What is a “true #1 WR?”
Brianmoorman4jesus replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I mean #1 literally means the first option. And certain passing concepts and schemes value different skill sets. The Patriots flat out spread you thin and then attack the middle of the field. That’s what they do now. If they had a big time WR on the outside and Edelman in the slot, they still are going to go to the underneath guy most of the time. It’s a rhythm on time passing game. They should just classify WR as “inside guys” and “outside guys” They are quite different. -

Yeah. Of course. I don’t know why people act like a slot WR can’t be the #1 option. Reed was. Some offenses are just built that way. -

I would say it’s the best WR you have. The WR that the other teams defense will try and focus on. The WR that will most likely lead your team in targets and most of the important stats. The go to guy. A WR that you are game planning to get involved. If you need a play through the air, the guy you are looking for. Progression 1 on most non-gimmick passing plays. -

If there is 1 thing the Bills have always been able to find, it’s a good RB. I’m not worried. One way or another we will have a good to great RB soon enough. We always do -

I mean, I would say without question if the Bills wanted one of them they could have gotten to 2. I realize the giants act like they didn’t want to move but there is a point where you just don’t say no. The minute the jets got to 3, we should have gone to 2. We had the picks. I said it from the day it happened and never came off it. If you wanted Darnold, you give the giants a blank check and get to 2. My guess is they wanted Allen all along and probably even leaked the tweets so he would fall. No way to know for sure. -

Balls are being thrown wildly all game long. That is not disputable. Allen has made some good throws. Some good passes have been dropped. Way more easy throws have been missed though. It just has to get better. It’s year 1. It’s okay. No need to get defensive. 2 rookie QBs seen to be superior passers right now but it’s not a career sentence. -

I’m not going to just keep hearing this is all on the WRs. The WRs made plays when Barkley played and the WRs get open. There have been some drops but every qb deals with that. The issue is there is never a pass thrown with touch on it and the balls are late or sprayed wildly around. Allen has been okay but he doesnt look to be anywhere near the passers that Mayfield or Darnold are. The Jets and Browns are not loaded at WR or immune to drops. The balls need to be thrown better. No need for excuses. -

Allen needs to start making the accurate intermediate timing throws that Mayfield and Darnold routinely make. The 40 yard laser is fun to watch but you can’t be completing 50% of your passes in a league where all of the rules help the offense. The passes with touch on them are just not there right now. What Darnold and mayfield look like now is what Allen needs to get to. Before this season ends, a screen pass or a 4 yd crossing route can’t look difficult. -

If I’m the Bills it’s Murphy and Ford from here out. McCoy and Ivory serve no purpose for the remainder of this season. Let’s see the young guys. -

It’s on NBC too. I love Saturday nfl. I wish there was a Saturday game every week. I’m an nfl Junkie. I don’t care who the teams are, I’ll watch it. I wish a game was on every day like all the other sports -
The patriots have turned guys into superstars like Welker and Edelman. And while they don’t have a long list of big time outside WRs, they still always try to have big time WRs. A lot of guys have gone there and not worked out but they still bring them in. Chad johnson, Cooks, Amendola, Gordon etc They make an effort to have big time WRs it just doesn’t always fit

I think he will be on the team but not be one of the top WRs to see playing time. If he shows up a little more in the passing game here the last 3 games, maybe. I think we bring in at least 1 stud outside WR. Then we have Zay (who they gave up some important assets for) and Foster. That doesnt leave a lot of room.

I have a strange feeling that if Ford gets a look, he might be a player. Absolutely no concrete reason, pure gut. He looked pretty solid in preseason and he will have fresh legs. If the Bills kept him on the PS all year he must have shown them something. I would love to see him start and play the majority of the game tomorrow. Get 20+ carries and see what he looks like. He is giving me a Travis Henry vibe but again, it’s purely gut here. No real reasoning behind it. Probably just hope

I would figure the Bills go after a cornerstone LT early in the draft and kick Dawkins to RT. I don’t think Mills is that bad I just think these guys in charge want 53 players that they brought here. It’s felt to me from day 1 that: Beane and Mcd would rather lose with their own guys then win with someone else’s. Which is very upsetting. The Whaley guys were probably the biggest reason we made it last year but they have been systematically squeezed out.

I think the player with the most to gain or lose over this last 3 game stretch is Foster. One good game is a fluke. Two can be just benefiting from circumstances. He has now had 3 really good games in the last 5 weeks. If Foster can go out and put up a couple more 100yd games in these last 3 weeks, he’s going to start. I’m not sure if he is actually good or not yet, but I am really interested in where this goes. If Foster goes away and does nothing over these last 3 weeks, we will probably see him on the backend of the roster next season. If he is having 5+ catches for 90+ yards in these last few games, then I think Foster becomes our go to WR heading into the offseason.
