If Diggs' relationship with the team has totally broken down, or if some team offers a great trade package, or some combination of the two. I'm not advocating to trade Diggs. Financially and from a roster perspective it makes more sense to keep him and if anything unload him next offseason. I'm just saying the people who are crowing that it's "impossible" to get rid of Diggs are wrong. Doing it pre-6/1 is likely impossible unless they are just giving up on the 2024 season. Doing it post-6/1 is certainly feasible though and there would be benefits as soon as next year.

No, you can rollover any unused cap space the next year no matter what. By 4PM the day after the regular season finale, teams have to let the NFL know what unused cap space they are rolling over. So if we free up $19 million and don't use it we can roll that over to 2025 which would help to mitigate the $22 million dead cap hit we'd have for Diggs.
-
Yes you can always roll over unused cap space so in that sense it would help.

Two things to keep in mind with post-6/1 designations: 1) You can release a player before 6/1 and give them a post-6/1 designation, but you cannot trade a player prior to 6/1 with a post-6/1 designation. So if the plan is to trade Diggs, we'd have to wait until June. 2) Whether releasing or trading a player with a post-6/1 designation, the cap ramifications do not change until 6/1. So with Diggs we would free up $19 million in cap space this year, but it wouldn't be usable until well after free agency has dried up which means it is effectively useless. There's really no scenario where trading Diggs this offseason helps our roster this year unfortunately. The only reason to do it would be if he and the team's relationship has totally broken down, or some team offers us a great trade value that is impossible to ignore.

We talk about draft guys that are the best in the business. Chris Trapasso is one of the worst... His history is littered with bizarre and awful draft takes. One that sticks out in my mind is he had Marquez Stevenson and Dazz Newsome rated many spots higher than Greg Rousseau on his final big board. It's one thing to stick your neck out with bold takes, but stuff like that is less than amateurish.

FWIW my source told me there has been no substantial discussions with DQ for several months now. Last time the Bills and him talked about an extension it was before his injury. It appears that we will only get him back if he finds out he has a worse than expected market in free agency and we're able to get him on a cheap one year deal. I'm not sure it's sunk in for fans how bad the cap situation is this offseason... It's not like other years where we can just push salary down the road and come out with like $25 million in cap space to work with. The realistic moves I made using Over the Cap's simulator got me around $8M-$10M in available cap space, and that was with me executing every single move that I thought made sense. The long term plan probably relied on being able to restructure Von Miller's and Stefon Diggs' contracts again this year, but now that seems like a terrible idea given how those players performed. I would think Beane will leave those contracts alone so we have an option to get out of them next year, but that means we have to take our medicine this year. We really have to nail the draft this year and probably rely on late rounders and even a few UDFAs just to build out the roster. I expect rookies will get more playing time than usual under this regime out of necessity. All the wasteful defensive line spending has really caught up to them and they just don't have the resources to overpay old vets anymore.

I could see Fiske being a 3rd round target for us. We need to load up on defensive line talent in this draft if for no other reason than to make sure we have enough bodies at the position...

I expect him to do well at the combine, not sure if it will help his stock too much unless he does something crazy like run in the 4.2s. With some of the concerns out there on his game I thought the Senior Bowl would have been his best chance to make an impact. Instead he struggled the first day and couldn't finish. Bummer. The good news on this from the Bills side of things is that he is very likely to be available at #28 if he's the player we're targeting.

No Legette is disappointing. He was apparently dealing with ankle soreness throughout the week and left Thursday practice early.

Frazier Hired As Seahawks Assistant Head Coach
HappyDays replied to Dick_Cheney's topic in The Stadium Wall
After this past season, I don't blame Frazier at all for any defensive struggles we had during his time here. It's McDermott's defense. Always has been. This year the defensive performance was identical to every year Frazier was here - Looked like the best defense in the league through the first month; suffered a mid-season slump that culminated in losing a chance at the #1 seed; rebounded in December; then inevitably collapsed in the playoffs when faced with real competition. That's been the narrative every year since 2020 and there's only one common denominator. I don't think Frazier is some defensive genius, and I'm not losing sleep over his exit, but he inspired and developed his players, and had the defense fighting hard on every snap. He wasn't responsible for the failures of the scheme. -

I'm happy for him. He's a good man and a good coach. -
How do you explain Diggs invisibility act

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39445138/bills-wr-stefon-diggs-uncertain-future-holds Really wish Diggs would have more self-awareness when he talks to the media. Every offseason it's the same cryptic messaging and it becomes a distraction. -
The only thing Josh needs to do more in the early/mid part of the season is be willing to slide. Save lowering the shoulder and hurdling defenders for December and January. But he should always feel free to take off running when he wants to. I've never understood fans (and the coaching staff) that want to limit his running ability at any point in the season. As long as he slides after picking up the 1st, who cares?
-
This is obviously false. What are we even doing here? Again, he had ZERO dropped interceptions on the season. If defenders can catch his passes, his teammates that are paid to catch his passes can do it too. It's crazy how many excuses fans come up with to avoid admitting that his pass catchers simply weren't very good this year. Shakir was probably the best of them over the course of the entire season, and that represents a huge failure by Beane.

Or we lock up our seed early and get to rest our starters in week 18 like the Chiefs did this past year. Or even finish with the #1 seed for the first time ever under McDermott, by escaping those persistent mid-season lulls. I hope this past season has caused a lot of people to re-think their mindset of "just get to the playoffs and we'll be fine." Nothing is guaranteed in this league and getting to avoid KC until the conference championship is worth pursuing.

The Chiefs defense gave up less points in 3 playoff games than the Bills defense gave up in 2 playoff games.

Brady is the most consistent player I've ever watched. That's what made him great. Obviously QBs like Allen and Mahomes can make plays that Brady can only dream of, but they also make mistakes he would never make. If you're starting a team with very little supporting talent on offense I would take Mahomes because he can do more with less. But starting a team with decent or better supporting talent I would take Brady over any other QB in history. Fun fact about the two - Brady was the opposing QB in Mahomes' first regular season loss, first playoff loss, and first Super Bowl loss. That will make a nice trivia question 20 years from now.

How do you explain Diggs invisibility act

He wasn't seeing double teams down the stretch. L'Jarius Sneed flat out erased him in the divisional round, the latest Chiefs CB to do so in a playoff game. I'm hopeful the injury narrative is true. If the Diggs we got down the stretch is just who he is now, his contract is almost as big an albatross as Von Miller. But this is the predictable outcome of massively under-investing in the WR position over the years. We went from lamenting our #2 WR situation to wondering if we even have a #1 still. Our WR depth chart as it stands right now is arguably worse than it was in 2019. Which is why Beane simply has to spend 2 high draft picks on the position this year. There is no other solution. -
-
Most mocks have him in the 3rd or 4th. Mock Draft Database has his consensus pick as #86.

Lets support the new Staff and hope for the best.

Harty too. Everyone on here has forgotten he is still under contract next year. That being said he carries a $5.57M cap hit so I doubt we will keep him for that. My guess is we see a patented Brandon Beane pay cut down to something more reasonable, maybe $3.5M with a $1M void year in 2025 similar to what we did with Tim Settle. -
My ideal draft scenario is Franklin or Legette R1, then someone in the mold of Polk/Rice/Baker in R2 or R3. I want elite physical skills in R1, then round it out with a route running or possession receiver on day two.
