Agreed. We "overpaid" the QB premium on draft pick cost, similar to what the Jets did. Draft value charts don't take into account positional value. The Cardinals actually paid BELOW normal market value on the trade value chart, so when taking the QB premium into account, they got a steal, but also may not have got the guy they really wanted. We amassed draft capital over the past 12+ months up give us the ability to "overpay" without crippling this year/future drafts. Did we take the right QB? Time will tell, but we all least got the guy that our front office and coaching staff wanted, while not giving up the farm (we didn't even give up the prized hog) and walked away with a potential franchise QB and a likely 10+ year linebacker defensive captain. I'm good with the outcome. Just get the kid a line and somebody to catch the balls he's launching from that howitzer.

Start Allen from Day 1/ QB competition
SouthNYfan replied to BuffaloBud420's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I heard he can toss a pigskin over a quarter mile. -
I dunno we were pretty bad lol. I think obviously our receivers are better than his in Wyoming, but they're also playing against NFL defenses, so they might wind up being just as bad in terms of getting open. We absolutely should kick the tires on Decker, maclin, and Michael floyd

What This Draft Taught Bills Fans

100% Can't ever win ab hand if you don't pony up and bet some chips, you'll just go broke playing the blind and folding every time it's your turn to go big. I'm not saying to go all in on a pair of deuces before the flop, but you gotta at least get to the turn or the river instead of backing out early. -
Yeah I think he's just being smart and giving lip service to not role up any of the QBs, and also trying to not have to eat his own words if Allen is or isn't ready. I think that unless Allen is blowing AJ/Nate away in camp and preseason, then he isn't going to see the field in a live game for a while. Our oline needs work and better to not get the new guy killed before the bye week. I mean, we don't really have any good receivers either, but he is used to that after last year in college with the turd sandwich receiving corps he had in 2017 ?

Yeah I think we should kick the tires on hiring Palmer, he and Allen seem to have a good connection. Also I think we passed on Rosen because Beane decided "project with great raw talent" is a better risk than "shoulder surgery and two concussions with a tiny frame". I think a lot of people were worried Rosen is Bradford 2.0 and made of glass.

No problem. Also didn't include the later round guys we drafted, just went with the big names.

Actually, we used our own first round pick, the second round pick from the Sammy watkins trade, along with our own, to move up and draft Allen. We then used the pick we got from the KC trade down, along with our Tyrod pick from the Browns, to trade up and grab Edmunds. Whoever wrote that analysis is an idiot, and whether you like Allen or not, you cannot look at his selection without also accounting for us getting Edmunds, and cannot ignore White. We traded our own third for Benjamin last year, and grabbed one back on the Darby trade. We used the open cap we would have given to Sammy or Darby to sign star, Murphy, and Davis Basically since Beane took over we gave up: Tyrod Watkins Glenn Darby Dareus (Passed on mahomes/Watson) Added: Allen Edmunds Star Tre White Murphy Vontae Davis Benjamin Harrison Phillips (A couple of other random adds and subtracts here and there) Our team is definitely better overall, and if Allen pans out, it's a grand slam.

Opinions on why we passed on Rosen?

Our track record of QB development isn't great, but it is a new regime so I'm optimistic. I think we need to find a legit QB guru though. I would love to get Jordan Palmer on board, he seems to have a great connection already with Allen. -
I don't disagree with your rankings over who has had better proven seasons, but my biggest argument was that you said his season last year was "middle of the pack at best" He had a better season that a good chunk of the tier one guys on that list. Many of those tier one guys are retiring soon(or coming off a huge injury in luck's case). Most of the tier one guys are on the tail end of their careers, and if their GM called and said "I'll trade you X for Goff straight up" the Rams GM would hang up on them laughing. 6 of your top 11 will be gone within 2-3 seasons Luck and Wentz had season ending inures. So other than Wentz, the Rams wouldn't trade Goff for any of the bolded guys

Not many good players ever wore #17 in the NFL as a whole. He's going to be the best one. Boom.

I'll say I'm okay with the second definition of a franchise QB. I think the elite, all time great is a level we all want, but it's not realistic to disregard any QB who isn't in that group as a failure, or crap on a good QB just because he isn't a HoF guy. (Not saying YOU do, but many others like to do that) I would say that Tony Romo was a franchise QB for many years. Many people crapped on him, unfairly in my eyes. I'd be ecstatic with a guy like him. Allen checks the bold boxes as well. He's a very smart kid, and outscored the chosen one on the wonderlic. Josh Allen: 37 Josh Rosen: 29 Sam Darnold: 28 Baker Mayfield: 25 Lamar Jackson: 13 I don't put much stock in the test in regards to being a QB, but Allen isn't a dummy like you are implying. -
Just gonna go with the first round Worst: Browns. That Ward pick was terrible. Raiders and skins were close too. Best: Miami. I'm legit unhappy to play Fitzpatrick twice a year.

I'm not going to "screech" at this. All fair points. Newton is a very good QB, who as you said, has been up and down. He also has had his offense ripped to shreds around him, with receivers basically being non-existent. I will give you the points that he's up and down. I wouldn't say he's had 5 poor to meh I would say in 7 seasons he has 3 pro bowls (including an MVP) and 4 meh seasons. Poor compared to his high end seasons? Yes. Poor compared to the rest of the NFL? I'd say average. I would consider him a franchise QB, not an all time great elite like Brady, Rodgers, Manning, but good enough to build a team around and make the other team fear you. -
yes I know all about how good Gurley's season was. drew brees had 386 completions for 4334 total passing yards alvin kamara had 81 receptions and 826 receiving yards mark ingram had 58 receptions and 416 receiving yards that means 139 receptions and 1242 of his passing yards went to the 2 running backs that equates to 36% of his completions and 28.7% of his total passing yards jared goff had 296 completions for 3804 total passing yards todd gurley had 64 receptions for 788 receiving yards malcolm brown had 9 receptions for 53 yards that equates to 24.6% of his completions and 22.1% of his total passing yards tom brady had 385 completions and 4577 yards passing james white 56 receptions 429 yards rex burkhead 30 receptions 254 yards dion lewis 32 receptions for 212 yards total of to 118 receptions and 895 yards went to RBs that equates to 30.6% of completions and 19.55% of his total passing yards I guess Drew Brees or Tom Brady (you know, the MVP), werent as good as anybody pictures either, since they had an even larger chunks of completions, with Brees having a significantly higher % of yards, and Brady's yards being roughly equivalent to their RBs. Yes. NFL.com does. https://www.nfl.com/draft/tracker/prospects feel free to look at them. yep.

Yeah. Cutler was actually not a bad QB, just a complete loser of a personality, and honestly didn't look like he gave a crap.

Josh Allen Background Video Stories

Only way they "beat" him out is McD looks at our first 6-8 weeks and says "yeah. um. Let's not kill our new guy. Nate, saddle up, you've got the minnesota pash rush next week!" -
Let it be.. Brandon Beane (video)
SouthNYfan replied to Bills4life1924's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
what are the odds Beane is going to play this every morning from now until forever? -
Well NFL puts up draft grades for each prospect prior to the draft: Jared Goff 6.51 Carson Wentz 6.53 Sam Darnold 7.00 Josh Rosen 6.19 Baker Mayfield 6.04 Lamar Jackson 5.91 Josh Allen 5.90 Bortles was a 6.22 Jared had a "decent year last year, nothing grand" ? The offense he directed led the league in scoring, yes #1 in scoring. He had 3800+ yards, 28 td, 7 int, and 1 rushing TD. 62.1% comp 11-4 record #10 in yards (while being #18 in attempts) #7 in TD #4 in TD% #2 in Y/A and AY/A #2 in NY/A and #1 in ANY/A He had a pretty damn good year. Any team in the league would be happy with that. Wentz was going to win MVP prior to tearing his ACL and missing the last 3 games. Just average seasons though, right? Come on dude. I'm not saying any of this year's crop is going to be all time greats, but they are all very good prospects. I wouldn't be surprised to see all 4 make pro bowls in the near future.
