The Best Bills offensive Plays of 2019
GoBills808 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think 'we' are quite at the point where 'we' can be worrying about style points. I'd point you to the games between 11/24 and 12/21 as evidence the team is on the right track. -

The Best Bills offensive Plays of 2019

Sad that the offense performs best under pressure? Hmmmm -
I would have taken more issue w/ 'wildcard contention level' tbh We had wildcard wrapped up, we were contending for the division and a first round bye this season whether they'll admit it or not

Only cause this went over and over during reg season, but there is a fundamental lack of understanding about how the interior dline operates in McD's scheme Lotulelei does a ton of stuff that not only doesn't show up on stat sheet but gets missed by almost every casual fan...shuffle and bridge to engage and free up another DT, downblock and open gap for LB control, lines up offset to play immediate double for twists/stunts...if the dline is the engine he's like the serpentine belt. Everything kind of rotates in conjunction w his work. Oliver is going to be the crankshaft that can do it all but he needs more experience. Phillips is like a turbo, super fun but nonessential.

And then factor in how dependent stats like passer rating and the like are upon comp% This is why I can safely disregard people who harp on statistics because they don't seem to understand the simple facts of what you posted. I have written these exact words several times. It's also why when Booger McFarlane and Joe Tessitore are in the booth and seeing Allen play for what I have to imagine is the first time vs the Texans they sound incredulous that he isn't falling to pieces...because they don't watch Bills games and are viewing him based purely on statistics that were influenced to an outsized degree on the offensive talent around him. The point being as per usual: if you don't understand statistical analysis or how certain 'ratings' are calculated you are going to have a very hard time grading Allen last season.

Proposal: New NFL Combine Tests/Drills

Bill Belichick doesn’t have it figured out. But Pro Football Focus does? They can provide a grade on every play? and Lastly, I hesitate to bring this part up, but part of me wonders the qualifications for doing this work. It feels like me taking a job to to play-by-play film breakdown on the Premier League. What are the football coaching or scouting backgrounds for these UK analysts making these grades? Is there anyone on staff with an NFL background? Bolded my emphasis because I did not realize PFF was based in the UK and therefore, unless they are importing film graders from the US, they likely lack the experience of even a DI college player in the states. They lack a ton. They are Cain Fahey level insignificant.

And don't forget they actually did run the QB sweep again in OT that would have likely set up the game winning FG attempt at the very least and may have broke for a TD if blocks aren't missed They clearly identified stuff that was going to work against Texans defense and built it in, the scouting/design was good but the gameplan imo went to ***** after halftime

Likely in that situation he is given a package and the kill just moves on to the next play. It's not as if he's just calling his shot out there. And when you look at the personnel grouping you can see Morse ID the mike and Allen scan to count DBs, sees that Texans were in nickel so it's a logical check that is likely built into the progression presnap. As far as the play itself goes, to me it looks like if Smith and Williams don't get their blocks confused Gore has a chance of breaking one. Still don't like the playcall but the reason it was run has more to do with Daboll than Allen imo

No one wants the team to win any less, either. Some people just don't feel the need to B word about the QB constantly.

Goff maybe, but Gurley is a stud in his own right. -

You never liked Gurley? Even when he was the focal point of the NFL's hottest offense in 2017 and '18? -

I guess that's the difference, then. You say life is complicated and I don't, when it comes to this kind of stuff. YOU made it a point to bring up the good Catholics who are lumped in with the bad ones. That is YOUR comparison. I don't need one: I can safely say ***** the Catholic Church and their followers who have the unmitigated gall to feel some indignation about the reasons why that might be the case.
