I think a big slot given his speed and slight build.  I'm not sure where he goes in the lineup, actually.  Wouldn't mind him in the 2nd round, but at 28 would hope for a X type #1 WR.  Wouldn't mind actually getting Thomas, JR. then instantly trading back into the 2nd to grab Worthy.  He seems like a great "toy/gadet" type WR.

I would be surprised if both do not go in the first round

I’m all for the pick if Beane decides to go with Worthy. I feel like we’ve been chasing that type of player for awhile with Smoke, Sanders, Stevenson, McKenzie, and Harty. At this point I feel like it’s probably one of Worthy, Legette, or Franklin (even if I didn’t like his combine measurements/performance). Mitchell and Thomas Jr will most likely be gone.

This! And I think he would be better than any of them in that role.

Curious why on Brown?  He is always hurt or playing through an injury.

He is an exceptional blocker though in the running game.

it would be a real tough sell to give precious free agent money to an always something guy when it comes to injuries

Seems to fill that bigger WR role lacking otherwise in that room. To me he would replace Davis but project as sharing WR3/4 with Shakir.

I will say I am not familiar with his injury history. Maybe that makes him cheap? I recall him being pretty productive last year, but do see he missed their Wild Card game, so yeah I would want medicals to check out.

Also like Reynolds from DET in FA.

You would literally have to have intimate knowledge on the way they are coached nowadays individually to properly determine if it's true or not that a player is taking downs off because some coaches are coaching them to do it in order to preserve energy for the next down. They know when the ball is not coming to them. And if that's the case it's the easiest thing in the world to fix. You just tell them that's not the way we do it around here and here is why... Then you point to #17... B-)

Yeah that’s what I think it was cover1’s podcast was discussing. Again, it was re: Mitchell though not Worthy. And I’m not sure if it was because a coach said to or just because the way their plays are called he “knew” he did not need to do anything being so far from the play. I know Mitchell said he does not always run routes full speed, but not sure if this came indirectly from him, too.

    But yes really easy fix!

It's the same deal as Mitchell. They both just flat out don't run their routes an alarming amount of the time, cut routes off early, give zero effort blocking, etc. And it isn't just when the plays are being run to the other side of the field. This is obviously bad just in general, but it's especially bad to pair that up with a QB like Allen who extends plays and tries to find guys to throw the ball to on the run.

Thanks, can you please point me toward where you saw these plays being taken off? Would like to watch them.

Worthy looks fast, but in these highlights I didn't get the feeling he looked Tyreek Hill fast. Maybe Hill’s agility/quickness is better which makes him look faster.

Really? He is wide open on a lot of them and on a few others just turns the corner around defenders. I think what I like about Worthy is his ability to decelerate, which I think is what also makes Hill so dangerous.

They both take a lot of plays off.

Watched one of those Buffalo podcasts yesterday (I think cover1) and someone said that was common in their offense (he was talking about Mitchell) because their plays often went to one side of the field.

Can you please provide more details about what you’ve seen with Worthy taking plays off?

Edit: I urge people concerned about his work ethic to watch Worthy’s recovered fumble play from the video I noted in my above post.

  7. Going to keep banging the Worthy drum. The more I watch, the more I see how complete his game has been throughout college working with different QBs against top competition. Wins all over the field with not just speed but also incredible route running and even some nice contested catches. The below video is worth a watch. Love his hustle at a little after 17 minutes to recover a fumble after his CB intercepted an underthrown ball. (Also, I think Jordan Whittington, the guy who caused that fumble and was Texas’ third WR option, is a decent mid-to-late-round prospect. Reminds me of a bigger Shakir.)

Edit: Also beginning to like Tahj Washington out of USC. Anyone have opinions on him?

It isn't listed in PFF's premium stats, but their draft guide includes "Open Target %". Of course many factors can influence this such as the routes they're running, the coverage they're facing, etc. It's easier to get open finding a soft spot in a zone vs. working open against man coverage for example. If you're running a ton of crossers across the middle, you're bound to run into traffic more often than a curl route against soft coverage. If you're the focus of the defense, you'll probably have a harder time getting open than the #3 target on your team. Having said that, here's where everyone ranked:

    Name Open Target %
    Tahj Washington 89%
    Malachi Corley 86%
    Jordan Whittington 86%
    Lideatrick Griffin 84%
    Xavier Worthy 84%
    Jacob Cowing  83%
    Ladd McConkey 82%
    Brian Thomas Jr. 80%
    Jalen McMillan 79%
    Malik Washington 79%
    Troy Franklin 77%
    Marvin Harrison Jr. 77%
    Jamari Thrash 77%
    Ricky Pearsall 75%
    Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint 73%
    Devontez Walker 73%
    Jermaine Burton 72%
    Xavier Legette 69%
    Brenden Rice 66%
    Malik Nabers 64%
    Ja'Lynn Polk 64%
    Rome Odunze 61%
    Adonai Mitchell 58%
    Ainias Smith 56%
    Keon Coleman 53%
    Johnny Wilson 51%

Wow thank you this is great. Confirmation bias for me liking Worthy and being concerned about how often Coleman is making contested catches. Did not know it was so rough for Mitchell. Going to have to look further into those other guys at the top.

Are there any examples of very successful WRs who are Worthy's height and weight — 165 lb at over 5'11"?

I though he was 178 but that 165 number is not sitting well with me...

Marquise Brown as a rookie was 5’9”, 166 lbs, and ran 4.27.

The reason Zay was productive as he was he wasn't competing for balls in Baltimore. That's what people fail to look when look at performance.  Most of Gabe's numbers came early before Kincaid became a more focal point of the offense. Zay had 26 more targets but less receiving yards and TDs than Gabe. So how is this an improvement? Toss in he doesn't have the size Gabe has. I'll admit at 28 the guy I like is Legette yet not sure he'll be as good as Gabe last year but he has a bigger upside than Gabe as he's faster.

Zay had Andrews as the primary target for a while and he actually had more yards than Davis. Not sure I like Legette at 28 but I do like him as a prospect in general.

    5'11'' 165

Do you think he can fill the void of being a #2 for the Bills?

Does not seem to be a good outlook and track record for guys being drafted that light from what I have read and the information I have looked at.

I do think he can be a WR2, but I am not as hung up on WR2 vs. WR3 and X vs Y vs Z for the position as others. I think he can come in and be as productive as Zay Flowers (5’9”, 182 lbs, 4.42 at Combine).

I see him as just needing to put on 5-10 pounds over his first couple seasons.

Marquise Brown (5’9”, 166 lbs, 4.27 at Pro Day), DeSean Jackson (6’0”, 178 lbs, 4.27 at Combine), and Devonta Smith (6’0”, 175 lbs, 4.54) are also each somewhat comparable.

Plus the college production is there.
