Possible trade option - give our 1st plus Hughes for Hunter. Restructure his contract to give him more money over the full term while decreasing his cap hit this year. I think we could manage it.

Dawuane Smoot is one of the guys I'd target.
He already re-signed with the Jags.

I'll be honest, if the Bills weren't even willing to spend $13 million a year on Ngakoue, I doubt they're in the market for an upper tier pass rusher. You're not gonna beat that deal.
-
Somehow Agholor and Ngakoue got the same contract. I don't know what the Pats were thinking with this one.

I would rather just draft a RB with speed. I guess if they want like a 6th rounder and Singletary I'd be okay with it.

I don't see a thread to track general free agency news. Thought this would be useful.
Part of me still hates Gronk for that dirty hit on White a couple years ago. But he would be a really nice addition for a year.

In that case kick returner is a big need. We don't know for sure if McKenzie will be back, and even if he is I still don't trust him to field kicks. Maybe we'll try to fill that position in the draft. I still really like Rondale Moore as a 2nd round target.

I guess he wants to try twice a year:

maybe they could grab a Cooks and Clowney still. Not all this
I would be happy with Clowney on a 1 year deal. That would give us the ability to draft a raw pass rusher like Paye or Rousseau or Ossai at #30 without forcing them into the starting lineup too early.
-
Another point about this signing that I haven't seen brought up - it used to be an accepted fact that o-lines needed time to gel together. These days o-lines seemingly change every year. But an underrated part of this re-signing is 4 of our starters from last year will be playing together in the same positions again. That chemistry matters. The only wildcard is whether Boettger or Ford end up in the 5th spot.
People forget that adding players isn't the only way to improve the team. Players naturally getting better and having another year in the same scheme with the same teammates can make a huge difference.

At this point I’m of the opinion that his end of year press conference was a giant smokescreen. So now I’m expecting a new RB and Dawson Knox at TE1
I feel like his comment about the TEs was more about sending Knox a message. You've been here two years and haven't given us what we need at the position, so really focus this offseason and become the difference maker that we thought we drafted.

I agree... although I don't think Bell is a fit for the way this line blocks either which is why I still have a question mark about what their vision is for this run game. Other than "be better than this".
I don't think they care too much about the run game. I think it's about getting the RBs involved in the pass game. Allen needs more options than just the WRs. In that context Bell would have made sense. I would really love the Bills to draft Gainwell in the 2nd and trade Singletary for a late round pick. Cut our losses and get a legitimate explosive back who can catch the ball.

Beane told us he thought the blocking was an issue at times but his actions suggest he can't think it was that bad.
He said that just a couple months after trying to sign Leveon Bell. No doubt he is looking to upgrade the RBs.

How does he make the team better? That's going to take some cap manipulation.
The best thing we could have done this offseason is keep last year's team as intact as possible while making upgrades at our two biggest weaknesses, namely offensive speed and pass rush.
We can draft offensive speed and probably still make room to sign one of the available free agent pass rushers with a couple restructures and cuts. I expect that Beane knows this and will make it a priority.
If we upgrade on those two weaknesses, and hopefully at least a couple of our young players take a big step this year, we are ready to compete for the Super Bowl. Especially with the Chiefs losing starters, the gap has closed.

we know Beane wasn’t thrilled with the running game, so where are we going to address that?
Don't listen to what Beane says, watch what he does. He tried to sign Leveon Bell this past season. He knows the RB room needs an upgrade. I trust him to find one.

For a team that couldn’t run the ball I don’t see how bringing back our entire offensive line is a good thing.
Because we had very good pass protection and that matters a lot more. We weren't ever going to build an offensive line capable of turning Singletary or Moss into an RB1. If the Bills want to improve the running game they'll draft a RB with speed and vision.

Translation:
"Please somebody/anybody make us an offer before we have to release him."
The report is that they want a 3rd or 4th rounder for him but I highly doubt anyone will give up that much. I would be comfortable giving up our 5th.
