https://nhl.nbcsports.com/2020/08/10/new-york-rangers-win-2020-nhl-draft-lottery/ Rangers get #1 overall as Dr. Who mentioned. Id have definitely preferred for it to go out west but at least Toronto didn’t win it! ? and at least LaFrienere won’t be in our division. Technically, with the teams in the bottom 7 and with Ottawa holding 2 top picks, all 3 of the top 3 picks could have ended up right in our division. So it definitely could have been worse. the NYR are going to be a really good team though. I love what their GM has done so far in their rebuild. It’s been about 10x faster than the Sabres too, but it sure helps when so many players want to live & play in NYC (and big time execs want to work there too, like John Davidson). They didn’t even have to go that hard after Panarin. They got Fox to sign there instead of going to UFA after he refused to sign elsewhere. They get good college free agents all the time (they’re basically in the running for any good college UFA they want). But Gorton has still done a phenomenal job with the rebuild. Can’t take that away from him. edit - just saw that the Leafs 1st round pick sits at #13. They sent it to Carolina this past offseason to dump Patrick Marleau’s contract. ?? Ouch.

Toronto eliminated. Columbus definitely deserved to win this series. They were the better, more motivated team. Now we just cross our fingers that Toronto doesn’t win the #1 overall pick... ?

Ok I’ll let you know. If I do I’ll give you first dibs. But I’m not sure if I’m going to sell any of it (the good stuff anyway...lol).

Btw hapless, I just wanted to say that I truly appreciate everything you’ve done in these threads. I’ve relied on you for factual info since this pandemic began. I don’t know if people appreciate all of the time that goes into all of the posts you’ve made. You dig into research papers and lay out the info for us. I know You’ve spent countless hours putting together posts for this board. For free. For all of us. Out of the goodness of your heart. So, thank you again! It really means a lot to me and I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate it! and I don’t think you talk to people like 2nd graders at all. I think you use logic and reason in your posts.

I guess my dad was actually going to buy the JBL 100’s instead of those EPI 100’s but he wanted a sealed speaker (or at least that’s the story I was told...). Doh! Those JBL 100’s were JBL’s most popular speaker EVER. So popular they recently brought them back. List price: $2000. Each. ($4000/pair) https://www.crutchfield.com/S-47vZ8Hc3cEu/p_109L100BLK/JBL-L100-Classic-Black-Grille.html The originals are still selling for like $1500+. Found an old Marantz 4 channel amp too (in the original box!). Then noticed some of the records are “quadraphonic”. I guess 4 channel music was a thing for a minute? Hey @4_kidd_4 do you have any home audio gear? If so what do you have (speakers and receiver/amp specifically). I’m speaker shopping at the moment.

They’re from the 1970’s. https://www.humanspeakers.com/e/epi100.htm Im not sure if it’s the woofer. I just didn’t think the woofer on the one speaker sounded right. Could be a capacitor that dried out or something else. I actually found the original replacement woofers for it for $25. I may do it just for fun (if that’s what it ends up being. Found 2 sets actually. I can only attach one pic in this post. It won’t let me attach the other picture no matter how small I make it. I tried to post it in a seperate post but couldn’t do that either. So anyway, the other one is the EPI 100 I posted the link to. The one below is a “Criterion 4x”. I think it was the house brand of an old electronics store called Lafayette’s. https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-Catalogs/Consumer/Lafayette-1976-Catalog.pdf

Just found some old best,R’s records cleaning my attic. Actually found about 200 (+/-) records total, and an old technics turntable. Found some old EPI100 speakers too but it sounds like they need a new woofer (not worth it). Anyone here into home audio?

First big upset - Montreal eliminated Pittsburgh from the play-in round. Montreal will advance to the playoffs. Coyotes eliminated the Predators too. Leafs are facing elimination tonight (8pm EST). I’m torn because I’d lie to see them eliminated but I don’t want them getting the 1st overall pick. That would be a nightmare. Adding LaFreniere to Marner, Matthews, Tavares, Morgan Rielly, Nylander... ugh.

Hey @Hapless Bills Fan did you see this study yet? https://www.thelancet.com/journals/eclinm/article/PIIS2589-5370(20)30228-5/fulltext Cerebral Micro-Structural Changes in COVID-19 Patients – An MRI-based 3-month Follow-up Study Looks like it was a follow-up study done 3 months after the patient got covid. Ages: It looks like they were not elderly patients. bit over my head here... lol

The first rapid test was used because he was visiting trump. Anyone who visits Trump has to take that rapid covid test before they visit. It’s part of their protocol. I don’t know for sure why they use that test for people visiting the president but I would guess that they use the rapid antigen test because PCR tests are sent to a lab and it takes longer to get results, which would complicate things. Some details on what happened: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/06/us/mike-dewine-coronavirus.html

It doesn’t really diminish my confidence in the widespread daily testing being done with the general public. The way I understand it is the rapid antigen tests (the one that produced a false positive) aren’t as accurate as the PCR tests. But as far as I know, I don’t think those rapid tests are that widely used in the general public. When the general public is tested for covid, I believe it’s a RT-PCR test the vast majority of the time (which is why you hear of people having to wait to get their test results vs getting them instantly like the tests used for people visiting the president). https://www.eamc.org/news-and-media/a-look-at-the-three-most-common-types-of-covid-19-tests ‘A Look at the Three Most Common Types of COVID-19 Tests’ With PCR tests (or I believe it’s a reverse transcription PCR test in the case of covid), I believe it’s is much more difficult to get a false positive simply due to the nature of the test (the viral RNA has to be there for a reaction to happen). Info on PCR testing for covid: https://discoverysedge.mayo.edu/2020/03/27/the-science-behind-the-test-for-the-covid-19-virus/ I believe @Hapless Bills Fan has addressed this topic once before. I don’t want to post incorrect info so I’ll let hapless answer (and possibly correct me....lol).

Sean: “back up or mask up”

I was thinking the same thing! Who’s going to do it...? Split the profits? ? -
Selfishly, I hope Tre plays. But I won’t hold it against any player that opts out this season. Even someone crucial like Josh Allen. Many of us have had to make tough decisions because of this virus. I know I certainly have. Tre opting out would leave quite a hole to fill, but I have faith in McDermott when it comes to his defense. I’m confident that he’d find a way to still field a good secondary + defense.

I’ve been curious about that 15+ minute thing myself. I feel like there’s definitely been examples of people who got covid without 15+ minutes of exposure, but I think the numbers are much lower than for longer exposures. So I’m thinking maybe it comes down to the probabilities? Infection = Exposure to virus x Time. (as hapless has mentioned) You need to receive an infectious dose of the virus (I’ve read that it could be as little as 1000 virus particles for covid, which may sound like a lot but a single cough/sneeze from a covid infected person cans release as many as 200 MILLION virus particles). The more time you spend with someone infected, the greater the chances you receive that infectious dose. The chances of receiving that infectious dose with a quick contact are low (unless they cough/sneeze in your face or something). I also wonder if the 15+ minute exposure time has to do in part with setting an attainable goal for contact tracing? I think it would be almost impossible to trace every contact someone had, especially with case counts as high as they are in some places. How would you even contact random people they may have come into contact with anyway? You’d have to have some type of contact tracing/tracking programs on phones (which I think Apple may have been working on? I remember reading something about that in an update for my iPad but I don’t know if it was ever implemented). Found this on the CDC site:
