By the same guys who think a casino is a good idea. Oh, but this time it's a stroke of genius. That sucking sound you hear will be a good amount of what little greenbacks there are in the area going into the money vacuum. If some coming out in minimum wages sounds like a good idea to you, best of luck with that. I'm sure the idiots who can't run the government responsibly now will become mensa members when a portion of your pissed-away dollars gets into their hands.

I feel sorry for her husband. He also lost his son. Now he's lost his wife, too.

Christopher Walken for President
Terry Tate replied to Peace Frog's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The thing I like about Walken is he makes such an impression you can imagine his voice just by reading his lines. And I don't think anyone does as good a job of self-parody while still in character. He's made some good movies for sure, but he's also made some bad movies a lot of fun to watch. -

Best internet hoax since the "send me money, or I'll eat this bunny" site. "If you want to learn how to build a house, build a house. Don't ask anybody, just build a house." The people taking it seriously are even funnier. -
The Bills ST averaged about 24 yards a return and took 3 for TD's last year. I probably would want to get a touchback against them if I didn't have a solid coverage team. However, the Bills coverage team held opponents to an 18 yard average with no TD's; dropping a kickoff at the goal line would put the average starting position inside the 20, with the possibility of a turnover. So no, I do not ALWAYS want a touchback. I understand it's a gamble; that's why I enjoy it.

I trust the ST more now. If you have a good coverage team, make them advance the football from the goal line. ST's can get in their face at the 10-15, maybe cause a turnover. Touchbacks bore me. Live a little!

I'm out of my league here.

Just be glad that JP didn't do this last night!

I've seen more than a few QB's do that. Never stops being funny. -

I noticed he's been booming his KO's so far - very nice. I hate to see the other team get a KO return starting at the 15 yd line. You don't want line drives or touchbacks - a high KO landing between the +5 to -2 yd lines is perfect. If he keeps that up, that's a valuable improvement - at least 1 more first down required by the opponent. OTOH, it used to kill me when Steve Christie's KO's would come down at the 15 yd line, until Mr Clutch kicked the game-winning FG - then it didn't seem so important. Waiting to see if Lindell has shown any improvement on FG's also...

It's a nice post. I would suggest creating a blog, cutting and pasting it there, and adding a descriptive link/sig line in your profile to link to it.

Put these together.

Thanks for doing that, seeing all the backwards arrows on the nfl.com live update last night was making me nuts. Hope they clean it up before the season starts. The D can overcome some mistakes, but penalties will kill the offense at this point. I'd be pulling out my hair watching that - and considering what's left of my crewcut, I really don't want to go there.

I don't understand keeping Wire over Prioleau either. But they took a chance on Wire, and it doesn't look like it's working out so far. I wouldn't have a problem with replacing him (in the taking-a-chance-on-someone department) with Baker or Leonhard based upon how they perform in pre-season. Leonhard's pretty short at 5'8", but he's not that small (190lbs), so he should be able to hold up to physical punishment - it'd just be the height disadvantage when the ball is in the air that would be an issue. And the guy looks like a real player so far. Baker is 5'10" 200lbs, so I don't think that it's that much of an issue if he is better at being in the right place at the right time.

I had half-screen of the nfl.com's live update in one window, and half-screen of the chat in another window, and it was a pretty decent way to follow the game if you're unable to watch it on TV. Much quicker updates on the chat than NFL, and NFL gives you all the official stats. Of course, then I tried to actually join the chat, and my firewall blew everything up. So I either need to disable my firewall to chat, or just stick with lurking.

See, I didn't even know they had separated. I was in homeroom with Lenora in middle school, I'm sure we had some classes together, but I don't recall. Maybe she was in Mr Fronczek's chorus with me too? That was a lot of fun. Man, just too long ago. I have a lot of fond memories of that neighborhood when I was 12/13/14/15 - little league football practice (Green Acres!) and ice skating over at Brighton park, playing tennis or launching home-made rockets over at the Glendale school grounds, etc. My friend and I would walk down Greenhaven to the Library, and if the creek/ditch was frozen enough, change into our skates and skate through the weeds all the way down to the trestle at Ellicot Creek Rd, put our boots back on to cross the trestle, and play pick-up hockey games at the pond right on the other side in the park. Sounds like you moved before you had a chance to see some of the houses on Parker Blvd on the edge of the golf course covered in snow drifts in the '77 Blizzard - that was a sight. Then I became a teenager and lost my mind when HS started, and was not the kind of kid you would want your kids hanging around with. Never saw Lenora again. Oh well. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Then stay tuned after the game for the news with Irv Weinstein, Tom Jolls and Rick Azar.

Good question; I haven't noticed Wilson yet. I'll have to watch for him. I think you're right on this. I'm not sure where R Lee fits in. Hasn't looked any better than Burns to me so far, but I only recall a couple plays. For this week, this is much more DISAPPOINTING than missing Roscoe to me. I was really eager to see how they dealt with: defensive end Dwight Freeney (shoulder), defensive end Raheem Brock (hip), defensive tackle Josh Williams (sports hernia), defensive tackle Montae Reagor (groin), cornerback Donald Strickland (groin), cornerback Nick Harper (foot). Dang right they should dominate whoever's left to play. I want to see some pancakes goin' on! The D is going to blow these guys up. I thought Vincent's move was permanent. Haven't watched much of King; I only recall noticing him on a blitz. I always enjoy seeing the Bills play, but man, the Colt's DL being out just kills me. Oh well, crawl/walk/run I guess. Probably better for JP not to have Freeney all over him at this point anyway. I haven't seen anything except the scrimmage, so I will watch every minute of it.

GOP/Independent Voter Registration Opinions
Terry Tate replied to Terry Tate's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
That doesn't shock me. There's a lot of different opinions on registration, that's why I'm asking. I disagree with the statement Democrats don't force social/religious ideology on people, but I don't wish to detour into a argument about a specific law or policy. I believe directly or indirectly, in minor and major ways, nearly all new law emanating from the government restricts freedom, and that has to be weighed against the payoff. You don't get much argument when you say a law against armed robbery should result in the restriction of freedom of a convicted felon. Where I tend to disagree wildly with some posters is the policies that everyone else seems to be on board with, that have real and lasting effects on those they help - I don't think the restrictions those policies place on everyone else's freedoms puts the scales in a favorable position. And I think there's too many laws that sounded like a good idea at the time, but place uneccessary restrictions on what would have been otherwise law-abiding citizens. I'm not sure if a national primary day is necessary; if they were all within a week or so of each other I think it would put an end to much of the favoritism. But I like the idea of not having primaries until late summer/early fall. -
GOP/Independent Voter Registration Opinions
Terry Tate replied to Terry Tate's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Not a bad idea if you support a major political party, but I'm not inclined to support a candidate from either major political party, so I'm not sure it really applies to me. The "lesser of two evils" vote is not a path on which I wish to continue. -
Since I recently moved, I need to re-register to vote. As much as the economy or foreign policy dominates the headlines, I try to frame my vote around what I believe the role of the federal, state and local governments should be, and which candidate more closely represents my views on this. I agreed with President Reagan when he said "it is my intention to curb the size and influence of the federal establishment and to demand recognition of the distinction between the powers granted to the federal government and those reserved to the states or to the people" - and I supported him. I agreed with Republicans in 1994 when they promised to to cut taxes, reduce federal spending and eliminate unneeded bureaucracy in the "Contract with America" - and I supported them. Times have changed, and the current GOP still talks conservatively, but actions speak louder than words. 1987 - President Reagan vetoes a transportation bill with 152 pork-barrel projects. 2005 - President Bush signs a transportation bill with over 6,500 pork-barrel projects. I can't decide if I want to re-register as a Republican so I can still vote in the primaries (Florida is a closed-primary state), or if I should register Independent, and ignore the primaries. Anyone want to try to convince me to stick with the GOP? Anyone wish to make the argument for registering Independent and never looking back? Democrats and other Socialists need not apply; you're words will fall on deaf ears.
