level) + putting out just the factual information and not constantly misleading the nation with inaccurate statements that have to be immediately corrected by the experts (it’s dangerous). I don’t think it’s too much to ask not to be constantly misled and lied to by them. When has that ever happened before in a situation like this?

If I find an English version of this video I will update this post. But this video is still a great demonstration why it’s important to use proper hand washing technique. -
Yes, 100% I would. They’ve done so much good for this team. They don’t deserve to be fired for a swing and a miss on 1 player. And you can totally see why they took a chance on Allen. Every tool is there, he has a high ceiling, his work ethic is top notch, he’s very driven to improve, he’s smart, ultra competitive and plays the game very tough. If Allen doesn’t work out, I would feel pretty confident that they would learn from it and apply it to the next QB they scout/draft.

Agree. Doctors and nurses are short on masks already. Production should have been ramped up many weeks ago. They issued dire warnings to us in February to drastically ramp up production. I believe it is now. A request was put in to ramp up production last week, so hopefully it’s happening quickly now. But those masks still haven’t made it into the hands of our first responders on the front lines. Random thought on this: I can remember during things like the SARS and MERS outbreaks, seeing photos and videos from crowded places in China (subways, markets, etc etc) and nearly everyone was wearing a mask. I remember thinking, “wow that’s wild! Glad we don’t have to do that here”. But now I wonder if that might be our new reality for a while. I wonder if you are going to slowly start seeing more and more people out in public places with masks on?

This is the N.Y. State health website on coronavirus: https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/home It’s updated anytime there is new info or instructions. Here is the latest update: If you are in NYS this is a good website to bookmark. “Your local health department is your community contact for COVID-19 concerns” here is the link to contact info for every NYS local health department: https://www.nysacho.org/directory/ and here is an interactive map for Erie county: -
Wow. Having been there many times that is quite a sight. i posted some pics of different NYC tourist attractions in the other thread (I’ll post them here too). It’s so strange to see NYC streets so empty. As strange and sad and scary as it is to see, it’s also encouraging too. People are taking this thing serious in NYC. It would be a nightmare if those streets were still packed with people.

Edit: This was apparently true in China as well per WHO China Joint report linked above. I don't think co-morbid conditions can be ruled out (ex: more men than women smoke in both China and Italy or something like that) -
That’s what doctors are facing in Italy. They are having to choose which patients to treat and which to let die. It appears resources are going to those patients that they think have the best chance of being saved. Imagine the trauma/PTSD that is going to cause for those poor doctors and nurses. I can’t even imagine. PSA: If you’re mad about staying in, or bars being closed, think about what the people on the front lines of this are dealing with. (Just FYI this is not directed at you or anyone else here cripple creek)

https://www.sciencealert.com/the-new-coronavirus-isn-t-like-the-flu-but-they-have-one-big-thing-in-common No, Coronavirus Isn't 'Just Like The Flu'. Here Are The Very Important Differences A few key points: - a Chinese study showed that 41 percent of serious cases occurred among under 50s, compared with 27 percent among over 65s. "It's true that if you're older you're at greater risk, but serious cases can also happen in relatively young people with no prior conditions," said French deputy health minister Jerome Salomon. “An analysis of 45,000 confirmed cases in China, where the epidemic originated, show that the vast majority of deaths were among the elderly (14.8 percent mortality among over 80s). But another Chinese study showed that 41 percent of serious cases occurred among under 50s, compared with 27 percent among over 65s.” -Disease experts estimate that each COVID-19 sufferer infects between two to 3 others. That's a reproduction rate up to twice as high as seasonal flu, which typically infects 1.3 new people for each patient. -mortality rate of 2% would make it 20x more deadly than the flu (0.1%) -“But the true danger of coronavirus is unlikely to be the death toll. Experts say health systems could easily become overwhelmed by the number of cases requiring hospitalisation – and, often ventilation to support breathing.” - Salomon said that humans have lived with influenza for more than 100 years. “We've studied it closely," he said. "This new virus resembles the flu in terms of physical symptoms but there are huge differences." Number one is the lack of a vaccine against COVID-19, or even any treatment shown to be consistently effective. -
I saw today that HHS/ASPR is releasing a stockpile (thank god!) ————————————————————————————— Saw this on another site: [Mod Edit: the above is exactly why I started this thread and now am trying to abstract the info from the (equally important) discussion and humor I want people to be able to get info from vetted links, without worrying they are clicking on malware. If you click on a link and it asks you to install something. DO NOT PROCEED, close the window with alt-F4, if it won't close reboot your computer and check for (computer) viruses when you reboot.]

Yes, it’s certainly their choice. What sucks are the doctors and nurses that won’t have any other choice but to step in harms way to take care of them if they get sick. And the overwhelming effect it could have on florida’s healthcare systems if a bunch get sick all at once because of all the big gatherings that have happened in the state in recent days.

Quote from above link: "Millennials are not invincible. The new data show that up to one-fifth of infected people ages 20-44 have been hospitalized, including 2%-4% who required treatment in an intensive care unit."
