  1. Look at Kenneth Grant at just 4.3%... I know it's very early but that was the concern for him coming out, we know he can plug gaps and stuff the run but can he get after the QB? I was happy Miami made that mistake before we had a chance to.
  2. Bryan Cook abandoning his zone is the reason Kincaid was high school wide open on the infamous 4th down in the AFCCG. You know how their coaches made up for it? With an awesome play call. Replacement level safety is a flaw but not a fatal one. I expect a great defense this year even if Hamlin starts every game (and I don't think he will). That should be the expectation of the entire fanbase given the coaching staff and the investments made this offseason. No defense in the league is starting above average players at every position.
  3. KC started Bryan Cook at safety the past two years. He's no better than Hamlin. He has given up a 110.5 passer rating in coverage since becoming a starter. They've had a great defense in spite of that. Safety is not going to be the problem with the defense this year. If there is one, it will be coaching/play calling like it was for much of last year. Or maybe CB2. A defense heavy coaching staff needs to be able to make up for replacement level safety play. If KC can do it, so can we. I don't want that to become the excuse if the defense disappoints yet again this season.
  4. Hamlin is a replacement level player, nothing more, nothing less. Every team has replacement level players at the bottom of their roster. It is better than having a player who is a complete liability, and it's just the safety position so not a huge deal. Seems like Bishop has won the job which is great but if we have to go back to Hamlin for any reason we'll manage.
  5. The agony over Jimmy Ciarlo is crazy to me. The guy was still un-signed by any team as recently as last month. I get he was featured on Hard Knocks and was a fun story, but he has no business being on the field as a LB so it came down to special teams. Easy player to get through waivers too.
  6. Good sign for Kendrick Green or Chase Lundt.
  7. Now Sal is saying he is going to be on the practice squad: That makes more sense.
  8. It was already reported that he's signing to the 53 man roster.
  9. Especially when that 3rd round pick is the one we got from KC when we traded down in the 1st round. Just a really bad look all around. Sorry to always be this guy but last year was a great draft for WRs and the 3rd round was a great spot to double dip. Oh well.
  10. Sanders reportedly had a very good camp and has flashed at times in preseason. If anything this signing is about Carter.
  11. Yep, he wasn't even invited to another team's training camp, and now we are signing him to the active roster two weeks before week 1. I can't explain it.
  12. So much for the PS idea:
  13. Ogunjobi is safe until week 7 at minimum I would think, even if they plan to cut him might as well keep him around while he's suspended in case of injury. I figured they'd keep 5 DTs so maybe Carter is gone and Phillips is his replacement? But that doesn't solve our biggest need there which is a legit backup to Daquan Jones. Just a bizarre signing.
  14. Yeah I don't understand this one. EDIT: To the active roster, NOT the practice squad:
  15. Well to be fair, the Bills defense has had plenty of players that "do all the little things" but then always fail to make a big play in a big moment. Fans maybe have gotten a bit sick of that archetype. So I think having a DL who might be the inverse of that is a great addition to the roster. Consistency is important but splash plays win games. Walker looks like a splash play waiting to happen.
  16. I just can't bring myself to care about his run defense, especially in a rookie season where he is going to have a specialized rotational role. Put him next to Oliver on 3rd downs or late in games in obvious passing situations and just let him penetrate. I understand he was going against backup OL but he was obviously way too much to handle for whichever unfortunate soul he was matched up against. On his run defense - He gets washed down the line when he stands up too tall off the snap. This was a known problem during his time at Kentucky and he needs to continue working on it to become a 3 down player. I did notice at least some progress last night though. He had a couple dominant run stuffs where he kept his pads low and that leverage allowed him to easily swat aside his blocker and get into the backfield almost immediately. He's been shockingly bad this preseason. I know he was nothing to write home about in his rookie season but he never looked this bad. Not only was he on the field with the Nelson Ceasars of the defensive line, he was going against the Nelson Caesar version of offensive linemen and was getting stonewalled on every snap. I know the Bills asked him to change his weight and try to become a more natural 1T, and that experiment has just flat out failed. My one slight concern with trading him would be that some other team will get him back to a 3T body and he'll eventually develop into a good player. But I just don't see how he fits into the long term plans here. I'll throw Ogunjobi out as another player that has seriously underwhelmed me this preseason. He's been playing 3T next to Carter almost exclusively if my eyes don't deceive me, and he just isn't getting any kind of push at all. Looks like yet another classic Beane bust of a DL signing - a 30+ year old who has declined in recent years but we for some reason hand him a legit contract. Because of void years he even costs $2.57M against the cap in 2026, and will still be haunting the cap table in 2027 and 2028! Beane really just can't help himself with these players. I was so proud of him for restraining himself but he had to go and spoil it on the last meaningful day of free agency. The man needs to get himself a sponsor and start attending meetings. On DTs in general - We're in a weird spot with this position. It's kind of like the WR conversation where we joke about having nothing but slot players, except here it is all 3Ts. Does Daquan Jones even have a comparable backup on this roster? Zion Logue is the only player that jumps out which is crazy to say out loud. Does he have a chance of making it if we trade Carter?
  17. I'll be afraid if they aren't!
  18. Jeez Carter is out there on the final drive of preseason. Shows you what the coaching staff thinks of him. And he is once again getting stonewalled by random 3rd/4th stringers.
  19. Bass' kicks have been flagging right all night and it finally cost him there
  20. Zy Alexander has been pretty good considering the circumstances. I wonder if he has a legit chance at the PS.
  21. Haven't seen Carter get off a single block tonight
  22. There's nothing weird about it. Shavers has obviously been performing better in every preseason game. Moore's preseason highlight is a single whip route that he got open on. Good for him. Shavers plays primarily outside unlike Moore, he continually gets open with his release, he made a crazy tough TD catch tonight. You have to let Elijah Moore go.
  23. We have this conversation every year. Fans vastly overrate the likelihood of any cut player getting claimed. There's nothing Moore has put on tape that would make teams suddenly decide he's a clearly better choice than their own depth WRs, when he was already passed on by all of those teams during the main period of free agency. I don't know why you've been so confident about his chances.
  24. Moore was available for any team to sign after the draft. He is not the roster lock you've been saying he is and it's very unlikely any other team will poach him.
  25. Even on the drop he had an excellent release to get open. So still a positive rep despite the drop. The two guys that look a step above the opponent's 2s tonight are Walker and Shavers.
