  1. Not to mention, the WCO Dennison is going to run needs guys that can get YAC, not necessarily catch a deep ball here and there. 2016 Matthews: #78 in NFL (all players) with 256 YAC and 3.5 YAC per reception Watkins: not listed in the top 300 players in the NFL 2015 Matthews: #23 with 433 YAC and 5.1 YAC per reception Watkins: #143 with 167 YAC and 2.8 YAC per reception 2014 Matthews: #26 with 426 YAC and 6.2 YAC per reception Watkins: #49 with 349 YAC and 5.4 YAC per reception Let me guess. Now YAC isn't important in the NFL... (Edit: source https://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/yards-after-the-catch/2016/) DeAndre Hopkins in 2015: "Sammy or somebody said, 'Look, bro, you and me last in YAC,'" Hopkins said. "We were first in balls over 40 yards. It kind of evens out. There's a lot of things I can get better at as an individual, knowing where defenders are, having a better awareness. Those are things I can work on." (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000636124/article/deandre-hopkins-wants-to-fix-his-yac-problem)
  2. Goodwin is a nobody, but we still considered him a deep threat last year, no? I think most fans did. You can keep ignoring that I'm conceding half of them aren't that talented if it makes you feel good, but I'll keep refuting I said it. For Matthews, I think you'll remember I posted this yesterday: "BTW for long catches (just by looking at the long for each game log and taking those 30+ yards): - Matthews has catches for 44, 40, 33, 30, 43, 78, 41, 30, 32, 33, 54, and 32 yards in his career - Watkins has catches for 43, 42, 35, 84, 30, 38, 37, 48, 47, 53, 48, 63, 39, 53, and 62 yards in his career" Streater has consistently made long catches in camp, but I'm sure the goal posts will be moved to not just guys who can do it while the pads are on, but against only 1s and only during regular season games. He's been more of an intermediate guy in the past couple years (catching a lot of 15-20 yard passes), but I'm assuming his catches of 26, 48, 27, 36, 66, 44, and 28 in 2013 are just too far back to count for anything. Same with 2012, there's no way his catches of 38, 58, 64, 25, or 23 mean anything. Zay Jones? He had catches of 33, 33, 26, 20, 21, 51, 39, and 77 at ECU last year, but I'm sure the excuse for that is he was only the most productive WR in college. The focus will be that he played against West Carolina, UCF, USF, UConn, Tulsa, and SMU, not Stanford, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, Navy, and Temple. Just because Watkins is really fast, doesn't mean other WRs don't get to be fast too.
  3. What are you disagreeing with? Either: (1) That I said we have guys that can go deep: Matthews (4.46), Jones (4.45), Streater (4.37), Brown (4.37), Lewis (4.46), Ross (4.36)? or (2) That I said Brown, Lewis, and Ross are not super talented? ("Not arguing Brown, Lewis, or Ross are super talented." - Me)
  4. "Majority of his catches were in short to medium routes, so deep ball was rarely utilized." https://www.underdogdynasty.com/2017/4/19/15346206/2017-nfl-draft-profile-zay-jones-east-carolina-pirates-wide-receiver-aac-combine-measurements-ecu
  5. It's a shame we don't get to see any Matthews vs. Darby for this match-up.
  6. Was just refuting that we have no one to go deep. Not arguing Brown, Lewis, or Ross are super talented.
  7. 100% believe Patriots* organization is Winning Culture Exhibit A
  8. I don't remember Watkins lowering his head to pick up a 1st down. He's talented, but that doesn't mean he's one for contact or going over the middle.
  9. I would like to see: - Taylor rip the ball to a TE in the middle of the field for about 15 yards by throwing him open - Williams continue to produce and hang onto the ball - Boldin catch some passes - Jones do the same and look like Boldin - Streater to look like his camp reports - Dawkins at LT (although apparently not going to happen) - the same from Yarbrough as last week - Ragland hit someone like his highlight tapes - Gaines
  10. Philly Brown ran a 4.37 Dez Lewis ran a 4.4-5 Rashad Ross ran in the 4.3s No speed
  11. So me thinking that an injury prone WR might not be well-suited for going over the middle and taking hits, and the 7-game streak of poor performance pointed out earlier in the thread is cherry-picking... but a GIF of Watkins catching an out on a guy who is as of right now unemployed? Proof he's physical. OK. Sure. Does Watkins really strike you as a WR who relies on the physicality of his game?
  12. You're not going to like this... but injury history. Plus, his game is more about finesse than contact.
  13. Matthews' career: 346 targets, 225 catches (1.54 targets/catch) Watkins' career: 276 targets, 153 catches (1.8 targets/catch) BTW for long catches (just by looking at the long for each game log and taking those 30+ yards): - Matthews has catches for 44, 40, 33, 30, 43, 78, 41, 30, 32, 33, 54, and 32 yards in his career - Watkins has catches for 43, 42, 35, 84, 30, 38, 37, 48, 47, 53, 48, 63, 39, 53, and 62 yards in his career I think he would struggle going over the middle. Great on the outside though.
  14. I think the focus on "big play ability" is telling. Do we want long TDs? Sure. We've got guys who run in the 4.3s and 4.4s who can provide that. What we really need though is "consistent play ability" meaning the guy who might not be flashy, but who is performs like he should week in and week out. It's the seasonal luxury sports car vs. daily reliable car debate. I like getting from point A to point B every day, not just 50-75% of them.
  15. Right? Those who like the trade are at least willing to say that Watkins has more natural talent, but those who oppose it seem unable to grasp the importance of availability and it's impact on production. Back to the issue though, there's no way any of Matthews, Jones, or Streater can run a fly against an NFL corner...
  16. But YPC! Matthews just can't go against NFL corners. Only Watkins can do that.
  17. Does this mean you don't view the 40 as an effective way to measure speed? Obviously the guys have to be able to play, too, but Matthews has already shown he can, Streater had a good camp, and Jones was the most productive WR in college football the past 4 years.
  18. Wonder if they told him about the injury misdiagnosis and asked, "You mad, Breaux?"
  19. Streater: 4.37 Watkins: 4.43 Jones: 4.45 Matthews: 4.46
  20. 16 games? I'd say 65-70 catches, 900-1000 yards, and 7-8 TDs
  21. Divas typically produce memoirs eventually, so we may know once that gets released.
  22. Apparently the Westin has robot-delivered room service... if that's a deal maker or breaker.
