Until we sort this officiating we are going nowhere
MPT replied to Jasovon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Except he didn't get a penalty for waving to the crowd, so who cares? Players do that all the time on defense to make it loud. My point is that most of the penalties today (and all year, every year) can't be fixed by coaching because they are entirely on the officiating crew. Hughes gets a personal foul for congratulating his teammate, Gronk gets nothing for assaulting White with his weaponized elbow. How does coaching have ***** all to do with things like that? Edit: And yes, I used two extreme examples to illustrate the point, but there are a dozen less extreme examples of the same bias in every single game. -
Of course a coach has to tell his returner how to clear out blockers, and tell those blockers how to avoid the returner. Maybe he did, and maybe that one was on McKenzie and whoever ran into him. That's why I said "if". It's the second part of my post that is the damning part of his performance and ultimately why he should be replaced.

Which ones do you consider inexcusable? The pass interference that wasn't? The unsportsmanlike conduct that wasn't? The illegal contact that wasn't? The holding that wasn't? The coaches and players are not responsible for bad officiating. -
McKenzie didn't really muff it. His own guy ran into him. If their communication is lacking, that's on Crossman. This year has been filled with undisciplined penalties, guys out of position, lack of production on returns, and big gains given up in coverage.

Can't we just agree that he shows a ton of heart and flashes of potential but still has a lot to work on? He's not a savior yet, and he's not a bust yet. You don't have to choose one of those and then act like a child trying to support it. You can praise good plays and criticize bad ones. That's called objective reasoning.

You're forgetting his TD drop last year that hit him in the middle of the chest. There is no ball placement where Clay won't find a way to drop it. -

Except he was still in a position to catch it and didn't. That's Clay's modus operandi, especially in the endzone. -

Again we get hosed on a non-call when they called Milano for that soft PI. -

Perhaps he was terrible in the first half and has gotten much better? That's allowed, you know. Even the best quarterbacks can be criticized for having bad halves. -

Not on the quarterback. That is a penalty 100% of the time for anyone not playing the Bills. -

Where's the ***** flag on the clothesline tackle?! After all these ***** penalties they don't call that? -

Ah, yes, the signature referee drive right after the game turns in our favor. Seen it a million times -

Awesome TD & conversion from Allen and Jones. But OMG McDermott. Do you hate having timeouts? Three timeouts thrown away for no reason today. -

Has McDermott ever made a smart challenge? I'm not being a smartass. I'm genuinely curious if he has a 100% failure rate at challenging calls. Edit: 0/6 this season and 1/10 in his career according to the commentators. That is truly awful. Like incredibly embarrassing. This isn't rocket science. That doesn't even include calls he should have challenged and didn't. -
What else would they say? That they're going to squander $90 million on overpriced free agents? Judging by the constant turnover of GM's in sports, I think it's far more ignorant to blindly assume that one will accomplish his goals just because he said it in a press conference.

I knew exactly what this thread was about and didn't want to click it but someone is holding a gun to my head and made me read it. I can't stand when other people have a different opinion than me so I'm just going to whine about your whining. This is a Bills message board after all; it's not some place for you to come and talk about the Bills. Now, I have nothing worthwhile to add but the guy with the gun to my head is telling me to go click on more threads I don't like and post the same exact thing because it's far more constructive than the thing I'm complaining about. -
"You guys think we could get that sex toy thrower in here at QB?"
-
Seriously? You say I'm ignoring your point and then leave out the first sentence of your two sentence quote, which defines the basis of your argument. If you're saying that the Chiefs handled their QB situation similarly, then I'll grant you they did in fact draft a QB with the intent to sit him for a year. However, having Alex Smith in front of him is a completely different situation than what we're doing. They sat him for a year and still had a plan to be extremely productive offensively. They didn't plan to sit him while tanking, which is what you claimed.
-
You said the Bills are tanking and then claimed the Chiefs did the same thing. Verbatim.
-
I think you're very confused about something. The Chiefs were first in their division at 12-4 and scored 389 points the year before they drafted Mahomes. Then they went 10-6 (again first in their division) and scored 415 points while sitting Mahomes. At no point did they do anything resembling a tank. They went from 2-14 in 2012 with Crennel to 11-5 with Andy Reid the next year. That's just what happens when you go from a bad coach / GM to a good coach / GM. Good coaches and GM's don't tank in football. They just find talent and put up 400 points a season.
