For most leagues the collective winning percentage is .500. Not so with the NHL where the collective winning percentage is currently (assuming I did the math right) at .560. Logically I have a problem with having more winning teams than losing teams. Emotionally I'm not OK with handing out a winner 'trophy' based on same. I love hockey, but I stopped looking at wins/losses/ties awhile ago. Points and games played/remaining are what matter to me - and yes I understand that a regulation win counts more than an OT win for tie-breaker - for now I put that in the same category as many NFL tie-breakers, be aware but worry about it when it matters.

All good, but then how do you define having a winning record? Usually it's more wins than losses and there's a tacit assumption - at least on my part - that there will be as many teams with winning records as there are with losing records. Not the case with the NHL. It devalues the notion of having a winning record IMO.

Not sure exactly why you think the league is run so badly - but if your point is that teams are incentivized to play for a tie towards the end of tie games I agree.

This doesn't qualify as backyard birding, but back in January my two sons and I were playing a round of disc golf at Heckscher State Park on Long Island - it's right on the Great South Bay. It was a foggy day to begin with that got progressively worse and then as it got late in the day and was getting dark visibility was ridiculously low. The course was empty and there were no bikers or dog walkers. Not gonna lie - it was getting kind of creepy without what happened next. Walking between holes there's a marshy area that you cross and all of a sudden to our left we here this extremely loud noise, look over through the fog and can barely make out a freaking huge bird taking off to fly away from us. I'm gonna guess it was 10 yards away but it all happened so fast and was so disconcerting that I can't say for sure - except that this bird was freaking huge and close and the flapping wings was loud. After consultation with an expert - my sister who does a lot of boating on the Great South Bay - the operative guess is it was a Great Blue Heron (up to 6 foot wingspan) but honestly there's no way to know for sure, could have been a pterodactyl as far as I was concerned. Good times.

Pit Bulls are so cuddly!!! Breed more of them.
SinceThe70s replied to BringBackFergy's topic in Off the Wall
I've been following along at home cuz I think this is an interesting topic - and (like most topics) I'm not entrenched in the side I lean towards. I lean towards distrusting the breed - but it's anecdotal, I've never actually witnessed a bad incident. I have a friend with a pit rescue. He views the dog as a harmless adorable lap dog. I view it as a dog that has a generally good temperament, but could be better disciplined - but cuz it's a pit I wonder if it'll go off the deep end if it's unhappy. I actually put the dog in it's place a few months ago. My friend thought the dog felt offended, I wondered whether I had crossed it's line - nothing happened but I do not trust that dog, Very few breeds that I feel that way about. -

Chiefs-Bills trade that landed Kansas City Patrick Mahomes

Yup - not interested in your line of questioning. I'm happy to hold my opinion - and equally happy for you to hold yours. -

In essence they did when they failed to draft Mahomes. Don't get me wrong, I understand why some Bills fans enjoy the self-flagellation over the trade - very similar to the hand-wringing about not drafting Brady well after the fact. To each their own. -

What about the teams that drafted 1-9? BTW, nice memory wrt @jeffismagic I seem to recall a few other people lobbying for Mahomes and the debate swirling around the Air Raid offense and whether it would translate to the NFL. We'll always be linked to Mahomes due to the trade out of 10 - but that's hindsight. If his greatness was so obvious he never would have made it to 10 - let alone past Mitch Trubisky. -
When healthy: we were the best team in the league.

ANNIHILATED!!! How bad would the loss have been? More than 6 points? -
What is your level of patience on not advancing to the Super Bowl?
SinceThe70s replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
Or maybe this? To be clear I am not fully in Sean's corner - I think it's a great point of debate on both sides of the coin. But the insistence on one side that Sean is destined to be Marty II with no acknowledgement that any other outcome is possible is an exceedingly weak argument imo. History suggests to me that either outcome is possible. -
Great song. Love this cover:

What is your unpopular Bills opinion?
SinceThe70s replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
I tip my hat to folks who change their opinion - I don't think there's anything of interest discussed here that is inherently right or wrong. -

Counterpoint: Jane you ignorant slut! Folks who think Josh Allen is not good enough are akin to the folks who didn't give Elway his props until he took home the Lombardi late his career. Elway was actually a better QB and more than 'good enough' well before he got the hardware. -

From what I can tell from this thread both the McDermott supporters and the McDermott haters think they're opinion is unpopular. My unpopular Bills opinion is that many Bills fans are so entrenched in their opinions that they lose perspective. -

The way I felt for so many games this year: Sheer Heart Attack -
Patriots for me, but Chiefs are climbing the ladder. I have a college friend who is a Pats fan. He was insufferable during the Brady years.

That stinks....I ran a box pool years ago and I split the final payout between 4th quarter and final score. I don't remember the numbers but I made sure that the final still paid the most.

Its Pretty Obvious why the Chiefs win every year

Do you think what SF has at HC is acceptable? -
An ill-advised moment for him that is utterly meaningless - unless Andy Reid thinks otherwise.

Not disagreeing with any of this but what's missing for me is the props for the KC defense. Pretty sure they didn't give up 30 all year. Underrated part of their success this year imo. -
Dropping back in to show appreciation for the the responses (I watched one God awful contribution from beginning to end) and add another fave that includes notable B actress Mary Woronov.
