Amen. I said this earlier too. Nobody wants to board the Titanic after it hit the iceberg? That made me laugh, good analogy!! Seriously though. A team that is caught between a "perennial lost cause" and "mediocre at best" for 2 decades, combined with the location of the team (as you said, it's a plus for some, but I would say the majority not so much) combine to make Buffalo a "not friendly" destination for free agents. It's hard to convince somebody this is the best place for them to win when we haven't won in most of these guys' lifetimes for the younger players. It causes teams like the bills to have to overspend on a free agent to sign him over another team. That leads to less cap space for other players, and winds up leaving more roster holes than expected. It's a negative domino. The past 12 months, with the new coach, and front office, and the ownership hopefully, could have us on the upswing! Winning changes a lot of perception for the immediate future hopefully. Winning year in and year out causes guys to want to play somewhere, to grow up wanting to play for that team. It causes guys to take less than market value to sign with a team so that they have a better chance to win. That leads to that team having more open cap space to sign other players as well. It's a good domino effect. That's a huge accomplishment. Here's to the next couple of years looking better than they have in a long time. Let's keep the upswing!

Winning brings in FAs Teams with a history of winning tend to attract more FAs, many times at less than other teams offer. Losing scares them off It's a very hard stigma to break when you've been poor to mediocre at best for the longest streak in NFL history. Hopefully we are on the upward track to being a legit contender year in and year out again. That will be the biggest FA draw.

Oh yeah Good call I agree with this, except you can't keep letting them walk just to draft another either

So if we sign Davis, but lose Gaines, we still have no #3 CB....

How to build the Bills into a Champion

What RB I would target in the draft
SouthNYfan replied to Buffalo716's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think RBs are an even bigger crapshoot than most When you look at the number of 2nd round and later guys that excel, it's astounding vs the number that don't. I guess what I'm saying is I'll agree that you might as well just take one later because it's insane how many don't play well -

Stewart ran a 4.46 sec 40 How could he possibly be "so much faster" and "no contest" Unless a stud is avail in round 2 and your other targeted guys were already picked -
What RB I would target in the draft
SouthNYfan replied to Buffalo716's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bro trust me, I'm all aboard the QB train at this point, hell I was before this past season. I'm just saying I'm good with a RB in the second though if a stud is there. My point is, if the BPA is a RB who drastically outclasses the available position hole in the second, take the RB. Don't overreach for a hole-filling player . That's all I'm saying -

Gurley is working out well for the Rams. It's not a wasted pick if he's a stud. By the way I'm not advocating for or against him, I don't have enough knowledge on this year's draft class of RBs, nor am I comparing any to gurley. I'm better l just saying that a stud RB is very nice to have, and I don't think a 2nd rounder is a waste if he pans out -
What are you giving up for lent TBD style?
SouthNYfan replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kirby, what are your thoughts on Tyrod and Peterman?? Jk In all seriousness I think those things have been exhausted, so probably better for everyone's sanity to avoid them until actual news (trade, cut, whatever) Good luck with lent though! Thankfully I've never been religious, so I haven't been graced with the joys of lent. -
Help Me Out With A Dead Money Explanation
SouthNYfan replied to Ennjay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yep. Short term it actually looks bad on paper, as we are on the hook $14.2mil dead cap in 2018 to him, while only saving $2.3 on the cap. After 2018 though, he's gone from our books for good. He would have had a $11.6mil cap hit in 2019, and it increases from there. It is a win after 2018 for long term cap flexibility. -

Better question: Why did he return to Cleveland?? -
I don't think he's a risk like Johnny football, but he's definitely a hothead and has a bit of personality concern. I personally think he will be fine in the NFL with the right team/coach situation. If he ends up in Cleveland he will prob go insane and flame out. I do agree with you that he doesn't seem to fit the MCD character profile, although, ironically, I think a guy like MCD would be the best thing for him.

And his touchdowns and yards are the only reason they were closer

Agree on all this. Good post hap! Every single QB is technically a system QB. Some guys can play in multiple systems for sure, but for example, the Mannings and Brady would be trash in a read option rollout system. Some QBs just can't play in a system that the NFL would require, these are guys who excel in college, then flounder in the NFL. Sometimes, the case is that they just didn't get the right OC. Look at Kurt Warner. Awesome with the Rams, trash with NYG, great again with Az. In regards to your last line, I love watching old elway clips. Sometimes he would dodge a blindside incoming sack without ever seeing the guy it seemed. I loved watching that.

Jets coach signed a 2 year extension. They were considered to be the worst team, some picked to go 0-16. They greatly over exceeded expectations. Bowles is a solid head coach. I agree that Vance Joseph might be in over his head as a coach. Musgrave is fine. AFC West is gonna be tough with KC and gruden at oak. Jets would be an easier playoff path for Kirk, especially if BB and TB retire soon. The fact that you think bowles is a bad coach is very confusing though.

Depends on the grade of his LCL tear. They can add anywhere from 2-10 weeks to the recovery time. LCL tears generally damage the ITband as well, and are generally indicative of a rotation injury in combination with the translation injury of the ACL. He may have only had a grade 1 LCL tear, which would only tack 2 weeks onto his timeline. True ACL rehabilitation takes about 9 months to a year before most are back. He had the surgical repair on dec 12th I would bet that they try to push him for 9 months recovery. Training camp begins in late July usually. That's 7 months until training camp. Regular season starts Sept 6th. That's 10 months for him to start the season. If all goes well, it's a tight timetable. I would say that if everything goes perfectly and they were being smart and conservative with him, he shouldn't play in preseason, only contact practices starting right around week 1. Prob shouldn't see.a game until week 3-4. Remember, that is typical PROPER ACL recovery time and rehab. He also injured his LCL, which could complicate it. Professional judgement he shouldn't play until at least October, and that's a fast recovery. They might rush him back. I think it's reckless if he plays in preseason and week1 and could be Sam Bradford 2.0. Remember Brady missed a full year, tore his week 1 and didn't come back until the following year, and only played lightly in the following preseason. Palmer came back in 8 months after his first one. So honestly, who knows the timeline, they rush guys back, you know? I think best for his career to not play in a game until October, which means they'll have him back by August obv

It has been talked about time and time again that their record was almost entirely due to QB play. Why would he give a crap if a team had a bad record mostly due to crap QB play, when he is the possible incoming QB of said team? The Jets are an up and coming team, with a coach who got performance nobody expected. They are on the early stages of a rebuild, have jettisoned almost all of their baggage players, and have cap space and assets with a high pick this year. Their front office seems to be on the upswing as well. They are a very serious contender for cousins as well.

False. An LCL injury changes the recovery timeline by quite a bit. He tore multiple ligaments making his knee unstable in multiple directions. Multi ligament injuries have different rehab protocols and restrictions compared to single ligament injuries. Every single knee I have rehabbed that has involved multiple ligaments had absolutely taken longer to achieve full prior level of function. An ACL prevents anterior translation of the tibia in regards to the femur. This stability can be supplemented by over strengthening the hamstrings and gastrocnemius muscles. An LCL (or MCL) prevents lateral movement at the knee joint. LCL prevents a varus movement (knee bowing outward to the side) which there are no muscles which you can directly strengthen to help support this as you can with an ACL. You must just generally strength the knee in all directions while protecting the integrity of the joint and ligament repair. You are 100% wrong saying a multi ligament injury doesn't affect the timeline.

Yeah, even though he lacks common sense in a lot of situations (or maybe he's just overly emotional in the heat of the moment) and lacks true formal education, he's got brainpower and isn't a moron
-
Yeah, a lot of the kids issue is when they knock up multiple different women, and wind up paying their whole paycheck away in child support. Remember cromartie? The Jets had to front him $1.8 mil in advance salary the year they signed him just so child support services didn't put him in jail. The NBA started a few years back including sensible birth control/condom usage into their rookie orientation, and explaining the perils of knocking up multiple women lol
-
Yeah. I agree

Yeah it's a much better world for them now. Gronk claims he's banked his entire NFL earnings (some savings some invested) and just lives off his endorsements
