  1. I agree that every team has the right, independently, to choose not to employ a player. It just doesn't seem lke that's all that happened here.
  2. Why does it have to be a funny comeback? You're saying Kaepernick brought this on himself by doing something that was well within his rights. There was nothing in the NFL rulebook that said he had to stand for the national anthem.
  3. That's about as sensible as "what did she expect to happen when she wore that short skirt?".
  4. I still can't believe his degenerative knee condition didn't heal itself when he moved to Buffalo.
  5. Kaepernick averaged ~$7M/yr over his NFL career. AAF pays $250K/yr. Imagine you were making $100K/yr for dangerous work with a good company, then lost your job. Some other rinky dink company offers you the same dangerous position, but for just $3,500/yr. If you don't take the job, that clearly means you're just not interested in working at all.
  6. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
  7. It's possible that Kaepernick doesn't want to play in the AAF at all, and gave $20M as the crazy number it would take to get him to change his mind. It's like when you agree to get with some gross person if your buddies will pay you $5,000.
  8. Losing Bruce, Thurman, and Andre in the same offseason ('00) was sad because it signaled the end of an era. Letting Flutie walk the following year was also tough for me. I knew it was coming, but his lights out performance in that meaningless last game, a rout vs Seattle, gave me false hope that maybe we wouldn't be stuck with Rob Johnson starting for a full season. Instead, the football gods would use Patriots' CB Terrell Buckley to do their bidding, resulting in a broken collarbone for Rob on a blustery November day in Foxboro. As Rob Johnson was helped off the field, Patriots' fans chanted for Flutie. If we're being honest, it was a pretty good burn.
  9. Overpay to get the linemen you need. If they pick the right guys, nobody's going to care about the extra $1-2M they're getting per year.
  10. Flacco going to Denver is good news for anyone who wants to sign John Brown. Any chance of Brown following Flacco wherever he goes probably just flew out the window, as Brown's Sickle cell condition & the high altitude of Denver would not be a good pairing.
  11. That's Montgomery's scouting report in a nutshell: great moves, always falls forward, lacks a second gear.
  12. Not all in the same year, but the ongoing purge/exodus of core players by Seattle has been somewhat noteworthy: 2016: RB Marshawn Lynch ("retired"), LT Russell Okung (FA), LB Bruce Irvin (FA) 2017: K Steven Hauschka (I had to throw him in here) 2018: DE Cliff Avril (retired), DE Michael Bennett (traded on the cheap), CB Richard Sherman (FA), SS Kam Chancellor (retired) 2019: FS Earl Thomas (can't get out of Seattle fast enough) And they keep on making the playoffs. So much for rebuilding.
  13. This. The Bills structured Murphy's contract with an out for this offseason. Cutting him before the 5th day of the league year will leave the Bills with a $3.5M cap hit, freeing up $5M to be put toward someone who can make more of a contribution.
  14. Totally agree. For example, say Mel Kiper proclaimed that if Jimmy Clausen wasn't a successful QB within 8 years, Kiper would retire... it would be totally fair to wonder what Kiper's still doing there today, 9 years later. “If Jimmy Clausen is not a successful quarterback in the NFL, I’m done. That’s it. I’m out.” Replied McShay: “What is your time frame, Mel? When do we make that assessment?” Kiper: “I want eight years.” McShay: “It will only take three years, Mel. We can tell inside three years.” Kiper: “I want eight.” https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2018/4/19/17226834/mel-kiper-jimmy-clausen-nfl-draft-bet
  15. For most of my Bills fandom, I've found myself wondering why the hell we hired the guy we hired & why we kept him around for so long. I was happy to see them pull the plug on Rex as quickly as they did, though hiring him in the first place was beyond idiotic.
  16. My cuts would be: Trent Murphy - his contract was structured with an out this offseason if they don't think he's worth $8.5M/yr. Cap savings of $5M. Cutting Clay saves us $4.5M. Ivory & McCoy are both on the wrong side of 30 and will save us another $8.6M combined. That's a cool $18M added to our FA fund.
  17. Agreed, and I don't believe McDermott & Beane would hold a grudge over that.
  18. Are you certain about Brown just because he chose to sign with Flacco/Ravens last season, or is there something more to the story?
  19. Growing up a Bills fan in South Jersey (Eagles territory), I laughed heartily when the Jets signed Kotite to be their HC.
  20. $3 WR John Brown $1 WR Lil' Adam Humphries $3 TE Demetrius Harris $3 C Mitch Morse $3 OT Trent Brown $2 DT Mo Wilkerson
  21. He's been mentioned, but this was intended to be about the picks that bothered you the most at the time they were made. Brady should be the 20/20 hindsight pick for just about every team, though I personally had no idea who he was in 2000.
  22. Yeah, that definitely sucked. I don't remember Gronk being on my radar, but I hated the Troup pick. Troup also had back problems in college. They might not have been the same exact back problems that ended his career, but that's just splitting hairs. Yes, hard to think of a worse pick than Maybin. I remember being a fan of Vilma & DJ Williams in that draft.
  23. Greedy Williams is kinda funny. Lil' Jordan, obviously. And Demarcus Christmas may or may not be a limo driver during the offseason. Edit: And Deebo Samuels is funny if he rides a beach cruiser & has a chicken coop.
  24. Which non-Bills' pick stung you the most on draft day? Was it a player you really wanted, taken one spot before us? A seemingly great pick by the Jets or Dolphins? A guy from your alma mater, snatched up by the Patriots in the middle of the day? A Long-Snapper who broke your heart? My #1 has to be the Panthers taking Kuechly @ 9 in '12, just one pick before us. A lot of mocks had us taking Mark Barron, so I was relieved when the Bucs picked him. My relief was soon replaced with horror at the announcement of the Panthers' pick. Remember that Christmas Eve '11, 40-14 beatdown of the Tebow/McGahee Broncos? It made the holiday that much more enjoyable for many of us... but it came with a price. Honorable mention to the Patriots fielding a ~75% Rutgers secondary for the past 6 years.
