  1. great work as always, Erik. Roman's play-calling and design is so impressive, from seeing it drawn up to watching it be executed.
  2. After the positive feedback and suggestions from the first film breakdown session, we looked at Shaq Lawson and how he fits with the Bills. We broke down his games against Alabama (final game w/ shoulder injury in National Championship), Notre Dame (vs. No. 6 overall pick Ronnie Stanley) and Florida State (the game he suffered the injury). As I previously stated, any suggestions to make this better or more interesting are appreciated, and feel free to let me know what players/topics you guys would be interesting in watching. Enjoy! http://buildingtheherd.com/film-room/shaq-lawson-film-breakdown/
  3. Robert Woods on Offense. I think in the right system he could be one of the league's best No. 2/borderline #1 wideouts. On defense, I'd have to say Preston Brown. IMO he had an average season that was turned into an "awful" season after narratives of big whiff plays.
  4. thanks for the input. And yeah, we know how the pats quick game to their RBs in the flat has killed us-even NYG game for ex. so have to be able to chase that down which is why I brought up NE, but we talked about pursuit angles and read-react ability which is a strength. He's not flawless, and for those that really follow my work know that I'm a Ragland fan boy so I tried to show the negatives in there as well.
  5. So I decided to start a "Film Room" video series with live commentary and breakdowns of Bills rookies, players, concepts, etc. with Rich Fann of BuffaloWins.com, who, if you're on Twitter is a must follow (@RDotDeuce) he's a great guy, football coach and knows his stuff. My video production skills are at a 5th grade level, and this was our first one, so don't be too harsh. However, the commentary gives a good look at the strengths and weaknesses of Ragland's game and how he'll fit within Rex's scheme. We're gonna keep these all around 30 mins or so, with 2 games for each, and will be looking at not only players, but schemes, plays, etc. Here's the link if you're interested. Be sure to cut some slack on the first episode...if we're still jumbling around by the 3rd one, then you can bust out all the jokes you want Enjoy and if possible, let me know how we can improve, which topics/players you want to see, anything that we can do to make this something you'd regularly check out. Thanks! http://buildingtheherd.com/film-room/reggie-ragland-film-breakdown/
  6. I definitely will be at some point, I'll have to figure out which dates and meet up with some of you guys if possible!
  7. http://buildingtheherd.com/commentary/6-way-early-buffalo-bills-training-camp-predictions-offense/ Feel free to provide your thoughts to these topics in the comments!
  8. Thanks. Def agree with the continuity and getting more time with Tyrod. Whole offseason has been spent talking about him needing to work the middle of the field. Now's the time I don't think I understand what you mean here.
  9. http://buildingtheherd.com/commentary/charles-clay-breakout/
  10. I'm pretty sure they extended him because he wasn't going to come unless he got a new deal.
  11. Oh I wasn't speaking to the reputation of not being cheap, I mentioned that difference in the post with Pegula having the cash on hand for signing bonuses as a benefit. So the guys that are in house and see them getting taken care of know what's up. I wouldn't say the rest of the league is ready to come to Buffalo, though. At least yet
  12. Those of you that follow my writing know that I like to stick to breakdowns and X's and O's types of posts. But this little episode with people getting worked up because Stephon Gilmore didn't show up to a voluntary mini-camp and the Bills leaked it while contract talks are going on is disgraceful. I've been working on this piece for a few days now, but when the news broke i decided to change the angle of it to address some things that I think matter for every franchise, but even more for one that's operated (financially) in the way that the Bills have.to It's not about spending money, it's spending the right money. Premier players at premier positions that aren't older than 26 when signing the deal. Glenn, Dareus, Gilmore fit all of these categories, and get bonus points for being drafted by the team. If the Bills had any sort of reputation, they'd likely take a small percentage less to stay in BUF than move, but we know how this team has been viewed. What's their reputation been for the last few years? You've got a rogue GM that cant get along with a head coach, You've got a defensive mutiny against one of the greatest defensive coaches of the last 20 years. You draft a guy at 19 overall qith questions about an injured shoulder. Your GM does his cocky smirk and says "nah, he's cleared idk where you got that." Proceeds to "aggravate it" while pushing a tackle dummy, requiring surgery thatll keep him out for at least 6 weeks. 2 Hours later Sammy Watkins breaks his foot. Have a positive news release that should've came out last year tbh and #PayGillyAllTheMillys. Anyway, it's a bit of a long read but hope you enjoy it or take something from it that we can chat about in the comments. http://buildingtheherd.com/commentary/stephon-gilmore-bills-deal/
  13. trait-based analysis of rookie WR Kolby Listenbee. I think he has the skills to potentially develop into more than *just* a deep threat. GIFs are included as always to support my thoughts, so as always, I'd love to hear yours! http://buildingtheherd.com/scout-team/kolby-listenbee-bills/
  14. Look at New England's front 7. I'd say they're someone interchangeable. Preston Brown is a bit more athletic, but I also think that Zach Brown will have a pretty significant role as well. Remember, Ragland played a lot of DE on third and long situations at Bama in subpackages, so I think the whole "three down LB" thing is overblown. Rex's D is pattern matching so even if he has to cover a Gronk or a slot, he eventually passes him off to the next defender at the top of the route stem. Also think people forget just how good Preston was in coverage as a rookie. Look at all the fake double A Gap pressures Rex had him and Nigel showing last year. Hard to get depth in your drop when you're constantly on the LOS pre-snap. Just my thoughts, and as always, thanks for reading!
  15. yeah, there's not really a true WILL in Rex's scheme, it was originally called the TED with the Ravens, but went to W with the Jets. They're basically flipped but the roles can be switched depending on off. personnel, motion, etc.

  17. He doesn't have the athleticism to play in coverage as a 34 OLB. Think He's strictly a 4-3 LDE that's spectrum is a Derrick Shelby>Robert Ayers>Chris Long at best
  18. I agree there. The Watt comp makes zero sense, especially considering Watt had almost the same combine as Bosa weighing 40 lbs more. Bosa is a 4-3 LDE who *might* be able to kick inside in nickel, but I don't see him as a 10 sack guy at all. Solid player, good run defender, good technique, but not explosive, and not much bend/twitch to his game
  19. I took a look at some of the top 10 boom or bust players in the draft. Who else do you guys think fit this label? Anybody on here you disagree with? I think a lot will say Darron Lee, but really don't see the coverage ability that many do. Let me know what you think! http://buildingtheherd.com/scout-team/10-boom-bust-prospects-2016-nfl-draft/
  20. Like it! Think Sterling Shepard is perfect for this O and helps Tyrod over middle. Jarran Reed at the nose lets you move Dareus around. Ngakoue would be perfect situational rusher early and bring some depth
  21. Seconded. Erik is one of my favorite new follows on twitter, love chatting/debating with him. Dude knows his stuff and really puts the work in. P.S. being new to the message board, idk if I'm allowed to do this so delete it if I'm not, but i also do a lot of draft coverage, and if any of you are interested, I have about 60 scouting reports on Bills-centric prospects at BuildingTheHerd.com http://buildingtheherd.com/category/scout-team/scouting-reports/ Also, stumbling across this message board, I really appreciate you guys sharing some of my work. Looking forward to chatting with you all! All-22 Breakdown of Roman's passing concepts right here ---> http://buildingtheherd.com/film-room/greg-romans-passing-concepts-in-buffalo-bills-offense-an-all-22-breakdown/ i don't want to keep plugging my stuff here so you click the scheme breakdowns tab and there's posts on run concepts, safety play, linebacker play as well.
  22. I didn't mean to say that as I was making some bold statement and I didn't intend for the article to say "only draft these players." if it came off that way I apologize. With the new information available and the "analytics wave" I thought it'd be an interesting tool to look at considering the amount of players that had success vs. those that didn't. This isn't to say that tape/character/effort, etc. doesn't matter, but more as a supplement to film study to sort of confirm what your eyes see. . There will always be outliers, but I don't think it's a coincidence that the best pass rushers based on sack totals are generally fantastic athletes.
  23. It's a basic ACL injury as I stated in the article. Didn't tear multiple ligaments and there isn't any reported structural/nerve damage. He tore it in the 5th week of the season so that's the timetable. Didn't prevent St. Louis from taking Gurley. He's more than just a "box" guy or a hard hitter, he's rangy, versatile and could wear a lot of hats in Rex's defense. Wouldn't shock me at all, especially considering the depth at WR/DL in the draft this year.
