  1. I agree. I generally like the guys who carry mediocre teams on their back, as opposed to the blue chippers who wind up being coddled by other blue chip talent. Very few top NFL QBs came from elite college football programs. Most are guys who went to above average programs and made them much better than they historically were during their time on campus, or catapulted a program into being an elite program due to the uptick in recruiting they experienced as a result of their success. I think Darnold is a legit stud. Even though he's at USC I think he's an excellent prospect. He doesn't appear to have any flaws in his game. Rosen also looks quite good. He doesn't have a great line protecting him, and he's still looked quite good. I think he needs to continue to develop, but he looks like a top 10 pick. Allen is the guy I'm most interested in. 6'5, cannon arm, plays for a mediocre team and is sneaky athletic. I think he looks like a young Ben Roethlisberger. I'm interested in seeing how he performs against Iowa tomorrow and Oregon in a couple weeks. I think he and Darnold should wind up going 1-2 in the draft when it's all said and done. Mayfield is a decent prospect but I hate the offense he comes out of. As I said, I think he's really good at running that offense in the Big XII, but if you ask him to run an NFL offense against NFL opponents I'm not sure he's going to be successful.
  2. You just moved the goal posts. You justified his not being in the league due to his talent, and that's clearly not the case. I have no idea what he wants financially, I'm just pointing out that he'd represent a sizable upgrade to the starting QB spot for either the Jets or Jags.
  3. Mayfield is a good college QB whose game doesn't translate very well to the NFL. He looks the part of a mid round pick.
  4. I'm 100% sure he's a better player than TJ Yates. I'm fairly certain he's better than every 3rd string QB across the league. Most backups as well, and possibly a couple starters (NY Jets, Jags). He's unemployed almost entirely because of his protesting.
  5. I agree. The only problem is that NFL offenses are much more potent now than they were 10 years ago when we had Jauron. If we're scoring like 20 points per game, like we did under Jauron, we're looking at 4-5 wins, tops.
  6. I think every NFL players knows there are consequences for protesting the anthem. All they have to do is look at Colin Kaepernick and see that he's unemployed as a result of the stance he took.
  7. We certainly don't need to start him early, but if we're like 3-9 or 4-8 with four games left, I'd give him some run at the end of the season to see what he's got.
  8. Hopefully the Kirk Cousins comparisons are accurate.
  9. Peterman looked really good tonight. He was in command of the offense, decisive with the ball and accurate with most of his throws. I really hope we can commit to stashing him on the bench for the first three months, but I think he'll probably get a cameo at the end of the season to get some game experience under his belt once our chance at a successful season has washed away. He looks like a really good developmental guy to have learning on the bench.
  10. Dude, everyone we play knows we're going to try and roll Taylor out, and they're going to actively try and stop us from doing that. Everyone we play is going to make him play QB, and as he's shown in the past, he's going to struggle. All of our receivers are possession guys who use the middle of the field; the area of the field that Taylor is the worst at completing passes to. Without a legit deep threat, we're going to face stacked boxes and Taylor is going to have to lead sustained drives if we want to put points on the board, and that's something he's never done well. Taylor is capable of creating big plays, but the problem this year is we don't have any big play makers in the pass game. Our receivers are sure handed and they run good routes, but they're not explosive and they're not going to get behind a secondary for big plays. The Bills were middle of the road last year, and I think they're going to regress this year. Taylor topped out in 2015, and he's been in decline ever since. He's been horrible all preseason and has not looked good in camp. The Bills are yet again going to rank at the bottom of the league in passing, and without any big play makers in the pass game there's going to be more pressure than ever on the run game, and with them being keyed on by defenses without any home run receivers to keep them honest, I think we're going to have an offense that scores about 20 points per game, which would be the worst we've seen in 10 years.
  11. I don't think it will matter. Without a WR who can stretch the field deep and command safety help, it's going to be a replay or Trent's last year here, where teams loaded the box, and stacked bodies in zone coverage across the short passing lanes, daring him to try and beat them deep with his arm. We're going to put Taylor in the worst possible offense for him to run. He needs big, fast receivers on the outside who can stretch the field and make plays down the sidelines. As we all know, Taylor's at his worst having to throw short passes to the middle of the field, and if you look at our receivers, that's all Matthews, Jones and Clay are going to contribute this year. I'm expecting the worst offense we've seen in about 10 years. I think we'll struggle to run it, and I think our passing game is going to be a total liability due to what we're lining up at WR this year.
  12. Agreed. If we trade McCoy, I think we're pretty darn close to picking in the top 2. Without him, we'll struggle to score 20 points a game which likely means 12 or more losses. I don't really see how Mayfield's game translates to the NFL. Seems like the latest example of good college spread QB but not a very good NFL QB. That Oklahoma offense teaches players next to nothing about how to run an NFL offense. I like his fire as a competitor, but I don't think the NFL will collectively view a 6'1, spread QB as the best QB prospect in the draft. Darnold, Allen and Rosen should be the top 3 guys. They've all god the size, arm, accuracy and experience under centre to be projected as long term NFL starters. I personally think Allen is the best fit for what we need long term as a franchise QB who we can build an offense around for years to come.
  13. True. I guess I'm hoping a team like LA, Cleveland or Chicago wind up in one of those spots and has enough faith in their existing young QB and wants to trade down. I also won't rule us out from being the 2nd worst team in the NFL this year. I think our offense is going to be just awful.
  14. I think the Bills will win between 3 and 6 games. This team simply doesn't have enough talent on offense, or enough depth on defense, to win more than about a handful of games.
  15. They'll need to move up to #2 to get one of the elite QBs. Good thing they have tons of ammo to get it done.
  16. I don't see it. Taylor has more or less performed in the regular season as he played in each preseason. The Bills offense is going to be horrible this year. We're below average at QB, on the OL and have one of the worst WR groups in the league. All we have is McCoy, and he's going to face nothing but 8 man fronts because we don't have a single WR on the roster who can stretch the field vertically. Instead of having guys who can make big plays in the pass game, our stable of possession receivers is going to force Taylor to manufacture and sustain drives, and there's too much evidence that he's not the type of QB who can do that. Taylor is best suited in an offense that has speedy receivers on the outside who can at least keep a defense honest because he showed he deliver a pretty good deep ball. With this group of possession based receivers, opponents will lock us up in man coverage with a single high safety, and blanket short pass patterns like they used to do with Trent Edwards. This season is going to be really tough to watch, because our offense is going to be among the worst in the league.
  17. I find it hard to imagine the Bills picking 15th. I'm expecting something in the 3-7 overall range, at which point we need to trade up for an elite QB.
  18. Kevin Hogan Brett Hundley Aaron Murray AJ McCarron Ricky Stanzi TJ Yates Nathan Enderle John Skelton Jonathon Crompton Rhett Bomar Nate Davis John David Booty Dennis Dixon Josh Johnson Eric Ainge Jeff Rowe Troy Smith Ingle Martin Omar Jacobs Dan Orlovsky Adrian McPherson Craig Krenzel Brian St Pierre Randy Fasani Kurt Kittner Brandon Doman Craig Nall Mike McMahon Tee Martin Those are the QBs drafted in the 5th round since 2000. Not a single long term starter, and only a handful of mediocre backups. The people thinking Nate Peterman is going to play well this year with this supporting cast, are crazy.
  19. LOL He didn't play as a rookie.
  20. He's not going to come in and do well. The Bills have one of the worst offenses in the NFL on paper. We've got nothing at WR except a couple possession guys who can't stretch the field, we have a leaky o line, and a running back who has been banged up a couple times over the past two years. If anyone is expecting Peterman, a 5th round pick, to come in and win games as a rookie with this supporting cast, you need your head read. Really? When was the last time a 5th round QB came into the NFL and didn't look completely overwhelmed? I'll wait......
  21. This isn't about this year. The Bills are finally building an actual foundation that they can be successful with for years to come. That means getting the right characters in the locker room and getting rid of the dead weight who isn't buying in. Dareus has had attitude problems since the day we picked him. He's shown up to camp overweight multiple times, and has seen his play fall off a cliff since we gave him that huge contract. He either gets with the program, and shows he can be a guy they can build around for years to come, or he doesn't, and we get rid of him and remove a bad apple from the room. The Bills aren't making the playoffs this year with or without Dareus. The question is solely; is he a guy we're going to have around long term? Based off his character, and what the coaching staff seems to be looking for, I'd say he and McDermott aren't a long term fit.
  22. Most NFL QBs weren't top recruits. Additionally, most top recruits aren't good NFL QBs. Allen looks like Big Ben. Huge arm, elite size, ability to push the ball down the field and sneaky mobility to extend plays outside of the pocket. He's got a very similar resume to Carson Wentz who I really wanted the Bills to trade up for last year.
  23. Yup. Peterman gets a 4-5 game audition, and about 300 reps with the offense. Anymore than that and you risk him developing bad habits which will sewer his long term value as a backup.
  24. This is Tyrod's last year in Buffalo. The Bills are going to go all in on drafting a blue chip QB next year, and they're going to rebuild around that player. We need to walk away with either Darnold or Allen. Both look like elite NFL QB prospects.
  25. No thanks. He adds nothing to this roster.
