  1. I don't know if this fits your definition of "before it's time", but Orwell was a goddam prophet.
  2. True. Unfortunately the in-depth discussion is being killed by the social media "like" system which rewards people with peer approval for controversial or "click-bait" arguments and headlines. People don't even read articles or listen anymore... It's just wait for your turn to scream your opinion over everyone else and slam any opinion that wasn't yours.. Pretty pathetic and that's why I don't do social media, though it is creeping into forums as well. The only other forum I regular (bladeforums.com) luckily is not like that. It is heavily moderated because people are buying and selling on there too, so there's money to support the infrastructure. Scott has done a great job here with TBD as well, but there are still droves of pathetic losers who live to feel tough by slammimg people online.
  3. I have been to several teams pages in the last few years on weeks they play us... And yeah they are all terrible. Social media has taken over. They have a page just to have a page and all the real content goes to twitter, fb, the app, and the like.
  4. Only gambling addicts. I had a boss when I was younger that would bet on girls softball, golf, mud racing- ANYTHING...
  5. I have spent endless hours listening to this record spin and staring at the many images in this cover art. One of my favorite records and album covers.
  6. I think there's a good chance that WR is priority #1 next offseason. I don't want to predict where it comes from because Beane.
  7. What if... Zay turns into the receiver we thought he could be when drafted? If our new system and QB can use KB and Zay effectively maybe, just maybe we won't have the worst WR corps. Could even be downright serviceable.
  8. I think accuracy can be improved. While a terribly inaccurate passer is very unlikely to become a "small window" guy, other factors and changes can have a positive impact on effective accuracy. I am of the opinion that Allen had the challenge of playing with lower talent in college. I believe that's what I saw Thursday night- pretty good, catchable throws (even the deep ones) that a better receiver would have made. I also think some coaching will have a positive impact as well. Combine those factors, and I think he will be accurate enough to be very successfull at tue NFL level. I do not know if that will materialize, but it won't be accuracy problems that sink him, if he indeed sinks.
  9. For real. There was more John Murphy in there than Reilly. Hardly a "mic'd up" segment.
  10. I think the thing alot of folks who don't watch him don't realize how dramatic the arm talent is. I have heard his arm compared to contemporaries like Rapistburger, Stafford, Cutler, even Losman, etc... Fact is it's one of the best pure arm talent (maybe the best) I've ever seen. When he lets it go, it's special, just plain different. The velocity, the arch, and honestly for all of his talk of inaccuracy, puts it on a spot even when off balance, throwing on the run, or with an awkward motion/sidearm or whatever. It's not just a "strong armed guy". He is now THE strong armed guy in the NFL. Move over flacka and rapist.
  11. After seeing this thread/pic yesterday, I stopped at a walmart for a couple things on the way to work. There were at least 5 girls with shorts that were smaller/shorter than this girl... ...and I liked it ?
  12. That's what I saw, too. Those suckers looked like they were snapped underwater.
  13. This video is awesome. Then Cam gets pissed and storms off. Looked like an ex-gf trying to get answers, but KB had no answers for him.
  14. None sports talk. He looked like he was swimming in his head, was not caught up with what's happening, which leads to not being able to hold other players accountable. What's laughable is for you to pretend you know what I'm thinking. You could make a real observation, or just talk **** because you have nothing of value to say. Welcome to my ignore list, champ.
  15. "Ain't bad", along with your quick synopsis, sums it up perfectly. Agree whole-heartedly. I took away a few things: 1. He's not startimg this year 2. He need's to mature and command the huddle 3. He's frickin' huge 4. The arm talent is undeniable, can make awkward and off-balance throws because of it. 5. #4 leads to INT's. But I saw shades of Favre. Obviously I have no idea if he ends up good or not, but it's that creativity, the shear god-given football throwing ability coupled with the willingness to sling it. Fun to watch. I was mega-impressed when he launched towards the endzone on the free play from the defense. It's been a while since we had a QB who would recognize the free play, take the shot, and have the tools to actually have a chance to make the play.
  16. Yup. I was over the heat already in mid-june. Lets get football back on the TV, Get the rotten little kids back in school, Get the temp back to comfortable, Wind down the busy season, And may snow be soon to follow.
  17. I know, I know... It's not the dead. Some of my favorite hippie jams though... Or at least by my definition
  18. What do you mean "would ya"? Of course, frickin' of course. Look at her. And I don't mind thoroughbreds. Plus she can kill deer? Yes please.
  19. There isn't high speed internet where I am. I just have the phone for internet. It is nice seeing it live, but what I can get doesn't really equate to "seeing it".
  20. Yuck. Rather than the radio or some grainy online feed, I guess I'll just stay off the boards tomorrow night and watch it "live" at 10am Friday.
  21. Salary cap makes having "dream teams" difficult to assemble and stay together. Coupled with FA it's almost impossible. RB-wise a few things are in play. One, they just don't stay in their prime well, and the career is far and away shorter than a QB or WR... So right there that's tough. But also, GMs and HCs don't want to use up their talent all at once. The "curse of 370" and the "1800 threshold" are generally true, so they don't want to hit those numbers. The curse of 370 is that if a RB gets more than 370 carries in a year, it burns him out and he sucks next year. The 1800 threshold is that once a RB gets 1800 carries, he's done being productive and starts to fall off a cliff statistically. Here's an interesting read o the curse of 370. It's from 2007 and it's about if Shaun Alexander will be good again, but it's the most comprehensive case forthe curse I have seen: https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2007/370-carries-revisited Here's a more recent (and extremely comprehensive) look at the 1800 rule: https://www-numberfire-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.numberfire.com/nfl/news/4940/measuring-nfl-running-back-longevity-falling-off-the-1-800-carry-cliff/amp?amp_js_v=a2&amp_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQCCAE%3D#referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&amp_tf=From %1%24s&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.numberfire.com%2Fnfl%2Fnews%2F4940%2Fmeasuring-nfl-running-back-longevity-falling-off-the-1-800-carry-cliff
  22. They do share with busboys and bartenders, but not with back-of-house. Also this is a very new, NY specific law. Idk if it exists elsewhere. The law started with a sob story about how tough it is to be a waitress and since they raised the waitress min wage, they didn't want employers forcing tip-pooling to avoid paying more to back-of-house. The fact is the growing chasm between front and back of house pay has left a dearth of folks willing to work in the kitchen when they find out they can work 5 hours instead of 8 and make 2x or 3x the money out front. Not to mention they generally only pay tax on 5-10% of the tips. And it CAN be tough to be a waitress, customers can really suck, but if a waitress works 40 hours at a decent restaurant, they often make $700-$1000 or more weekly. Typically only 1 person in the kitchen gets paid that much. If it was up to me, everybody would get the same hourly wage, and split the tips evenly. Waitresses get tipped for two things, 1. Service, and 2. Food... so it makes sense to tip everyone involved. No matter what job you do, if your pay is directly related to how good of a job you do, you are a much better, more productive, happier employee. Like you said... Those guys need some $$$
  23. I have worked in more than a dozen restaurants and have only seen tip splitting in one (which is now closed). Either way our illustrious governor made tip-splitting illegal. We are no longer allowed to force our wait staff to share tips with anyone. I have cooked for 18 years, run kitchens, and now own one... And have gotten probably $80 total throughout my career in tips.
  24. Many people also tip the waitress if they had a good meal, though. Kitchen gets none of that. 6 of one, half dozen of the other. For what it's worth I know waitresees that will blame the kitchen for problems anyway because people won't penalize their tips. I had a waitress call it "a victimless crime". She's not the only one... Obviously I'm biased having grown up a cook, but many people may not realize that aside from the owner, the waitresses/bartenders are the highest paid people in the restaurant and it's not even close. Not to mention their shift lengths are generally about half as long as the kitchen workers. I'm not jealous, I couldn't deal with people constantly and food is my passion, but it seems like nobody recognizes the dishwashers, prep cooks, etc. They have families to support, too and they work longer hours and make less money. Just a little love for the dishwashers of the world that never get mentioned or tipped, or anything. Kinda got off topic
