https://www.nap.edu/read/25771/chapter/1 Expert consultation on virus survival in relation to temperature and humidity. From about a dozen members of the Academies' Standing Committee on Emerging Infectious Diseases and 21st Century Health Threats. Translation: maybe it will die off with summer, and maybe it won't, but even if it will eventually, while it's a pandemic it may not.

COVID-19 - Facts and Information Only Topic

For context: guidelines on who who qualifies for this treatment and their thinking behind issuing this advise: -
No, she didn’t say. She just told me about the 40 new patients overnight. Then she mentioned how the nurses were not wearing masks in the hallway. My friend works on the floor below the covid floors, so she only go onto the covid floor a few times a day and hasn’t yet been asked to care for covid patients (but said she knows it’s coming). She told me a week or so ago that she ordered her own masks to wear when she has to go up to the covid floors. She ordered those black fabric charcoal filter masks you see online ($100 for 4 she said! Price gouging *** holes). Said she knows it’s not ideal (or required) but it made her feel better. I can’t blame her. This is all new to her. She normally only deals with patients coming in to see a specialist. Do you think the risk is relatively low out in the hallways then? If that’s standard procedure?

Talked to my friend today who works at a local Erie county covid hospital. They said their covid cases more than doubled overnight. When they left work at 8pm last night they had 24 cases and when they came in at 8am today there were now 64. Said they only have 130 beds for covid right now. Also said nurses are only wearing PPE when they work directly with the patients, they don’t have it on when they’re in the hallways.

I get what they were saying. I was just nitpicking. I thought it was a weird way to word it. Instead of saying “just”, I would have said the Bills “still” have 7 picks in this draft after the Diggs trade, or something like that. 7 picks is the normal amount every team starts with. So we have the normal # of picks, were just missing our 1st and have an extra 6th. We still pick at least once in every round from 2-7. So it’s still basically a full draft (Diggs is just our 1st round pick). like I said, I was just nitpicking. lol -
Yep, Just read the IG report on the our hospitals experience responding to the covid pandemic. Here’s the link: https://oig.hhs.gov/oei/reports/oei-06-20-00300.pdf There are staff shortages, overcrowding/bed shortages, PPE shortages, shortages on all sorts of other medical equipment, cleaning equipment, food, etc. I’ve read doctors and nurses in NYC saying that they are so overcrowded that have patients dying in the hallways before they can even be moved to a room. Just because they may not be totally out of 1 specific piece of medical equipment yet doesn’t mean that they won’t be soon (many of those 323 hospitals said that they anticipate running out of ventilators soon and don’t know how/where to get more) or that they aren’t facing very difficult problems from shortages in many other areas of need. NYS had to get 1000 from China to keep from running out this coming week. Other hospitals are reporting acquiring ventilators by unusual means or converting other less than ideal equipment to use as ventilators (as you mentioned) and can potentially spread covid19 (by aerosolizing it). It’s not like there’s an abundance of them or something. They’re taking drastic measures to ensure they have enough. Interview with Doctors at NY Presbyterian hospital: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/kadiagoba/ventilator-shortage-new-york-hospitals-coronavirus That part about “we got a new ventilator, let’s get somebody on it” implies that they’d have already been on it if they had more. Read this survey of 250 healthcare workers and all the shortages they’re facing: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/system-doomed-doctors-nurses-sound-nbc-news-coronavirus-survey-n1164841 NYC’s morgues are also over capacity. They had to set up something like 50+ new mobile morgues (and those are reportedly already almost at capacity too). They’re talking about soon having to temporarily bury people who died from covid in the local parks. And They say this next next week is probably going to be the toughest yet. I’m hopeful things are trending in the right direction but we have a long way to go before we are out of the woods.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001108552/article/afc-east-roster-reset-patriots-vulnerable-after-tom-bradys-exit “AFC East roster reset: Patriots vulnerable after Tom Brady's exit?” I got a laugh out of the author saying that the Bills, after the Diggs trade “have just 7 draft picks” total in this (7 round) draft... lol -
https://variety.com/2020/digital/news/hbo-free-streaming-us-launch-1234570139/ If you’ve never watched these series I’d definitely recommend checking them out. Especially The Wire (maybe the best series ever), The Sopranos & Ballers (it’s a show w/Duane “the rock” Johnson about the NFL. If you’re a sports fan you will most likely really enjoy the series. There’s even some bills related mentions).

This is from the NHL Winnipeg Jet’s head coach Paul Maurice. Felt like it was worth sharing in this thread. https://theathletic.com/1726826/2020/04/06/a-deep-dive-into-paul-maurices-first-press-conference-since-the-nhl-shut-down/ (Athletic Sub. req.) Well said. Paul Maurice is one of my favorite head coaches to listen to. You can see why him and Ralph Krueger are such good buddies.

Anyone else watching the Sabres re-broadcast? I think this is the most excited I've been to watch any of the games so far. Looking forward to tomorrow’s game even more though. That was one of the most exciting Sabres playoff games I’ve watched. I remember feeling so good about where that team was at after that game. Man I hope we have a team that good again someday (soon).
