At this point it's obvious what the Dolphins are doing, and a few other teams are definitely in yard sale mode. If the league wants to prevent teams from sandbagging themselves for a high draft pick, what are they to do? The current system rewards failure, but middling teams who could make the leap with high end talent end up stuck on the 6 to 8 win treadmill (As we Bills fans know all too well.) How about this for a concept: 1. In 4 years, eliminate the draft as we know it. This will work all the traded picks that currently exist out of the system. 2. Install an auction style system in its place. Every team already has a salary cap, so every team would still have a budget. Since we basically spend 4 months ranking these guys anyway, develop a consensus computer ranking system 1-250. Have the same show on draft weekend, starting with the #1 guy, but every team with cash to spend can bid on who they need, one player at a time, just focus on the player instead of the drafting team for 15 minutes. By doing this there's no incentive to fail, you still have to spend wisely, and the fans still have hope that their team can get quality players. I believe the NFL could make a good show of it, and with all the cap rules currently in place a team couldn't just dump all their guys and buy half the first round. Any thoughts?

How to beat the Patriots??? RUN
Samwell Tarly replied to Tatonka68's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How to beat the Patriots? 1. No turnovers. None. Zero. 2. NO STUPID PENALTIES!! 3. Sustain drives. Run if that works for you, but move the chains, eat the clock. Get points out of as many as possible and pin them deep when you can't. 4. Get in Brady's face early and often. If you can knock him around without drawing a flag, do it. He's a rythm passer and you have to break his concentration. 5. NEVER let up. I don't care if you are ahead 40 to 0. No lead is safe. -

Feels like Ramsey to bills an option...
Samwell Tarly replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ramsey has undeniable talent, but has also gotten some personal fouls and ejections at inopportune moments. Plus his technique isn't a fit for the Bills' system. Not to mention, if his previous comments are any indication, he has zero interest in playing for Buffalo. -
Would you change team name if you had the power?
Samwell Tarly replied to BrycePaup4ever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey, I never said the guy was a saint, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if there was eventually a call to rename the team. All I was trying to say is at least it's not a literal racial slur. -

As long as the Redskins still exist, no one should be complaining about the Bills. Although if a name change became necessary, Bison or Stampede make the most sense without changing everything. -
Incredible talent + fan worship +media exposure divided by short career window. Also consider your destiny is inexorably tied to your qb.

What this Bills season is all about & nobody says it!
Samwell Tarly replied to PUNT750's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, much of the potential success of this season hinges on Josh Allen. I understand the accuracy concerns, there's no denying that. If you don't trust Allen, who do you replace him with? There are journeyman veterans who might achieve a higher completion percentage, but that's only part of the equation. They drafted Allen on his immense physical potential. Yes, he has been inaccurate, but If he can correct his mistakes, he has the physical talent to surpass any of the also-rans from off the street. It's a gamble, but if it pays off, we can all laugh at our concerns in a few years. -
Go BPA, unless the guy is a total mismatch for your system or you're totally stacked at that position. Luckily the Bills aren't absolutely desperate for any one thing this time so they can manuever around a little to get who they like. There's a bunch of D line guys in their range this year, and with Kyle retiring, that choice makes a lot of sense. IMO, they could use a blue chip talent in several places on this team. For a high first rounder I would focus on D line, O line, or CB. If they trade down then open it up to include LB or WR .

Can the Bills wait past the 3rd Rd for a RB ?
Samwell Tarly replied to PUNT750's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fix your offensive line and passing game first. Running backs in teams that have good lines and spread the ball around effectively don't need to be highly paid superstars to be successful. Also it's a high risk injury position so putting too much investment in one player here usually doesn't pan out. Third, look at the recent history of the league. When was the last time you saw a feature rb dominant team win the Super bowl? Several cheaper rbs behind a strong line is a better strategy than trying to find the next great one. -
My Hypothetical Julio Jones Trade....Yes or No?
Samwell Tarly replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills need a #1 receiver, Julio Jones qualifies. If they want a big name, either him or AJ Green are interesting. Neither will come cheap, though. -
Most Boring Super Bowl Ever?
Samwell Tarly replied to /dev/null's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, the Niners / Chargers blowout was worse. San Diego was dead before the end of the first Quarter. Also Niners blowout of Denver was a joke. Seattle's destruction of Denver also not entertaining. Plus the First Bills/ Dallas super bowl was excruciating. More fun when it's actually a contest, even a low scoring one. -
The off-season I want to see? 1. Brady retires. 2. Belichick retires. 3. Get significant upgrades at WR and offensive line positions. By any means necessary. 4. Dolphins tank for rebuild. 5. Did I mention Brady retires? 6. Find young, viable replacements for Shady and Ivory.

Not a big fan of trading down here...the Bills could use elite talent on D as well, but I understand the urgency on offense. Perhaps free agency would be the place to get some o-line or wr help if its just not there in round 1. I know we need oranges, but if the apples are in season, pick apples, not substandard oranges. Unless someone gives you a crazy good offer for your pick.
