  1. Thanks dude. That's exactly what they should do then. Transition franchise tag him, that is win-win for the skins. It allows another team to make cousins an offer that he has the right to agree to or not. It then allows them to choose to match it, or say "nah bro, pass" and snag 2 first round picks from the deal. Cousins gets $34-50 million up front year one either way. He gets to choose which team he signs with, while guaranteeing his big paycheck up front. It also allows his deal to be front loaded, which means of he sucks in a couple years, his cap hit isn't an albatross. I'm still flabbergasted that Kirk cousins is going to be getting $34 million next year.
  2. I don't agree with the preference, but I do understand the reasoning. I like Allen better than Mayfield, Rudolph or Jackson. I would be happy with Allen, Mayfield or Rudolph, somewhere in the teens. Any higher I'm not sure I'm on board if the price is too high, which to get in that range it might be.
  3. Bingo. I heard Washington might non exclusive cousins to try and force a team to fork over the picks. With the non exclusive, does the same "consecutive franchise" pay bump still apply? This would be Kirk's third year in a row, with a 44% bump to around $35mil guaranteed. That is a dangerous game of chicken to play if nobody decided to tender him an offer, you're stuck with that bill and a guy who doesn't want to play for you.
  4. Don't you mean "scarred" ?
  5. Agreed. I'm not advocating trade up at all costs. And equating it to "that's what all gamblers say" is true, but the reality is EVERY draft pick is a gamble, so is every free agent. My point was that high stakes gambling, like for a high pick and a QB, costs more to enter the game. Many high pick busts have unforeseen consequences that derail their career (Ryan leaf being a closet lunatic, rg3 and luck injuries, getting drafted by the browns lol, etc) If they do their research, and really like a guy, and don't think he'll be available at 21, they should decide ahead of time what the max are willing to part with, and stick to it. Don't compromise and reach. I'm advocating for a calculated risk, with the assets they deem willing to pay, but if your guy isn't available for the price you want, don't go crazy and bet the rent money too.
  6. Except he was the defensive backs coach for the Superbowl bucs, defensive coordinator for one of the only teams to allow less than 1000 total rushing yards (although their pass defense was bad) Did he inherit a great team? Yep. Is he still a very good coach? Yep. Stop acting like he's trash.
  7. I don't like Jackson, but I'm not big on athletic scramblers. I fully agree with your assessment of him that he needs to sit and put on some muscle. I also agree there is no way Baker drops to #21 unless he murders somebody before the draft and on jail, or gets caught with a bevy of hookers. Darnold, Rosen, Allen, Mayfield will all be gone by 15. One thing to look at is the teams ahead of us in the draft, and their QB situation. There aren't a bunch who are in dire need, so they may be willing to swap spots with us or others. We have to take into account what other teams offer. I think 3 QBs go in top 6. You have the Browns (twice), broncos, and jets in the top 6. Darnold and Rosen will be two of those picks. The third is a wild card. Mayfield or Allen most likely, with the one not taken sliding down. The one who slides and Rudolph should be in the teens.
  8. And there is a 0% chance to get a QB in the draft of you don't, you know, actually draft one. Everybody acts like the other draft picks we have would be automatic pro bowlers, so God forbid we trade them to gamble on a QB. Guess what? Every draft pick is a gamble. Higher draft picks are less of a gamble. QBs are a higher priced scratch off ticket than a linebacker is. That's because if you hit big on a QB it's worth more than hitting big on a linebacker. That's just a fact. It costs more to play a $5,000,000 jackpot lottery ticket than it does to play a $1000 jackpot ticket. You still have to buy the ticket to win. If we don't gamble on a QB in the draft then we are gambling twice as hard on a free agent, since they most likely won't want to sign with us over Denver.
  9. He's been wildly inconsistent his entire career. He has always had streaks where he looked like a pro bowlers, alternated with looking like a dumpster fire. He had a great stretch during the season where he put together like 4-5 great games in a row, which led to tons of sportswriter articles about whether or not bortles had "turned the corner" or "taken the leap" I still wouldn't trust him further than I could throw him, but overall he seems to have learned a lot and improved significantly. As with many talented but underachieving QBs, his greatest area of improvement must be learning to minimize his mistakes, and not just pour fuel on a fire if he is having a poor day.
  10. I think, as @hapless said earlier, trading up get a QB is dependant on a lot of things, and our draft position is clearly not conducive to getting a top5 pick. In all reality, Rosen and darnold shouldn't even be on our radar, as they will be gone top5 (most likely 1 and 2) and the top 10 packs this year are: 1 browns 2 Giants 3 colts 4 browns (again) 5 broncos 6 Jets 7 bucs 8 bears 9 raiders 10 sanfran Looking at that list I see: (Definitely taking a QB) -Browns taking a QB (either at 1 or trading down and taking a QB @4) -Jets (Not taking a QB) Bucs, bears, raiders, sanfran That leaves 4 "wild cards" in the mix for possible picks: -browns other pick. If they go darnold/Rosen at #1 they might trade #4 to drop and stockpile, even if they don't, that is spot where no QB is taken because they won't take two QBs (although it is the browns...) -Giants. Nobody has any idea. If they like Davis Webb enough, they might roll the dice to groom him as Elis heir. If not, they might go QB, but that's a lot of money to pay a backup to groom him. -colts. Total wild card. Depends on luck's shoulder. -broncos. I believe they are going hard on cousins, Smith, or even keenum. They are in "win now" mode, only a QB away again. If they don't land cousins though, they still might draft a youngster to go behind Smith/kenum. 11 dolphins 12 Bengals 13 Redskins 14 Packers 15 cards 16 Ravens 17 chargers 18 Hawks 19 cowboys 20 lions Our only threats from that group to trade up would be: -redskins -cardinals (though they may go after cousins/Smith) I would be happy moving up to get Allen, although that would probably require getting up to #5, and hoping the Jets don't jump to #4, with the broncos being set at QB with cousins, otherwise the will take a QB. If darnold and Rosen go 1-2 or 1-4 then i don't see Allen getting past broncos/Jets. At that point I don't think anybody else is worth going all in for, as the rest are reaching.
  11. This. Do you need a QB chucking 400yards? No. Do you need a QB who can consistently make throws WHEN NEEDED? Yes. Christ look at super bowl winning QBs in last 20 years The only subpar winners who stand out are: Trent dilfer and Brad Johnson. They had all time great defenses. All the QBs were either elite, had an elite hot streak (flacco, Eli twice) or were game managers who MADE THROWS WHEN NEEDED. I have never been confident Tyrod could be "that guy" to nail a 8 yard curl on 3rd and 7 when you're down in the 4th.
  12. 60% of the time it works, every time.
  13. Sorry hap. My Android corrected OC to HC. I should have proofread lol
  14. You have $100million contract. You show up and do your job. Voice your opinion to management. If you don't like it there, play out the deal and leave. Nobody is holding a gun to your head. I understand "kids like him" perfectly. He wants to run the show and not be held accountable for anything he says or does. He wants to blame everybody else for his problems. Nobody forced him to drag race. Nobody forced him to smoke and violate his workplace drug policy multiple times. Nobody forced him to show up late to a GAME. These are on him. Period. Even if he didn't like the job situation he was in, he made no effort to rectify it, other than to act out like a whiny baby. Grow up Marcel.
  15. Agreed As said before I'm not giving daboll credit for pulling the QB on a team run by King Saban. Just like I'm not bashing daboll for his poor OC stint in the NFL a decade ago. I like the hire.
  16. Lukewarm milquetoast with a side of vanilla
  17. I would have handed the ball off too if my QB roster between my 3 NFL gigs consisted of: Jp losman Brady Quinn (twice) Seneca Wallace Colt McCoy (post multiple shoulder injuries) Matt Cassell A one legged Brian hoyer Derek Anderson I feel you. I'm with you here 100%. Especially with a guy like saban who rules the roost.
  18. Based on sabans track record of being a control freak, I'll say that yeah, I think it was saban, the king of the crimson Tide. We will never know though, since it worked out. If saban made the decision, it wouldn't surprise me bc he's the king there. If daboll made it, do you think saban will allow him to take the credit? I don't. I think that if they still lost, or the idea crashed and burned, saban would have thrown daboll under the bus
  19. Agreed. Hopefully daboll wants to be and MCD gives him some leeway. MCD is pure vanilla, slow and steady. Is he the guy to get to to the promised Land? Nah I don't think so. Is he a good choice to steady the ship and build a foundation? I think so.
  20. Ok I can give you that. BB was fired from Cleveland though. Fired. Somebody above him thought he failed. (Not saying they were correct) He took them to 11-5 and the playoffs, then they regressed, on all fronts, and was fired after the move was announced. I'm just saying even if you thought he was decent with the browns, he obviously had improved since then. I would say that HOPE daboll has learned and improved since his HC stint, hoping he learned a bunch under BB on the pats
  21. Yep. Can't really get aggressive on the racetrack when you're driving a stock Honda fit and chasing Ferraris. Just gotta hope enough Ferraris crash, taking each other out while jockeying for position, that the Fit can be the #8 vehicle to finish the race, while the other 8 wrecked. (Which is exactly what we did. Finished the laps, worried about ourselves, and let the other contenders crash and burn before the checkered flag) Now we are trying to throw a little more horsepower under the hood
  22. Well he did continue to have a career, so that's something, right? BB failed in Cleveland. Everybody since Shula has failed in Miami. Christ other than "regular season Midas touch" Andy Reid everybody fails in KC also. See a pattern here? Coaching is generally a crapshoot. Bad coaches catch lightning in a bottle sometimes. Good coaches get handed bad hands sometimes. All you can do is look at his track record (which overall has ups and downs), but most recently is up, and hope for the best. If I had to put a number on it, I'm about 70% excited about this, and happy we made the call and got things settled before the draft.
  23. Tyrod is not a good QB. That was my point. We were a running team. Partly because mccoy is a boss. Partly because Tyrod isn't good.
  24. Except the bills were -32nd in pass attempts -30th in pass yards -27th in passing TD -30th in passing 1st downs Lynn didn't throw the ball because he know tyrod was a tire fire.
  25. Xrushx I'm honestly not trying to be a dbag Valid question Are you defending Tyrod, by saying nobody would succeed with that kind of OC turnover, so give him another shot? Or are you smashing Tyrod, saying it's his fault he's killing OCs careers? (Valid questions btw, I really cannot figure out which side you are on)
