Not so flattering write-up on Ray Lewis and the NFL
Heavy Kevi replied to Heavy Kevi's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Yes.... And I would add "big" everything has skeletons in their closets. -
https://amp-si-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/amp.si.com/nfl/2018/08/04/ray-lewis-hall-fame-weekend-atlanta-murders?amp_js_v=a2&amp_gsa=1#amp_tf=From %1%24s Very interesting read where the writer basically asserts that the NFL has proven willing to cover up (or ignore/obstruct the truth) issues of their stars. Kind of hard to argue with his assertion. It's not even really a "hit piece", but more of an article meant to bring these practices to light. This particular writer describes his experiences reporting this story for years and the intimidation and roadblocks he faced just trying to get the story. I don't think this is particularly controversial, but is something I feel like most football fans may be interested in reading.

Marijuana?!?! GASP! I would love to get Willies auto in September, but I feel I'll be lucky if he even plays. From what I understand he has not played over a dozen of these OMF's because he wasn't feeling well. I can't blame him, he's damn near 90 years old, but I do hope I get a chance to see him. Haha. This was my first CD. I bet I could still sing along with it cover to cover.

Baby steps. 4 days. I can handle that better.

I just love that, to quote Trace Atkins, country songs are "songs about me". I can directly relate to it, and just for that reason it's hard to beat. Country also takes it for me because of Bluegrass, which I consider to be an extension of the genre. You add Bill Monroe, Ricky Skaggs, Earl Scruggs, amd Doc Watson to the country list and there's no list of Brits that tops it. Imo of course.

There it is. Uk has rock, US has country. It's a tie. UK vintage vinyl is much better though. They had the edge on pressing good records. Also, since the most popular vinyl at the time was british, many of the American pressings of bands like Black Sabbath, Zep, Floyd, amd many others were actually recorded on whatever (casette, reel tape, or an actual record itself and not the plate), then sent across the pond, and then recorded and pressed off of those mediums. So not only could they press better than us, but they had it first hand where we had a copy of a copy. The new 180g vinyls are awesome though.

Okay I'll play Here's the prophet:

Good call. Let me pile on You got it right. It's called $#!t. For the most part, country died 20 years ago. It's part of a movement to morph all music into the same thing: poppy, electronic, beat-heavy, catchy chorus junk. Only difference is one genre talks about drugs and thugs, another talks about drugs and trucks, and the others talk about drugs and love. Bleh.

1. Waylon 2. Hank Sr 3. Hank Jr. 4. Cash 5. Merle Heck of a birthday gift. I did get an autographed postcard of Johnny Cash some years ago. Pretty awesome. I even had it authenticated. Still hanging on the wall now. Funny thing is that it's probably the only pic I've seen of him wearing blue, but the little brass tag says "Man in Black". Of course that was a moniker of his, but they had to put it on the only freakin' picture in existence of him not wearing black.

I would go see a Waylon "impersonator" or cover band. Waylon is my favorite even among the giants like Hank and Cash. I found a British pressing of Ladies Love Oitlaws and it is easily my best quality country vinyl. What an amazing press it is, and what a great tracklist. It's a toss up for me whether I like Ladies Love Outlaws as much as Lonesome, On'ry, and Mean but my copy of that kinda sucks so I listen to the better quality albums more. Also a big fan of Cedartown Georgia, Always Been Crazy, and Are You Ready for the Country. I guess now I'm just listing Waylon albums lol. Love this guys music. I saw the Pink Floyd Experience at the Smith Opera House in Geneva about 10 years ago and it was awesome. Almost as good as Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes the next weekend...

This is REALLY hard. I would have an easier time coming up with a top 20 or 25. 5 is restrictive, but here goes... Black Sabbath - Paranoid Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon Waylon Jennings - Ladies Love Outlaws Paul Simon - Graceland Metallica - Kill 'em All Hon. Mention... Michael Jackson - Off the Wall Can't believe I just made a top 5 with no Hanks... But when I really think of it as 5 albums I can't live without, it's those 5. Best country voice of all time!

Home remidies for Strep Throat?
Heavy Kevi replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Reefer edibles. Won't solve the problem, but can ease the symptoms and you may forget you had a problem for a while. -
I'm gonna let that one slide since you have "ski" at the end of your name.... ...but this is just terrible. I can't even imagine the line of serial killers, rapers, and general pervs waiting to get this stuff. Wow. 2018 I guess.

Buffalo (WNY) vs. "Fair Weather" Areas
Heavy Kevi replied to Heavy Kevi's topic in Off the Wall Archives
No, deer are in abundance here. I've hit 7 of them just in cars. They give out several buck AND doe tags when you renew the license, but you can apply for the white deer lottery if you want to. Most people I know kill as many deer as they can, and don't generally "tag out". Admittedly I not the greatest hunter. I don't sit still well. So it's a lucky year for me to even kill 1, but then I'm done. I just want the meat. That's why I don't apply for white deer, they are for trophy, and I'm not eating something like that that is all white for who-knows-why that live their whole lives in the ex army depot where they stored nukes. Something just makes me wonder if those suckers are radioactive or are white because of radiation. They say it's safe, but I'm not buying it. -

It is. Bountiful wildlife as well. More diverse in the twin tiers NY/PA but still very good in WNY. In my area you can get a tag (through lottery) to hunt the all-white deer at the old depot compound. I won't go south of the PA/MD border. Lol When I move, it will be probably north, possibly Alaska or at least northern NH. -
Overload one side of the line and put a spy on (or double) Shady to guard against the cutback. If you can put pressure on McPeterAllen and guard against Shady's cut, you can shut down our offense. I don't believe, with the current personnel, we could overcome that. I hope I'm wrong and Daboll has some sorcery cooked up, but this year looks like it could be a long one for the offense.

I want to see Hank with somebody, I hear his combo shows are better. Also I hear Charlie is selective with what he plays, as he no longer agrees with smoking amd drinking and the like. From what I understand he changes some lyrics too, like when he plays "Saddle Tramp". Jinks is cool. Not in love with him so much as Whitey Morgan or Hellbound Glory (before the new dumpster fire). You are right there are not many good ones left. I must admit as far as new music goes there isn't much anywhere. I like Metallica's new album and am currently addicted to Greta Van Fleet but other than that I'm not into the poppy, well, every damn thing.

Buffalo (WNY) vs. "Fair Weather" Areas
Heavy Kevi replied to Heavy Kevi's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I agree with this... But this seems to be a thin majority- fair weather just overtook Buffalo in the poll... But what you call 'pool weather', I call brutal heat. But to quote Chan Gailey "that's why Baskin Robbins has 31 different flavors" Still shows love for Buffalo, can you imagine what the poll would look like if we polled Californians? -
Thanks for the info. Sturgill has taken a step back since going national. His first two albums are much closer to tradtional- or really more neo-traditional country, and I really enjoy them. Doubt he plays much old stuff though since the new album made him popular. I am excited to see Rateliff, but will openly admit I would rather see OCMS or Jamey Johnson given the chance. JJ to me represents the best of this new age pop country. Never seen OCMS but see great bluegrass at Pickin' in the Pasture in Lodi every year. Good stuff. I will try the LNExperience for sure... I already bought lawn seats since the venue is so expensive. Sitting in one of the front sectiins is going for $400+ right now, so I do hope your tip works. Thanks! Also, not expecting a great Wille show, but I want to see him just to have seen him. I was too young when Waylon and Cash died, and never got a chance to see Merle, but I am determined to see Willie, Hank Jr. and Charlie Daniels before they all die; even though all of them are a shell of their former selves. I missed out on Michael Jackson (had tix to the This is it tour), saw (the most terrible) Bob Dylan show, and will see Metallica in October at Keybank Arena. This year I'm trying to see everybody I can.

I am seeing the outlaw music festival in Saratoga in September. Tickets were pricey as heck, but I want to see Willie Nelson and am a fan of Sturgill Simpson and Nathaniel Rateliff. I am curious, did they play when you saw it, and if so how were they? Also wondering if Sturgill had the brass with him or not. I don't mind sitting on the lawn sometimes (breaks the baseball rule), but when it's a show I care about I get good seats. Still waiting for a decent deal on Metallica in October.

Buffalo (WNY) vs. "Fair Weather" Areas
Heavy Kevi replied to Heavy Kevi's topic in Off the Wall Archives
That's what I hear often from winter-haters, that it's the commute (or just driving in snow in general) that they hate the most. When I was a teenager I had cars and admittedly did not like it as much. Now I have had a 4x4 pickup ever since and as long as you have good tires, it makes driving in snow a non-issue. I actually love driving in it, since so many people just stay in their houses the roads are more vacant. -

Perhaps, that's why I made it a poll! Well it's obvious where we differ. 50 degrees is pretty much my favorite temperature. But I'm just 30, and hoping as I age I will be able to handle the Buffalo summers... Lol No chance I could ever acclimate to a hot climate.
