He's played 60% of our special teams snaps and was a draft pick from this year. Zero chance we were risking him on waivers. I believe Hodgins was waived when Kumerow was back healthy, by the time he got injured again Hodgins was already gone. I'm sure the Bills would like to have him as a call-up option but if we're down to Isaiah Hodgins taking offensive snaps on this roster things have gotten really out of hand. I'm not even remotely worried about it.

By rule, yes. This line of questioning doesn't make sense in context with the modern rules. There are a lot of plays where if the DB doesn't let the WR catch it, it's a penalty. Just like you can't ever tackle a WR early before they have a chance to try and catch the ball, you can't ever lay a violent hit on the WR's head. To avoid possible penalties like that you have to be in a better position to make a play on the ball or undercut the pass. That doesn't mean Hamlin did the wrong thing in the moment, just like there are CBs that will intentionally interfere with their WR because they know they're about to be beat for a deep TD. It's still a penalty.

I could be wrong but I don't think the ejection was meant to be a punishment and I don't think he would have been ejected in a game that still mattered. Sometimes officials use their discretion to stop a play like this from snowballing into a worse conflict. They would never come out and say this was the reason why he was ejected, but taking him out of the game stops any thoughts of retaliation from the Patriots. Especially in a game between division rivals where things already have a tendency to get chippy. This is a somewhat hidden role that the officials have, they're supposed to keep games from getting out of control.

People are disappointed in him because of these stats: -52.2 catch % on targets -10.4 drop % -85.7 passer rating when targeted Considering the caliber of QB throwing to him there's a point where you have to accept that Davis is responsible for his own struggles. Allen will always make WRs produce above their talent level. Looking at raw production isn't good enough. And keep in mind 26% of his total yards and 33% of his total TDs came in one game. A true #2 WR doesn't have one monster game, a few middling games, and a few disappearing acts; not with a QB at Allen's level and a coverage-stealing #1 WR at Diggs' level. Nothing wrong with Davis' skill set but he is not playing his ideal role right now.

Davis has never been a separator. He's at his best just running vertically and taking advantage of holes in the defense that come from the attention they pay to the rest of the offense. That was his role here for two years and it worked brilliantly. Ideally he'd be a #3 WR, not a full time #2. They decided to give him his opportunity after his monster game against the Chiefs but unfortunately he hasn't risen to the occasion. That's why OBJ is currently in WNY. Beane recognizes that Davis can't handle the increased role he's been giving.
