The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
shoshin replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
He should. But if you see any politician owning that they screwed up in their lack of preparedness, I’ll be shocked. The best they all will say is that this caught them off guard. -

38M people in metro Tokyo agree. We need to take a long hard look at places that have almost no spread but a lot of exposure. -

We were all unprepared. If you show me an American state or politician who was prepared for this, only they can lay blame. But that’s not fair to do. Judge everyone by their actions after mid-March, when we all woke up. -

They are both being political ****heads at times in this. Trump has a bigger stage and role though. But the bar is really low for him when he’s behind the microphone. Trump’s actions are almost always better than his words. Not the best or an inspiring leader but he’s doing ok in his actions with this so far. I want him to do some more but this mostly has to do with explaining the path forward after this wave. -

when I was searching Twitter yesterday for a Fauci statement, I ran into A LOT of wacky crap about Fauci and Gates and how this is all a plot between the two of them. People are nuts! -

Lots of drugs kill viruses in test tubes. This study is very preliminary. Thanks. Her comments about case uptick are so hard to react to. Case counting everywhere is increasing as testing increases, and testing backlogs get reduced. It’s a great metric when it’s accurate but a bad one right now. -

i see the trends. I just don’t see that Fauci said it. I wasn’t questioning her like I didn’t believe it. I wanted to share that with a few people and couldn’t find it. That last thing you said is really important. NYC Metro is 65% of deaths in the last 24 hours in America. If we can control it there, the country numbers may start to drop. -

@buffalogal are you sure Fauci said deaths will peak this week? I don’t see anything about that in the Twitter verse. -

Thank you. I’ve never understood being offended by someone praying for someone else who is in pain or danger. But I also am happy to receive and give a hearty Merry Christmas. Back to Covid talk. worst post ever -

Online. No way we want people in churches next Sunday. Got it. Now see your later post. Thanks for the updates on this. I’m sitting at my grill. Sounds like an upbeat news conf. If that dour MF Fauci (who I respect a ton) is starting to say anything good, that is good indeed. Not that peaking in deaths in a week is actually “good” news. -

I don’t believe in God but anyone who wants to pray for my brother who is a nurse and my best friend who is a doctor, thank you for sending the positive thoughts. -

Resource management is what everyone is doing. Look at the country and you can see we have a giant NYC problem and growing problems in New Orleans and Detroit, with hints in Atlanta. The rest of the country can help at the moment. Of course everyone is nervous but this is about helping the person who needs it now. -

Trump has a lot of unforced errors. That was one. He could have said, "We recommend that people, when they go to crowded places, wear masks. I may not because of all the testing that goes on around us but if I was going to a crowded place, I would wear a mask and I would feel good seeing others doing so because we would be keeping each other safe. Bigly." I think he will say some version of that today when Acosta asks him the sure-to-come dickish question about this. -

You know what else could happen? We could have a run on fabric and there won't be enough for clothes. I think we have bigger problems that the masks are solving than worrying overly much about the masked bandits that this will encourage. If it makes you feel better, carry a piece when you pick up your produce. -

This is great from Oregon and I am sure other places with low rates around the country and New York State will also step up. That's what we do as Americans. Yay us! It's like you don't remember when we had 15 cases as a country. If we'd all just distanced and worn masks starting then (not shut down), we'd have almost no problem. That's not a knock on anyone who didn't do it then because very few people knew we'd go from 15 to hundreds of thousands in a blink but don't we know better now? Why take the chance? -

He and gal think there’s some plot afoot to virtue signal and control the populace. I’d like him to put on his mask so we can switch the economy signal to green everywhere and soon. And save lives, like the Wegman’s cashier or his kid or grandmother. But mostly keep the spread down so we can get the ***** back to work. -

Your vaccinations help a lot of people who can’t get vaccinated. Thanks for helping them (I know several). -

Do you get vaccinations to protect other people? A cloth mask at the grocery store seems like a simple ask. Tokyo metro has 38M people. The daily death toll in all of Japan has topped 20 for a single day. Maybe social distancing and masks make a difference. (Maybe other things too.) Just consider it. I won’t try to shame you or call the jack booted thugs. But it’s not much to ask. Touche. It proves my point even better! -

Cuomo is reminding us that we need to work together when one of us is down. That’s never a bad message and really it shouldn’t need to be said. When Hawaii got attacked, 49 states responded. Same with 9-11. We can help ourselves and others and others can help us. -

Yes. This is a NYC problem and not so much elsewhere in NY or the US yet. They need the resources if they are not in use. There is a lot of whining about taking things for NYC but NYC is part of this country and it needs our help. If we can help, that’s what we do. -

You go to a place with a lot of people like a grocery store. You wear a mask. Just wait until the cdc recommends vaccinations. “You can’t tell me what to do!” I hope this is not true. Thank you to Canada for accepting all our planes on 9-11. -

They are not referring to DC. They are referring to crowded places like grocery stores. He downplayed it. He shouldn’t have. It is not the worst thing ever but it was a fumble. He can recover today. -

He is at less risk for sure but he should not downplay it. And he need not wear a mask but he should encourage, not discourage, the recommendations. I expect this to be addressed in a less bumbling way today. Yes, you can volunteer not to protect your neighbors. I’m not sure why you would do that but you could. Jesus really? -

this and this don’t gibe. It’s not an end of time moment for him. But the purpose of the mask is for the wearer to keep the rest of us safe. He should wear the mask in a crowded room as an example. It’s an unfortunate moment for him and I think he may rethink his statement actually. He gets this is serious and his actions matter. if he wants to take off the mask for press conferences, change the conference format. They have been standing on top of each other for weeks. Set the example even with all the testing. We know Pence and Trump already have had a few direct exposures.
