Scully is the play by play gold standard, Great announcer, 101% class act. Stinking '88 Brooklyn L.A. Dodgers never should have made it past my Mets let alone the A's. Mets and A's were better, Dodgers beat them both. Don't get me started on the Scioscia HR or Mickey freakin' Hatcher. It's what makes sports great.. Here's Kirk Gibson making a great catch in the NLCS.

Well nobody's been asking when Yoenis will come back so that's a good sign. The biggest positives for me are Pete Alonso's strong start, DeGrom picking up where he left off and the bullpen going from bad to good. Based on the first week there's no reason to think this team can't compete all year. A big concern is the back end of the rotation. Take away Wheelers second half last year and there's more concern than there is confidence in Wheeler, Matz and Vargas.

Mets have a new subscription plan. For $39/month you can go to any game you want, standing room only. But you better have a plan to get there cheaply, parking is probably around $25.

In small part due to Dom Smiths's either shy or dry bladder: https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-sports-dominic-smith-drug-test-delays-flights-20190404-ukcjpablnzboti6l3vmyuizv5i-story.html

Good news. I also heard they did a brain scan on Mickey and found nothing. On a more serious note, I'd like to know if/why Familia wasn't available to close out tonight.

MLB viewing for 2019 (intended)

It was a hot topic on NYC sports radio today. I don't have a problem spelling Alonso, but just like sitting McNeil after a big day the timing is pretty bad. -

Your dog is eating and happy and showing no signs of pain. It sounds like your family has a shared responsibility that hasn't become an undue burden. That's awesome. Until either circumstance changes I'd be inclined to ride it out.

Robin Lehner on playing in Buffalo & Buffalo Fans
SinceThe70s replied to Reed83HOF's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'm an Islander fan and wonder whether his perception of Buffalo negativity is influenced by the self-admitted substance-abuse/bipolar/depression issues that he was dealing with in Buffalo. The Newsday article presents him in a different mind frame than his post to The Athletic. -

Nice rules clarification. I feel like I've heard that before but wouldn't have come up with it on my own. Not sure who was announcing but last year I couldn't stomach the Sunday night crew. If I heard them say "ambush" one more time I would've had to check the Best Buy circulars for a deal on a new TV. -

He's played well this year. I wasn't aware of his shoot-out problems, but I haven't noticed any problem with that. After giving up the most goals in the league last year, defense has been a major emphasis and obviously Lamoriello/Trotz have had a positive impact. Lehner has been rotating with Greiss who has also played well. I think they have both been good but also benefited from the system. -
It's not just more demoralizing, it's more productive. I've been eviscerated by good friends for this opinion but I had a problem with Sanders dancing behind the line. He put the Lions into long down and distance way too often for me. His balance and agility were beyond compare, no doubt an all-time great talent, just not my top RB for that reason. I can't go with Jim Brown simply because I never saw him play. By all accounts he's a great choice, maybe the best. OJ is at the top of my list and Earl and Bo get honorable mentions because they were freakishly dominating but I'll go with Sweetness. A remarkable combination of everything you want in a RB. He did it all.

We had Charlie Weis pegged as the Grimace back when he was walking the Giants sideline behind Parcells. -
Another stat from today that I just came across. DeGrom had 10 strikeouts and Scherzer had 12. First time since 1970 that opening day starters each had 10 or more strikeouts (Dave McNally and Sudden Sam McDowell). That's really surprising to me. Nearly half a century.

Mets had 5 hits today...4 of them came from guys who never had a hit for the Mets before today. DeGrom picks up where he left off last year and Calloway does the smart thing and limits him to 93 pitches. And I just noticed that Lugo struck out all three batters he faced.

I heard Mickey on the way home today. Alonso is starting against the righty tomorrow and will bat high in the order, probably 2nd or 3rd.

Padres did the same thing with Fernando Tatis Jr. I'm not sure if any team held back a rookie to gain an extra year of control. This is pure speculation on my part, but with the collective bargaining agreement up for renegotiation in 2021 maybe the owners plan on giving up the service time loop-hole.
