The Raiders should hire Doug Whaley and get this thing rolling!
-
Isn't that just the grade for week 4 alone?
-
I don't think what he said was entirely inaccurate. They did try to draw them offsides. What you said is also true from what Tyrod and Opie's said. But you could tell they were trying to draw them off as well. If they got that penalty they would be at the half yard line and likely went for it, or at the very least do the same thing and see if the defense was in a look they liked on their next call from shorter distance.
It ultimately means nothing. It's a weird thing to complain about because it had no possibility of failing. It doesn't signify anything about our coaching staff or success moving forward.
-
I'm more weirded out he called her a "female." Like he's talking about a dog. Bad flirting Cam.
-
What is Rosenthal's grading method? I'm just curious.
-
Fake news from Rodak as usual. He loves injecting drama and removing context.
It was McDermott saying every position is a competition to keep everyone motivated. Move along.
You think he says anything about a competition if the question is about Kyle Williams? It clearly meant something. It wasn't just a throwaway line.
-
He isn't someone that's immovable, teams will be looking to make offers if they make him available, but they can't afford it under the cap this year
When we drafted him I thought he could be an immovable DT but this isn't what I had in mind
-
People still think this guy is good? I want him off the team yesterday and I'm sure McDermott does too, but we can't until next year.
-
Nah. Can't be.
I had all the experts on here tell me that Watson's 49 mph heater wasn't fast enough to be successful in the NFL.
Wait a few weeks before you puff your chest. I believe his ball placement issues will continue to be a problem and defenses will have better game plans to stop him moving forward. In the next 3 games he faces Kansas City and Seattle (and Cleveland in between). If he plays decently against those defenses that will be more impressive.
-
Or it just is the 19%-25% chance that they will lose coming true and has nothing to do with that.
Yup. It's confirmation bias at work. People only notice the trap games when the favored team loses. When they win the 80% of the time they're supposed to no one mentions it. Trap games are for the fans, the players don't see it that way.

Odell Beckham, Jr. has only played in three games through the first four weeks of the season, but leads the NFL in dropped passes with four.
https://football.realgm.com/wiretap/39342/Odell-Beckham-Marqise-Lee-Lead-NFL-In-Dropped-Passes
just sayin....
I have personally watched Amari Cooper drop more than 4 passes this year. I don't trust the "drops" stat. Every year it doesn't match up with what I see in the games.
They say Zay has 1 drop this year? That's why drops aren't an official stat...
Wow that's just plain wrong. Even ignoring the Carolina game he has had a few drops. Who is tracking this stuff??
-
-We have played the 14th hardest schedule so far, and we have the 3rd easiest schedule remaining.
-We have higher playoff odds than the Patriots. But they've played the hardest schedule so far, and have the 8th easiest schedule remaining.
-Our defense is #1 but it's the worst #1 defense after 4 weeks of all time.
-Our pass offense is 11th, our rush offense is 25th. Who saw that coming?
-Tyrod Taylor is 9th in QB DVOA.
-Jacksonville has the best pass defense and the worst run defense. Amazing.
-EJ Gaines is 4th overall in CB success rate (don't know what Tre White is at, they mentioned Gaines's offhand in that article but the rest of the stat can only be seen by subscribers)
-
Im convinced you could pull me up on stage at a production of The Sound of Music and tell me to play one of the Von Trapp kids, and I could do a fake my way through the part of Leisl better than Gilmore did approximating a Patriots defensive back Sunday.
-
Huh? They have one win against the Browns. This is just classic Bills fan mentality, we're scared of our own shadows. We should beat the Bengals and it won't be that impressive if we do. A win any team thinking playoffs needs to have. I think it will be a low-scoring ugly kind of game but those are the games are team is built to win. We should be able to have our way with their offense.
-
Ah of course we trailed by 6 in Carolina.
Oh yeah, I could have sworn I saw a stat saying we have never trailed by more than 3.
To a degree...
What many want to see is Tyrod throw the team on his back down 2 scores an win a game. Until that happens you will see the same comments about him,
He did it last year against Miami. If Hauschka was here we would have won that game even with Rex as coach.
Tyrod is 74% on passes over the middle. The league average is 55%. That was from a tweet by Astrobot.
Dennison's run scheme is worse than Roman's by a country mile, but his pass schemes are better by a country mile. It's a game of OC whack-a-mole.
-
Worth pointing out we haven't trailed by more than 3 points at any point this season. All our games are close and he's making clutch 3rd down plays to keep drives alive. This is what many wanted to see to say he had taken a step.
-
We are tied for 2nd in the power rankings that matter:
-
I don't think Tyrod is always "escaping phantom pressure." Like at the scramble in his own end zone (Q2 14:49) it looks to me like he moves to the right to get a clear throwing lane to Clay, but the LDE gets around Mills before he can throw it.
The throw to Clay while taking the hit was simply ridiculous. Wow what a big time throw.
Awesome thread as usual. I look forward to these every week.
Looks to me like Clay had a slight step, but that for some reason he stopped and dove instead of running through the reception
Deep throws are more about timing than throwing a perfect dime. The receiver has to adjust right and the chemistry isn't even close to there yet for Tyrod and K. Clay.

It's funny because I actually think he believes it. He knows that if he goes on record and says it he will be challenged to defend it. Additionally, credibility will be lost because it's an asinine opinion. The proverbial rock and a hard place.
That's why I asked him if it physically hurt. I've been there, it's not fun admitting an opinion you've strongly defended was just plain wrong.
-
FWIW Philly Brown was starting for the Panthers during their Super Bowl run. He's a JAG but he's not awful or anything. I don't know that the drop off from Matthews to him is all that big.
-
TT is a better game manager. Though many here think they KNOW what the future is for EJ as if the books been written.
I read a lot of that and took some grief about Goff as well.
Surprise, Surprise Goff looks like he might have something.
As did, EJ Sunday.
Tyrod, not so much. Am I happy for the win? You bet!!!!
Did I see anything this week to think TT hasn't reached his ceiling?
Nope
Did this physically hurt you to write?
-
I blame Russ Brandon
-
No, that's how someone with an agenda would read what I wrote.
What I said is that he played very well while he was here, but he is not playing well in NE. I'm sure scheme has something to do with it, but folks throw out the idea that he's not a zone corner as though it's true. It's not.
Jim Schwartz's scheme was a zone scheme, though he did mix in some Cover 1 and 0 on the relatively rare occasions that they sent pressure.
In fact, in Gilmore's 2 best games as a pro (IMO)--Denver and Green Bay in 2014, the teams played almost exclusively in Cover-3 looks.
Remember, if we want to talk opinions, I'm happy to give you mine, but if we're debating facts, we don't get to decide which ones to ignore. For example: Gilmore finished 3rd in the NFL in pass breakups in 2015, and 10th in passer rating allowed. He cannot by definition be a one-year wonder in 2014 if his performance was even better in 2015. Statements like that are why it's so very difficult to take some people's opinions seriously--it's not grounded in reality. Now, people can get upset that he had horrific games against the Jets and Patriots in 2016, and that's justified. What we can't do--provided we want to be taken seriously--is ignore the fact that the guy allowed 2 TDs all season, and surrendered a passer rating below 70 (which was better than Patrick Peterson and nearly identical to Richard Sherman). Let's remember that the guy made the pro bowl in 2016.
Yes, he played very well when he was here. No, he is not playing anywhere near good football right now, and I am quite pleased with that.
Where you are getting confused is that we've seen his limitations at times in Buffalo, and now they are presenting themselves on a much larger scale. Does that mean he didn't play well here? No. What it means is that he has specific limitations, and that other teams are now finding ways to take advantage of them. Is that because his new coach is still finding ways to minimize what he doesn't do well and maximize what he does? Maybe. Is it because he's playing in a different scheme? Sure, that's probably part of it. Is it because he got his payday and is slacking now? Who knows? (I sure hope so...that'd be pleasantly ironic for NE to get a guy that loafs after a big contract).
What I'm not going to do is ignore what happened on the field for 5 years. Many players perform better or worse with a change in venue...Gilmore is not some new case study in what happens when guys move via FA--remember Nnamdi Asomugha? Best corner in football when he was with Oakland. Moved to Philly and promptly washed out of the league. Darrelle Revis had an island in NJ, but he went to Tampa and couldn't cover worth a dime.
I think I've said my piece on this well enough; parse away if you so choose.
I'm not one to ignore stats so I'll give you credit for 2015. But I will point out he missed the final 4 games of that year. One stat I would be very interested in seeing is Gilmore's YAC allowed. I think that is an underrated stat for corners and I bet he would rank low in it (I know he is way underperforming Tre White in that stat so far this season), but it isn't tracked anywhere that doesn't cost money. If anyone happens to have a subscription to PFF I would be curious to know where he ranked because IMO poor tackling was his biggest weakness. Every corner will give up some passes these days so good tackling counts more than ever. That's why I had no interest bringing him back at his contract. I never thought he was terrible, just pretty good. The way some people talked he was a consistent top 10 CB and I never saw him that way.

And Tyrod Taylor's league leading time to throw for the last two seasons doesn't support his hesistancy to throw the football?
That stat correlates very strongly with mobile QBs. That shouldn't be a surprise.
Cam Newton under fire for comment toward female reporter

Imagine if every football player talked to every female reporter like that. The NFL is a business and they rely on women being fans too. The outrage is definitely overblown, people like being angry about something, but they can't just let it go. And now Cam loses an endorsement. Private businesses don't have time for controversy, it's just easier to cut him loose.
