  1. matt Cassel beat him out for the backup job. Whaley then cut him. They bring Cassel back on a cheaper deal, probably because Rex complained. Cassel goes back to the 2, then Whaley trades him. Then you have week 17 of last year. Why would you not just play Jones in that game? They did everything they could and more to force EJ. It didn't work. No reason to feel bad.

cassel did not beat him out. He was acquired to be the starter.EJ was supposed to ride the pine, but was forced into playing before he was ready. Week 17 was his last game day audition,to see if he had progressed enough to warrant a back-up role on a new contract. He failed. That's that. Good Luck to him tho.Always a class act
  2. Everybody has to come to EJ's defense here like the guy has it so bad. He was over drafted by about 4 rounds. Therefore got all kinds of publicity and also got paid more then he deserved. EJ Got handed job after job here without ever earning any of them. He was out played by every QB that we have ever had on our roster, yet still never was cut. Had players released undermining our depth chart, just to keep him on our gameday Roster. Has had excuse after excuse made for him since day 1. Has high school level footwork and probably the worst accuracy I have ever seen for an NFL QB (not named Tebow). And through out all of this, nobody has ever been able to say anything bad about him without the "nice guy" police jumping in.

EJ is probably a good guy. It's funny how that's just a given in any one of these conversations, Eventhough I seriously doubt anyone on here actually knows him or could know that for sure. Nobody wanted him to fail. We are all diehard bills fans, everyone on here hoped he would be great. The guy was given more opportunities then his skill set deserved, due to complete incompetence from our front office. I really don't understand why we are supposed to feel bad for him? The guy should have been taken in the 4th or 5th round and had the investment been in line with the performance...would have probably been let go long ago. The way I see it, the guy got more then he could have asked for based on his ability. I don't feel bad for a guy that got paid millions of dollars despite never improving. That is soley on him. I feel bad for the fans that were sold a bill of goods and had to sit through wasted time and forced attempts to get this guy on the gameday roster.

wasn't EJ forced into action due to injury? Also,I'm not sure our roster was undermined by keeping him, hoping he developed,as he was on his rookie contract
  3. There is a wiiiiiiiiiiiide gap between "good" and "better than Watkins". Bryant is somewhere in the middle of that gap. He is also addicted to pot. Major risk.

according to him,he's moved away from LA to keep away from his pot head buddies, and hasn't smoked pot in 8 months. On a side note, pot is non-addictive. There is no drug they give you to ween yourself, ala heroin, etc. It doesn't make you Ill to go without. We all know it's an illegal substance in the eyes of the nfl,but times they are a changing

It sucks but seems like TC is where we see a lot of the big injuries to start with. Get all excited about TC starting and next thing you know we have lost a starter for a month or 2, sometimes the whole year. It happens to every team I know, but that's why depth is sooooo very important.

Hopefully we can make it through TC without any big or major injuries and get off to a good start to the season.

I think we're overdue for a fair shake from the injury Gods lol
  5. .....although not an elite back, I think FredEx played his cards wisely and prolonged his career due to "low mileage" while still being effective gamer..............

Yes he did,and he averaged more than 10 games a year too...I'd have to assume Shady can continue without any durability issues. He's proven it in his career. Now,being pulled in the fourth, for whatever reason is not an indictment on his health, rather a coaches decision based on situation. I'm not worried about his health.Or his availability /durability to exceed ten games a season.just my opinion of course
  6. I like him alot. Good speed, good hands, good size. However, the year long suspension has to have some people in a tizzy. Regardless, with the Steelers losing Marcus Wheaton probably dictates his need at position for Pitt,so I can't see them trading him.

  7.

....it's a helluva grind.......Shaun Alexander, Larry Johnson, Jamal Anderson, etc all took a beating........Sanders was smart and got out after 10 years....look at the great Earl Campbell, barely shuffling along at age 61..........

yeah, they get pretty "punch drunk" after a while. It's a brutal position to play,no doubt. Somehow tho,the great ones manage to persevere by avoiding big hits. Some great backs have played into their 30's while being heavily involved in their respected offenses. I think Shady is on that level
  8. Neither do linemen LBs DBs.....

oh,its common practice to pull your Lb's and DBs early in the fourth when we either are way up,or way down on the scoreboard? Id disagree with that. Thats normally reserved for skill players, like QB,RB,Etc.But anyway, whats the point youre trying to make? The discussion arose concerning RB....and particularly Shady's durability past 10 games
  9. Kouandjio has actually graded out well the last couple years playing RT in preseason and in games. He is so much better than his rookie year on the right side.

yeah, but he can't withstand that for a whole season since his left knee is shot, and he can't push off to pass block. That's why he did better at LT
  10. The guy is so bad.

How does this coaching staff sit there and watch tape for weeks, then even try to bring back Mills??

Say what you will, but we did have the best rushing attack in the league. At least we didn't downgrade. And for the money we don't have, and a weak class coming out,we could've done much worse...
  11. Being from the Air Force Academy wouldn't he have to fulfill an obligation to them before being allowed to play in the NFL ?

I think so,depending on his obligation. I think some see a brief summer stint, like the reserves, and others are a bit more. I could be wrong as I'm not an alum of the services, but I seem to recall different lengths of obligations
  12.

This is shaping up to be one slow-ass defense.

$4.5M/year is starter money. Lo plays the SLB, Preston in middle, and Ragland at Will? Doesn't make alot of sense. Maybe we'll add a speedy WLB, but then who rides the pine? probably Preston.

I still don't know what D McD is trying to build.

I don't know his plans for this D, but speed should and will be addressed. I see Zo being used in obvious blitzing downs and certain sub-packages. But I'm not sold that he's automatically our starting Sam,or any other lb'er. I think it's either draft a Wlb,and put P Brown in the middle, with Rags at sam,or roll with Brown at Weak,Rags in the middle, and find a Sam in the draft.Zo comes off the bench in certain situations. Just my take on it anyway..
  13. he is stupid for hurting his career and his potential for a little drups and pot. He is stupid for lying to the team and the fans about treatment processes which he had no plan to fulfill. He is no longer a young man looking to find his way. He is the highest paid player (of close to it) and has failed to live to his commitment thus hurting his team, teammates and all the fans. Even you suggest only one more chance, our only disagreement is as far as I am concerned he had his last chance.

he has been playing beside the most committed player on the team for a few years and that had no effect. By the time he grows up it will be time to retire. We let Gilmore go and he came to work. Dareus is a cancer.

He's a kid who smokes pot. And it cost him, more importantly the team and the fans. That's what he did. He is NOT a cancer
  14.

I see his as sub package guy. No way is he an every down linebacker, but equally I agree about size for DE. But given base Ds are only played a portion of the time, I see plenty of chances in sub packages to be a good situational player.

alot of versatility so far. I can't wait to see how the peices fit!
