  1. I don't think ownership looks at it the same way. They probably see: 2017 - didn't win Super Bowl 2016 - didn't win Super Bowl 2015 - didn't win Super Bowl 2014 - didn't win Super Bowl 2013 - didn't win Super Bowl 2012 - didn't win Super Bowl 2011 - didn't win Super Bowl 2010 - didn't win Super Bowl With the talent they've had over the past 8 years, they've under achieved. Too many "bad" playoff losses.
  2. One game against a bad defense.
  3. Most of his scouting reports disagree.
  4. All of the Clemson defensive linemen went back to school. God I hope not. - mediocre arm - no mobility - poor short and intermediate accuracy - no experience under centre Gross...
  5. The college game has changed dramatically since he played 28 years ago... There are a handful of guys who improved their accuracy over the past 30 years. Not great odds.
  6. Only Cam Newton comes to mind, and he is a much better football player than Josh Allen.
  7. True. There are thresholds. Most guys who complete fewer than 59% of their throws in their final year of college ever amount to anything in the NFL.
  8. Any QB whose accuracy and mechanics are openly questioned in their scouting report is an extremely risky pick. As I've said before, guys with scouting reports that read like his does rarely ever succeed in the NFL. Most are complete busts.
  9. Generally speaking you shouldn't bother looking at college stats as a way of projecting how a QB will do in the NFL.
  10. I've watched a few games of his from 2017 and he's in shotgun 100% of the time and they primarily run the zone ready. That's not a "pro style offense". His running ability, which is never as effective in the NFL as it was in college for mobile QBs, will be limited and he'll be forced to beat teams with his arm. He has the tools to do so, but his learning curve is going to be steep. If we draft him I won't be upset (we can do a lot worse). I just don't think he has a great shot of becoming a long term starter in the NFL given his small size and reliance on his running ability. Seems like a guy who is more likely than not going to be banged up a lot.
  11. Agreed. Aside from probably being able to throw a football 80 yards, Flacco and Allen are nothing alike. I think Allen's ceiling is as a poor man's Cam Newton. Similar physical traits, but much worse instictiveness for the game of football. My gut tells me he'll wind up being a lot more like EJ Manuel or Jake Locker (very similar physical traits, and skill as a passer) than Newton. I think he'll be an enormous bust.
  12. That's a hard pass. Rudolph looks like Bryce Petty with a worse arm and Jackson's learning curve will be extremely steep.
  13. I don't understand the Josh Allen hype at all. Guys with scouting reports like his, and his level of college production never work out at the NFL level.
  14. Tomlin hasn't won a Super Bowl in the same amount of time Tony Dungy was the head coach in Tampa without winning a Super Bowl (6 years). Over that time, the Steelers, like the Bucs, have had one of the most talented teams in the NFL, yet they haven't won a Super Bowl. With a shrinking window of opportunity (their run is over when Ben retires), they'd be wise to switch things up and try to get over the hump vs stick with a guy who hasn't won a Super Bowl since 2010 and has only got them to one AFC Championship game in that time for someone who can freshen things up and try to get a little bit more out of their extremely talented roster.
  15. I agree. Both parties are terrible. The two party system is a joke. Thinking that 2 parties could adequately represent 330 million people at the Federal level and satisfy the public is beyond laughable.
  16. I'd fire him. This is the Tony Dungy situation in Tampa all over again. They get close every year, but they can't break through. The Steelers have arguably the most talented offense in the NFL, and they've only made the AFC Championship game once in six years. I'd roll the dice and fire Tomlin and bring in a coach who will update the culture and see if that allows them to break through and once again become perennial Super Bowl contenders. They need to go out and find their Jon Gruden to get them over the hump.
  17. The American media in general is a joke. Doesn't matter if you're listening to the left or right, both sides are so off base it's a joke. The left spends all their talking about Russia, or Trump's health, or any various topic that the average person couldn't care less about. The right spends every minute talking about Hilary Clinton. Considering that she has no chance of running again, it seems like a complete waste of time. Overall all the current system does is divide the country. The issue is that "media" since the rise of the internet about 20 years ago has become desperate to make money. Instead of reporting the news and conducting investigative journalism like might have been the case in the past, reporters are tasked with generating click bait and manufacturing stories that their readers want to consume on a consistent basis. Both sides need to manipulate the news to keep their audience engaged, and both sides have lost most of their credibility over the past couple years. On the left, their viewers/readers want to hear about how shocking and ridiculous that someone like Donald Trump could be President. They can literally sell this every day and their audience will tune in. This is literally all CNN and MSNBC talk about. On the right, their audience wants to hear about Hillary Clinton and the #fakenews media. They can literally sell this every single day and their audience tunes in. Sean Hannity and guys like him literally talk about Hillary for hours every day. Overall, as I said before, the whole thing is a joke. The whole system is completely broken and it's not getting fixed anytime soon. The US needs real leadership that's interested in leading the whole country, and not just a small faction on voters who they call their base. Who knows when that person is going to come along.
  18. Guys with his set of "Negatives" never work out in the NFL.
  19. The 49ers are going to use the franchise tag on him. They didn't just trade a 2nd round pick to not keep him around long term. There is a 0% chance we add Jimmy G.
  20. With a free agent and an early draft pick. The rest of the team is ready to win now if we can upgrade our passing game.
  21. I agree. I really like Mayfield. I think he has the "it" factor and he wants to be great. He genuinely loves football, and his team mates respect him. Darnold has all the tools, but his decision making worries me. He turns the ball over a lot, either with interceptions or poor ball security in the pocket. He needs to clean all that up if he wants to be successful. I see a lot of parallels to Matt Stafford who has also always had ball security problems. Rosen worries me. He seems like a piece of work who no one likes. I don't think that level of entitlement will fly in the NFL. I don't think he has the mental make up to be a successful NFL QB. As you said, for all the tools he has, why didn't he play better? Past that I think you're throwing darts at a board. I don't see much to think any of the other guys are more than a long shot of being successful.
  22. Height doesn't bother me. He plays behind an enormous offensive line and has had no issues scanning the field. I care about his attitude, competitiveness, work ethic, accuracy and ability to make plays from the pocket, and I think he does all those things quite well. I'd love to move up into the 5-10 range and have a shot at Mayfield. It'll probably cost three first round picks, but I think the risk is worth the potential reward so long as we keep our 2nd round picks.
  23. Jay - who do you like this year?
  24. Right. Most of them aren't going to work out. Rosen has the tools, but all the reports of his demeanour off the field are terrible. He's selfish, his team mates don't appear to like him, and as you pointed out he never elevated his UCLA team. He sounds like a piece of work, and unless he's the best player on his team those guys usually don't last long in an NFL locker room. He worries me a ton. Seems like a terrible fit in Buffalo. Darnold gets too much hype in my eyes. He makes too many mistakes. I think his best case scenario is Matt Stafford, but I think there's considerable downside as well. He's got the tools, but he needs to put it all together. It remains to be seen if he can do that. Allen I've discussed. I'm not using a 1st round pick on an average college QB. Baker Mayfield is the only guy who really interests me. I like the competitiveness, I like that he improved every year, and I like that he had back to back years with a QBR above 90 (history shows this seems to be important). After watching Desean Watson find early success as a passer, I think Mayfield could do the same thing. I think he's a smart QB who wants to be great and I think he's the type of guy who would be a great fit in Buffalo. The fans would absolutely love him. No one else really interests me.
