The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
shoshin replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
CTRL-F NOT FOUND: “Protest.” So are you acknowledging a hospital problem in the south? And are you talking about those huge BLM protests in Texas, Arizona, Florida? Cases still down in Philadelphia, NYC, DC, even Buffalo, where big marches took place. CTRL-F "think" -

It is off. It was a stupid quote and if fee any at all, only relevant to testing to see if you already had Covid, not active case counts. Bad info. Very defensive eh? Just admit his point was stupid and it wasn’t a good item share. It happens. -

No need to get a new uniform; You still can be part of that team. That quote from the CDC is about testing for past infections. If anything, that answer could suggest that the positive antibody tests overstate the current spread and/or give a false sense of security to people who test positive. It is a real quote at least. A real quote taken out of context by someone who probably didn't read the whole thing but still. Edit: Wow that guy is a TV doctor. What a hack! -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

Walked around on the American side of the Falls tonight with my family. Looking over at Canada, everything looked open--seemed like people were having a really good time. The American side was a bit more somber but still nice. You could see Canada was projecting the red white and blue colors on the horseshoe falls but of course the view from the US is kinda lame. Still felt neighborly of them trying to celebrate us, and the US citizens who are in Canada got a show. Decent crowds, not more than 50% masked. My dad was at home in Buffalo. For the first time since he was a teenager, he's not been able to go to Canada to what was his father and uncle's cottage on Lake Erie. He has only so many summer left and it breaks his heart. He's wearing a mask everywhere, gloves, barely leaving the house. He's trying to will his way to getting our case count down so Canada will accept us before the summer is over but that's not happening. I doubt they will allow us in before spring 2021. Be well everyone. My dad wants you to stay safe and get our cases down so we can travel again. -
Happy Birthday America / Independence Day

I fly my flag every year no matter who is in office, no matter how much I disagree. Our history is imperfect. Our future is imperfect. Freedom is messy. But it’s ours to have and hold if we can. -

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

That is IHME. It shows something but it is wildly off. Especially compared to states that do release their data. Florida does not have 70% of icu beds free. -

Did DeSantis release FL hospital data today? I don't see it (and can't find it). All I see is this chart that shows spiking hospitalizations by day. Is there anyplace that shows bed usage and capacity? I'm asking here because I believe Magox lives in FL and maybe others too. We probably are only seeing the beginning of hospitalization rises in FL and I'd like a good source to watch. -

Seven states are reporting new highs for current coronavirus hospitalizations, according to data tracked by The Washington Post — Arizona, Arkansas, California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas — as the number of infections continues to climb across the South and West. -

You haven’t been paying attention to my posts. I’ve been against a widespread lockdown from day one. But I’m not blind to the numbers. And umm, the EU seems to be reopening without the turn we are taking. *** “Part of the problem, Peña said, is that when his crews arrive at a hospital with a patient suspected of having COVID-19, the hospital may have a physical bed open for them, but not enough nurses or doctors to staff it. That’s a problem that’s likely to deepen ...” Bed counts are a misleading stat? Ya don’t say. -

Highest two day death total in Texas since late April. Exactly two weeks since cases started spiking. Guess we will see how high it gets. If it stays where it is, Abbott will probably accept the 1500 deaths per month to stay open. June 16 was the jump. June 23 was the next jump. So it hasn’t been 24 days. And see my above note. Deaths are rising. -

Snopes says false. Some other guy already tried to share this here. You fell for wanting it to be true. -

Can't go to Canada, as you probably know. They've got their Covid under control.

The Moderna story is not that surprising. A few weeks is a small delay for something this rushed. Hopefully they get it back on track. Big case number (again) for Florida--big hospitalization number too, Rubio's quote yesterday notwithstanding: I'm sure they have been testing everyone for C-19 at the hospital for a while. This didn't start 8 days ago. -
Sure. If any of my clients would see me! My wife and I will take a trip this fall if we can find a place to land in that has something approaching normalcy. Covid bombed out our 25th wedding anniversary so we need to make up for that.

I've linked to that before. It lists new hospitalizations per day. That's an interesting statistic and shows some trending but not at all helpful to show hospital resource usage. -

Maybe when DeSantis deigns to share the FL hospitalization data, he can include that piece. -

I shared the quote because they added 25% more immediately and maybe as much as 50%. In other news, I didn't find incredible when NYC was making up 80% of the deaths, don't find it incredible now. This virus is not hitting everywhere all at once. If it gets traction somewhere, it will boom. That's the way growth of diseases works. No one except that one report counted those deaths in yesterday's numbers. -

That's some bizzarre-ass magical thinking. From that story: Banner Health's chief clinical officer said Friday Banner's Arizona ICUs were nearing 100 percent of licensed capacity, and hospital administrators were preparing to add additional beds to expand ICU capacity by 25 percent. All Arizona hospitals have been mandated by the state government to have surge plans to increase their capacity as much as 50 percent, if necessary. -

He's comparing populations across time--450M people are having less cases than Arizona and it's 7M due to better management of the disease. Pretty inarguable. -

The guy who wrote the tweet is irrelevant to the numbers. Look over the tops of your rigid-opinion glasses at the data.
