  1. Yes, in this case it will be. You know a long-term deal will be a hell of a lot more than a Franchise tag. You think he'd be happy with being Franchised?
  2. I think putting the Franchise tag on him would really tick him off. It was supposed to be a one year prove it deal. He came through, Franchising rather than offering a long-term contract would be a slap in the face. He could refuse to play under it and force their hand. Not that he seems like the kind of guy but that's brutal treatment IMO.
  3. All day. If Washington doesn't offer him the money he wants then definitely make a big offer and try and get him. It's 90% likely they'll give him what he wants now. Maybe they'll be able to get a few mill lower but unlikely.
  4. Would you take him much cheaper though? I don't want him at an expensive contract either. That's a decent player or 2 we can sign with that money. If he would take a lot less i would do it. Though, if I'm him I'm thinking that based on my stats some duma$$ GM will throw some money at him. Probably the Jets! He may not be great but he'd be an improvement for them.
  5. Is it possible to resign TT to a cheaper dollar amount? Would we have to waive and resign or anything like that? If we could get him at a much cheaper rate, and he's earned that unfortunately, it would be fine. Otherwise I'm drafting a QB. Rounds 1-2. If he can't get the ball out sooner he's doomed. What? Have you seen him? He's beyond awful. And they shelter the crap out of him. No. At that point promote EJ. EJ >Petty all day.
  6. I'm embarrassed to say I thought signing Rex would be a good idea. The part that kills me is the defense not working. The overall concept of the team wasn't bad, they were looking to be an even more run heavy team that Seattle I think. The defense has been a huge disappointment. Injuries or not Rex has a lot to explain with the D not working. They should have changed the defensive strategy when they saw how bad the teams safeties are. Rex is not flexible enough to be an effective NFL coach. I think you have to let him go on the basis of the Defense. Where to go from there, I'm not sure. I wanted continuity but I'm convinced that keeping the current regime would be bad continuity and no playoffs again.
  7. Don't let up! The Raiders canot get 2 TDs real quick.
  8. There's no way, none, that he is better than Cousins. Even if you think he is overrated Cousins would still be better than Cutler. The rest is mostly true in my estimation. I also think Cutler would be good as a back-up if he'd agree to that pay. I doubt he would or will, someone will offer him stupid money.
  9. Eh, I don't mind as long as their not being a distraction. Mind you, criticism and distraction aren't the same thing in my book. Fisher sucks. That team has a lot of talent and they are one good draft away from being extremely good. It's a shame they'll have that joker running the show. Actually that's starting to sound a little familiar...
  10. They should definitely rest him for the stretch run.
  11. It's just one example of many. I think that's what the poster is getting at not so much dissecting this particular play.
  12. They may be telling him to play very conservative. We all see the hesitancy to take risks. The question is, is that because he's more interested in good stats or coaching giving that direction?
  13. The extended plays where TT couldn't find an open receiver were infuriating. If the receivers are not open on those plays he needs to throw down and be all over them for not doing enough. If they are open, which I think they are for the most part, then he needs to do a better job finding them. It's like he's on the cusp of being a really good quarterback but at the same time the things holding him back are very basic. Identifying open receivers quickly is another weakness for him.
  14. One thing I think screws up Tyrod is the receivers on those plays he extends. When I watch games from other teams those extended plays usually result in a receiver or 2 being wide open. Our receiving crew isn't doing a good job getting open on those extended plays, that should be a major focus every practice since it's one of his best attributes. To say TT is better than Mariotta, Cousins or Eli is pretty much nuts. It's cherry picking the stats IMO. Concentrating too much on TD/INT ration I think. I'm not a TT hater, I think he's slightly better than average but that would improve if we focused our offense more on his strengths more.
  15. 10-6 I think would see us in the playoffs as the last seed, a lot of those teams ahead of us play each other. We all know that could be wrong but if we win 1 of the tough 2 remaining games and win the ones we "should" we'd get by and get in I think. I consider 10-6 as a minor success if we don't make the playoffs and major if we do. It's a good record in this league. That said I don't see it happening. If they were to play at their best every game i could see us only losing one but we throw awful efforts out nearly every other game-day (including last week). The most frustrating part from my POV is that the coaching staff dismantled a successful defensive system to replace it for one that is worse. Rex and crew didn't have the foresight to stick with what was working and instead had to install "their system", which clearly is not better with the players we have. The best coaches mold their system around the players strengths and not the other way around.
  16. He was signing an autograph for me recently and I asked when his turn at the Hall was coming. He said he didn't think it would happen that Special Teams just wasn't considered important enough to get him through. He really was amazing, I was young then but I can't think of any player since that had so many big plays on the coverage side of the ST game.
  17. The offense was really good last night, the amount of first downs and passing yards was great. The problem is the defense and that falls directly on Rex. He had a top defense and decided his scheme would be better than what was already working. If he had kept Shwartz where would we be now? So disappointing, if it's not one thing it's another. Doomsday people i see are saying 5-11 and eternal optimists 11-5. All that means is 8-8 here we come.
  18. 1 better than Tyrod eh? lol
  19. Nothing official but I've heard Carr was quite a DB coming up. In my limited exposure he's seemed like a great guy but you never know. I also wouldnt say that Kelly can't read coverages, he did it all last year. His problem IMHO is just trying to force it when he knows better. His teams have had a decent amount of big leads but when the tide starts turning and he starts losing momentum he starts taking big risks. That can be coached.
  20. To me, Kelly is like an unstable version Brett Favre. At the slightest hint of a momentum shift he tries desperately trying to get it back right away instead of taking what a defense gives him. If he can get a good QB coach that teaches patience I think he can improve significantly. Cardale can improve with the same I just don't think the accuracy is there in his case. Kelly definitely has that over him he just makes way too many asinine throws to be trusted right now. Teach him some patience and i think he'll be very good. Time will tell. I'd say the percentages are against him.
  21. Whoa I respectfully disagree. Cardale has the tools to be an OK back-up, if he can learn to read a defense he can maybe make something of himself with that monster arm. Kelly's been running an offense much closer to a pro style. While his stats this year are sub-par his stats last year were excellent. He will be drafted unless there are huge concerns over his knee (and there shouldn't be he got blasted on that play). I know the concern of nostalgia with the Kelly name clouding judgement but I see a lot of positives with this kid. I know the negatives, he's a hothead both on and off the field. He's got some growing up to do for sure. He's a gunslinger though. I doubt he comes to buffalo in the end but I hope we give him a chance to be groomed. A nice back-up competition with Cardale and we can get a glimpse of what he can do. What do we have to lose? If we're fairly sure he'll fall to the 4th grab him there I say.
  22. He was thought by some to be a potential 1st round pick before this year started and his team imploded. He was in a tough position playing better teams almost every week. He tried so hard to win he'd start forcing things once their defense lagged (or he threw a bad pick while the momentum was swinging). He could be a great quarterback if he learns to play smart. This is the biggest homer thing I've said but them to take a chance on him. Let him learn the game from a year or two. We need a passing quarterback. The biggest thing is reads, I think he's already able to go through his progressions a bit but he'd need to get much better and smarter with picking his throws.
  23. Pats 41 Bills 24. Pats run it up big to start, Bills get some points in garbage time. I hope/wish the Bills would figure out a blitz scheme that the Pat's can't block and stop their offense but the Pats quick throwing attack is tough for us to defend. Need our entire defense to step up big time and TT to work some magic.
  24. Yeah. I also think had Kaep been close to decent as a passer we would have been exposed quite a bit more. Luckily he's terrible. I think we find another CB and move on, wish him the best. If he agrees to a reasonable contract then keep him. By no means am i basing this off of one play, i just see him beat way too much to call him elite and that's the money he will command. It's a good point but who have we played so far? New England's 3rd stringer and Collin Kaepernick's first game back have accounted for 1/3 of our season so far. The one time someone strictly game-planned to beat us in the air the Jet's hurt us bad. I want to believe you're right. New England will be such a big test.
  25. Kap is inaccurate. That's my astute observation of the day.
