If you are a person who stops and picks up hitch-hikers, I would advise against it in general - but I can understand wanting to do someone a favor. But please pass the guy wearing blood-stained clothes, carrying a sword, hatchet, and bloody chainsaw. Just a friendly bit of advice. "... carrying a homemade sword, a hatchet, a knife, brass knuckles and a chain saw stained with what appeared to be blood ... Despres hitchhiked to the border crossing."

Obviously a result of breeding (if you can call it that) for the characteristics that are incompatible with a family pet. It can happen with any breed, just so much more dangerous with powerful ones. When I was a child, it was German Shepards and Dobermans that had the bad name. Well bred, properly trained pit bulls are as much a joy to be around as other breeds. Unfortunately, there has been so much emphasis on breeding aggressive antisocial traits that it becomes more difficult to find a good dog of this breed. I would not expect to get "lucky" with a good one from the pound, as you could with a breed that hasn't been targeted by idiots. And when they're bad, the damage they can cause is much worse than a breed that doesn't have the same physical prowess. If chihuahua's were 90-100lbs full grown, they would be on the news for the damage they cause. They're not, because you can drop-kick them. But I'll bet there's quite a few that are aggressive and anti-social because they come from a poor bloodline and are poorly trained. It's just not newsworthy because they can't do the damage a larger dog can.

I had to watch a second time to see the new/old uniforms. The cheerleaders shaking it distracted me. Enjoyed both viewings; thanks.

Any Star Wars People OUT THERE!

"Any Star Wars People OUT THERE" - LOL - dude, all of us Star Wars people are OUT THERE! -
So Newsweek was right after all
Terry Tate replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
No, I'm not splitting hairs. Newsweek specifically reported guards had flushed a Quran down the toilet - a charge which was not true, and Newseek admitted they had no proof of this when they retracted the story. "Now the FBI and the Pentagon confirm this"??! The official reports shows a pattern of respectful treatment - the guard who urinated on the air vent, causing it to land on a Quran? He admitted it, and was removed from any post that would come in contact with detainees. In case you missed it the first time - THE REPORT DOCUMENTS MORE INCIDENTS OF MISHANDLING OF THE QURAN BY DETAINEES THAN GUARDS. Who the f**k cares? I would, if I thought there was actually something to be concerned about. -

I think you're guilty of not reading the whole article. The report confirms five incidents of guards mishandling the Quran (which AI apparently believes qualifies it for "gulag" status), and FIFTEEN reports of DETAINEES mishandling their own Qurans. Newsweeks' story was wrong after all. -
Is W. Mark Felt a "Hero" or "Traitor" ?
Terry Tate replied to OnTheRocks's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Basically. A law enforcement officer, who saw the agency he respected and loved being corrupted, who went outside the lines to leak information. Had he reported through official channels, he would have been sacrificing himself, and quite possibly for nothing, as Nixon was working very hard to make the FBI a political weapon. Not something I would admire except under extraordinary circumstances, and I believe that situation qualified as extraordinary. -
Terrorists Get What's Coming to Them

I see your point. Sort of a RICO act for terrorists. -
Terrorists Get What's Coming to Them

You got that right. "... and threatening to kill or injure members of their families ... " I'm not sure I'd give them the opportunity to make that call. -
Terrorists Get What's Coming to Them
Terry Tate replied to Arkady Renko's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Yes. What I'm saying is breaking and entering, theft, assault, harrassment, and conspiracy to commit, etc. could have been enforced under existing laws. The "new" law is being used to prosecute "old" criminal activity. It's a device of politicians. -
Well, it's all Saban's now. Hopefully he doesn't get a GM that can handle all those responsibilities, and tries to do it all himself. That would be a pretty good recipe for disaster.

Terrorists Get What's Coming to Them
Terry Tate replied to Arkady Renko's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
"... invading offices, damaging property and stealing documents ... spraying cleaning fluid into the eyes of employees -- smashing the windows of their homes and threatening to kill or injure members of their families ... " Of course they should be prosecuted, but the "new" law part is BS. All these things were already against the law. -
Is W. Mark Felt a "Hero" or "Traitor" ?
Terry Tate replied to OnTheRocks's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
True. I guess my point is I think it was more of a personal belief that leaking information is wrong, and he didn't want to be known as that guy. It was his family's desire to make a buck and his advancing age that prompted him coming out now. -
Is W. Mark Felt a "Hero" or "Traitor" ?
Terry Tate replied to OnTheRocks's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I don't think that was it. It could be, since a Reagan pardon in 1981 alleviated him from a conviction on authorizing break-ins of people's homes who were associated with the Weather Underground. So I'm sure at least at some level there was concern of being prosecuted. But I think it was more of a personal thing. Leaking information to the press wasn't something he was proud of. That's an old-school mentality, all right. It was his current generation family wanting to cash in on the subject that talked him into coming forward. Left to his own devices, he would have taken his secret identity to the grave. -
Is W. Mark Felt a "Hero" or "Traitor" ?
Terry Tate replied to OnTheRocks's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Neither. I personally have higher standards for the label hero. This was certainly in the right direction, and the case could be made it was heroic, but I reserve the title for those who risk their lives to save others. And LarryBoy. I would consider him as a role model in regards to his behavior in this issue, however. Nor was he a traitor. His first duty was to law enforcement. He absolutely did what was right. He chose the wrong method out of necessity. Normally, if you have information about criminal activity in an ongoing investigation, you report it to the prosecutor. However, since Nixon and then acting FBI director Gray were actively trying to suppress the investigation, the only way to get the information out would be through the press. Going the official route, he would have ended his career, and probably for nothing. I can understand staying mum while still working, even after the prosecutions were completed. Once past his retirement, I'm not sure what the point of remaining silent has been. -
Thanks again - great job as always. Don't know who GS is; his look pretty good, too, but I prefer your 'full screen' style to the 'framed' types he's using.

need advice about a career change!!!!!
Terry Tate replied to Bills/Sabresfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Full disclosure statement: My mom was a teacher. Tough balance to find something you enjoy doing, pays the bills, and allows for time with your family. I quit a relatively high-paying job in California last year to move my family to Florida. I'll be lucky to make half of what my last job paid, but my overall living situation is better now (I'll have more family time, and we live near other relatives now). Priorities change throughout your life; a good trade-off now may not make sense in a few years - then you may find you want/need another change. I don't regret making a lot of money when I did - I'm still reaping the benefits of it, but seeing how happy my wife and kids are now makes up for giving up that gig. Understand too, had I NOT worked that job, we would not have had the financial security to be able to make the move. BTW, I don't remember the guys I bought cars from. I do remember teachers I had thirty years ago. My mother has kept in touch with quite a few of her former students; they've become extended family. She still sees others (got pulled over for speeding a couple years ago - the officer declined to write up his former English teacher ). You can trade money for time, and find a way to get more money. If you give time for money, it's not a trade, it's a sacrifice. You can't get that time back. Sometimes it's not a huge sacrifice, and you can still make it work. Good luck with your decision. -
That took me a couple seconds, but that's funny.

June Movies: Summer season moves into high gear.
Terry Tate replied to Mark Vader's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
BTW, the author of the book, Roald Dahl, didn't want anything to do with the original movie. Although he has since passed, he appears to have fully supported the remake during its production. -
Nonsense. Tens of thousands of individuals have been captured and processed by American forces. There have been a few hundred allegations of abuse, and only a few dozen documented cases. Investigations are ongoing, prosecutions have been brought, and some individuals have already been punished. The record of human-rights compliance so far compiled by the United States Armed Forces in the war on terror has been exemplary. I hope no one is under the misconception AI is an objective organization that doesn't have a political agenda. It includes a worldwide ban of the death penalty and institution of the International Criminal Court. Are all of their supporters here signed up for that, too? Want to see American officials traveling abroad seized and prosecuted in the ICC?

Need your opinion...pls no flaming!!!

A properly executed PIT manuever on a high center-of-gravity vehicle such as described at 55mph should result in the target vehicle rolling over repeatedly. Or, you could back off, relax and drive the speed limit. -
Student in yearbook identified only as 'Black Girl
Terry Tate replied to Tux of Borg's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Describing someone unknown by white, black, asian is hardly racist; it's simply descriptive. "1-Adam-12, I have an APB on a, uh, a human." Now, saying races shouldn't mix - now that's racist. If that poster is identified as having been banned previously, I fail to understand why he is allowed to post here again. -
Tex Johnson would do a barrel roll in it. He was the test pilot who barrel-rolled the 707 prototype for a demonstration. Initially suspended/fired for the stunt, Boeing found they got a lot of publicity for it, and reinstated him with the understanding he would never do it again. Click here to download a 2.85MB video of it. "I was called to Mr. Allen's office Monday morning, and Mr. Allen asked me what I thought I was doing, and I said 'Well, I was selling airplanes."

Newsweek F*cks America...
Terry Tate replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
For the folks who are convinced that these "abuses" actually took place, and it's the governments' responsibility to prove they didn't, I have just one question - have you stopped beating your wives?
