Interesting aftermath to last nights drubbing. Shawn Kelley got nicked up for a few runs in the 9th and had issues with the umps over how fast he was pitching. After he gave up a HR he had a mini-tantrum and threw his glove to the ground. Today the Nat's DFA's him. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/24253305/washington-nationals-dfa-shawn-kelley-throwing-tantrum-mound So somehow the Nat's managed to come away from a 25-4 whitewash of the Mets with a slightly bad taste in their mouth.

My son just pointed out that it's been a historical year for the Mets. They opened the season with their best start ever and now they have their most lopsided defeat ever.
-
First three pitchers for the Mets had the following ERA for the game: Matz: 94.03 Rhame: 27.00 Petersen: 20.77 Conclusion: we're trending in the right direction. EDIT: jumped the gun: Bashlor: 40.30

At the end of the game yesterday Gary mentioned this amazing factoid. The last time the Mets won a 1-0 game in Pittsburgh with the pitcher knocking in the only run was 1969. And it happened twice in the same day. Koosman knocked in the run in the first game of the double-header. Not sure who got the RBI in the nightcap.

On the broadcast last night Gary said that although the Mets were taking phone calls on their starting pitching, they weren't inclined or looking to make a deal. The other interesting thing I saw last night is that Kilome was ranked the 10th best prospect in the Phillies system and now he's ranked the 5th best in the Mets system.

Great posts, my favs have been the pop stuff I forgot about (i.e. - Dido). Nothing mainstream here. The ska/rock/punk thing was great

A solid player for the Mets. Surprising power, played through injuries and seemed like a good clubhouse influence. He was the guy who came up with removing the batting helmet of the HR hitter when he got back to the dugout.

You sound like a great advocate for the kids. One of my sons falls out of the "range of normalcy” socially. I think it bothers/worries his Mom and I but not him.

My wife makes lists. I ignore her lists. This rarely goes well for me, but I live for that blissful time between when the list is made and she realizes I've ignored it.

Saw/heard the show last week. Had heard of the Pixies, didn't know them, listened from the parking lot, mistake. Sounded great, maybe better than Weezer. Weezer were (was?) good, but would have been better closer or in a smaller venue. For the record the only time I liked/tolerated that a-ha song was in Family Guy Boyst62 - thanks for the Inexperience tip. Didn't work for me this time, hopefully next!

I was in the other room, but my son told me that when Cabrera hit his HR in the 4th there was a guy in a blue #12 football jersey a row or two past where it landed. He thought it was a Kelly jersey, I can't imagine it wasn't. Lets Go Mets. Go Bills.

?? But I feel like it needs more. AJ's response seems obvious but I need help with Josh. Peterman: You guys see Poyers wife? AJ: Has he seen mine? Josh (thought bubble):

Ideally you would target a position like catcher. But there could be better prospects at other positions available and in the end it's about maximizing your return. We don't need to bring the next Beef-on-Plawecki

According to SNY's Andy Martino, Wheeler might be on the move soon and could net a top 10 prospect: https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-trade-rumors-roundup-zack-wheeler-drawing-heavy-interest-yankees-and-blue-jays-could-expand-potential-j-a-happ-deal/

Bautista has been a model citizen for the Mets. He plays hard and has gotten some clutch hits. His age shows in the outfield but the effort is there. My guess is he'll get traded in a waiver deal after the trade deadline and closer to when the rosters expand. He probably looks better on a bad Mets team than he would on a contender.

On the radio pre-game Howie mentioned that it had been 17 series without a win.

Red Sox just traded a 25 year old Triple-A southpaw for Nathan Eovaldi whose numbers this year look pretty similar to Wheeler's: Eovaldi/Wheeler Age: Both 28 Games started: 10/19 ERA: 4.26/4.33 WHIP: .982/1.303 IP: 57/114 Strikeouts: 53/109 Walks: 8/41 Hits: 48/108 I think you're right about Girardi. I had heard he was tough on Sanchez to begin with since they are both catchers. Strange thing about Sanchez/Boone was the two lazy plays happened in the 1st and 9th innings. They were both pretty bad, but I thought the 1st was worse. And if he WAS hurt, Boone could've pulled him after the 1st.

If I was quicker on the draw I probably would've gone with something from Rage Against the Machine. But I don't think Everclear has gotten any love yet. Could've gone with Heroin Girl, but I'll break the rules and go with a song from 2000 from a 90's band: Another favorite 90's song from a genre I don't listen too very much:

If it is he went out in style and boosted his trade value. I always want to hoard starting pitching, it took me a long time to give up on Harvey. Before tonight I was already against trading Wheeler based on his performance this year (Matz too). Not sure what Wheeler could bring back, but ever since we traded Beltran for Wheeler in 2011 we've been waiting for him to pitch well. Now that he's doing that is it best to cut and run? Would we be trading him at his peak or will he be the next Murphy/Turner? I certainly don't know, but I'm still in favor of rolling with Jake/Noah/Matz/Wheeler for another year.

Do you find the "Saints" name/logo offensive?

And their latest mess (GM-by-committee) was on full display this weekend: https://www.newsday.com/sports/columnists/david-lennon/yankees-mets-subway-series-1.20052776 One of my favorite lines at work is "Do you know what a camel is? - It's a horse that was designed by committee." I don't have a strong opinion on the Familia trade and I hope it turns out well, but it looks like what they did attempted to serve different masters: Wilpons: not eating any of Familia's contract Minaya: adding international signing pool money Not sure who part I: adding a pitcher who is near major league ready Not sure who part II: adding a development prospect.

I don't understand where you're going with that. The hitting coach mouths off to the ump and the manager should get himself tossed? Seemed like the umps were a bit trigger happy today. My assumption is the Mets were chirping a lot last night and today. Two different umps tossed guys today. I wonder if the third base ump was behind the plate last night.
-
I know nothing of Keith Law, but using the Familia trade as fodder to compare the Wilpons to McCourt is utterly ridiculous. Nobody in the mainstream media thought Familia would bring back much of a return. Now that it didn't (assuming you believe that) MLB should take the team away from the owners? Or is his point that the Wilpons/Mets are nearing bankruptcy and that had something to do with the deal? Keith Law is the one who should be embarrassed. BTW: I agree that the Wilpons are cheap owners and a bad fit for a big market team. But how that intersects with the Familia trade is beyond me.

After being held out of a save situation, looks like Jeurys may be the first to go. Rumors are it's to the A's.

Probably not what you had in mind row, but this is definitely something I've never seen. Bad enough the home plate ump was asleep at the wheel, but the first base ump too? Might be more than meets the eye going on here.
