What would it (realistically) take to get Alex Smith?
mjd1001 replied to NickelCity's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not 100% against Smith in Buffalo. I'd take him for a year or two. I have heard opinions from a few people that he is slightly better than Tyrod. I'd take that. The question is, for what? a 4th rounder or lower. Picks in rounds 1-3 I expect contributions from in year 1. a 4th..not so much..so that is what I'd give up for Smith. Anything more than a 4th....let whoever is offering that take him. -
Why I Think the Smart Move is Pay to Get Cousins
mjd1001 replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its saying the same thing over and over..but with Cousins, it is all about how much you have to pay for him. 4 years and $70 million or less. Wow, great move for the Bills, sign me up and use those top 4 picks to fill other holes. 5 years $120 millon.....Eh....I think it is overpaying but it is the market rate I guess....OK with it. 7 years $180 million...no way. -
When Was the Last Time It Looked This Good?
mjd1001 replied to Fadingpain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can't answer your question directly, but I can say I think this team might take a 'step back' next year BEFORE becoming a very good team in 2019..not because of the coach, but the Roster: -DL Williams might not be back, and if he is, his age dictates he will be slowing down. Jerry Hughes hasn't been the same player for 3+ years, and he will be one year older too. Those 2 won't be as good as even this year, and who else do you have? -LB I can honestly say that without MAJOR moves, this may be one of the worst LB crews in the league. -Secondary. They were pretty good this year, so I would expect the same next year. MAYBE better if they stay 100% healthy -WR Well, its as close to a tire-fire group as you can have. An improved Jones and a Healthy Benjamin get you to an 'average' WR group...maybe? OL. Your only 2 guys who are good are Wood and Incognito. Both are on the downside of their career...you are going to get the same or slightly worse out of them. 3 other huge question marks on the line. I'm not sure Glenn will be here (doubt it) but if he is...injury prone for sure. RB. McCoy had a really good year, but same as many above, he isnt' getting younger. You can HOPE he doesn't slow down (and you get the same player as this year) but I think you might start to see signs of him slowing. Nothing behind him. TE. Decent group..but can you expect a full 16 games out of Clay? QB....if, IF they can strike gold and get a MAJOR improvement here, this will be the ticket to the playoffs again. Good/Great QB play and a great secondary get you there next year...other than that...I see a major step back in 2018 just because of roster concerns. -
I'm with you on this. Do I think Peterman will be a star in this league? Probably not. Do I think there is a chance..and a chance that he can be a very good start in the NFL? Yep, I think there is a chance. Draft a QB next year, bring in a vet, and have them compete with Peterman.
-
I don't hate Taylor..but he is what he is...an average to slightly below average starting QB. Can you win some games with him...maybe a playoff game? Sure, but to be a true superbowl contender, you need better. I'll take any new guys because I know what I have now is not good enough.
-
I really don't see any problem with the play calling...its just they plays aren't working because of a lot of lack of talent? Take the exact same playcalls but with a better QB, and the result is a lot better.

What did you do when the Bengals scored that TD
mjd1001 replied to CaptnCoke11's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I checked twitter right away. I was happy, but more curious what the response of others was. -
What would have to happen for me to want the Bills to keep Tyrod next year... -The bills win the final 2 games of the regular season, make the playoffs, and win at least one game int he playoffs. -In doing all of that, Tyrod has the best 3-4 game stretch of his career so far. -Brady and Big Ben both retire or have injuries that will not allow them to play next year. Then again, even WITH all that, I'm not sure if I want him here. I don't think he is awful, but the QB next year is going to have to carry this team if you want to make the playoffs, there are too many holes on the roster that are going to need to be filled, and a lot of current players are getting older and not likely to be as good.

It LOOKS like right now the snow will be coming in from the south. Pre-game and at kickoff, light snow maybe...but should be getting a little harder as the game goes on. I don't think it will impact the game until the 2nd half at least, but it will make getting out of that stadium really fun after dark.

Who do you want to start this week, Peterman or Taylor?
mjd1001 replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Peterman, for the rest of the season please. -
Are the Bills bad or just not really good?
mjd1001 replied to PlayoffsPlease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You have a couple elite teams in the NFL, you have a couple of terrible teams in the NFL. Most of the rest of the other teams are pretty much the same, that could to anywhere from 6-10 to 10-6...based on the schedule and luck and a couple of other minor factors. The Bills, like usual, are once again one of those middle teams. -
I agree with the thread. Well, I don't think the Bills are terrible, but they are average at best. But when you play another team what is playing as bad as you are, you have a shot to win. Winning games like this (against 70% of the NFL) can/will get you to the playoffs though.
-
I'm fine with the decision to go back to Taylor. I also want to see Peterman again for a prolonged period of time. If the Bills lose the next two...or if they lose against the Cheifs and Tyrod looks awful, I'll be ready for Peterman for the rest of the season.
-
With KC and New England coming up, it looks like the Bills have a real shot at allowing 200+ points in a 5 game stretch. When was the last time a team did that?
-
If I were an owner, I would be happy with the job Goodell has done overall and would want him back. How he handles the player protests is a tough one. He kinda has to walk the tightrope...by doing so he gets 'both' sides unhappy with him, but if he picks one side...there will be a total revolt. HOWEVER, if what he is asking for to get paid is true...I'd have some reservations. Not that the owners can't afford it....but it looks like he is doing this as a 'golden parachute' of sorts for when/if he is shown the door. Jerry Jones...Daniel Snyder...I have zero respect for. Kraft is slightly better than those 2.

Every Nate Peterman throw from the Saints game
mjd1001 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What I'd like to know is...from someone who knows more about football than me... A.) How much time did Peterman have to throw against that 'prevent' garbage time D? Versus how much time did Taylor have throughout the game. b.) How much seperation did the WR's have from the DB's when Peterman made the throw? And did Taylor have similar option (WR's had similar seperation from DB's) and he checked down to McCoy or Tolbert? -
I agree with this 100%. If Peterman plays and loses, at least it is something different. I know what I get with Taylor..and to me what I get is bored. With that said, I want to see Peterman play. However, I can't blame the coaching staff much if they don't play him right now..I don't expect it. If the Bills lose 2 of the next 3 (or all 3), then at THAT point I would expect Peterman to start vs the Colts. If that doesn't happen, THAT is when I'll be really upset.
-
I understand the Saints were probably in a big-time prevent defense, and didn't show a lot of complex looks to Peterman. I also know that he made some nice throws..throws with D-men in his face that Taylor rarely makes. I want to see more of Peterman as the season progresses.
-
I admit the D-line is worse, and of course has less depth without him. However, in the long run I think they are better off without him and his contract. Still happy with the move in the long run.

I don't watch the NFL as much as I used to either, but it isn't because of too many commercials..and the protest don't bother me either. -There is nothing I see now that I haven't seen before. In my first 10 year or so of watching the NFL, it seemed like everytime I watched a game there would be something new. A run unlike any other...a great catch...a comeback that I had never seen before. But now, simply because of watching so many games...it all seems the same. Different names on the back of the uniforms, but that is all. -I do not like the media coverage. No-one in particular (maybe ESPN, but everyone is doing it), but I'm tired of the shows that have to have 2 guys yelling and arguing over a topic. I'm tired of every discussion about who is the 'best QB ever' or every 5 or 6 years someone says "this is the best Defense ever'. I KNOW that stuff actually GETS ratings, but if I do sit down, I just want to watch the game and listen to some in-depth analysis (I liked the old "NFL matchup" with Jaworski and Hoge, where they actually broke down the film and talked strategy---90% of the media coverage is going away from that and to arguments/discussions or fantasy football related.

Bills improve to 5-2 w/ "boring" win (article)
mjd1001 replied to BigDingus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I loved the win, but I'm glad people post things like this to be honest. After a loss I don't need EVERY post to be negative, and after a win I don't need EVERY post to be positive. -
Trade Deadline: Who do you want to see added ?
mjd1001 replied to Jamie Muellers Ghost's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. I'm not sure you can get much of anyone right now that will step in and help this team considerably. A great DT or a great Rushing DE or LB are probably the most easily integrated into the system at this time of the year, but don't think any really good ones will be available for offer. -
This offseason Quarterback options
mjd1001 replied to The Now Moment's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem for those who want the Bills to draft a QB in the first round is....how many teams that are just as desperate (maybe more desperate now) for a QB might be picking in front of the Bills? Of those teams, is it likely they will pick a QB? San Fran? Yes. Cleveland? Yes. Giants, a strong maybe. Colts? probably not unless a major trade comes down. Bengals? Possibly. Bucs, No. Cardinals? Yes. Ravens? maybe. Jets, Yes. Chargers, possibly. Broncos, probably, Redskins, maybe, Jags, probably. Standings can change, but there might be 5 or 6 teams AT LEAST that will be picking in front of the Bills with getting their QB of the future a top priority. -
We could go 11-5 and it's not all that crazy.
mjd1001 replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really don't see anything much better than 8-8....and with any more injuries....that is unlikely to happen. It is sad to say, but even with a winning record now, I'm almost more interested in seeing any hints as to what is going to happen next year. Will Matthews be resigned at WR? Is Cordy Glenn going to be gone (along with Dareus)? Will Peterman get a chance or is he just a clipboard holder for a high draft pick next year? With Kyle Williams and Dareus likely gone next year....how do they fill that HUGE hole in the DL (add to that Jerry Hughes isn't getting any younger/better) I'm actually very interested in seeing moves made sooner than later for next year. If the Bills happen to make the playoffs this year..then great. I just think there is about a 10% chance of that happening. -
I put out my idea because it seems like there are a lot of people around here who are sure he is elite...if not on the field..at least elite talent....thinking as soon as he is in a good offense, hes putting up 100 catch, 1500 yard seasons. My thought is he might be a max 70-80 catch, 1200 yard guy and that is it.
