Not sure if this is a true story but in a Giants/Redskins game back in the day legendary stadium announcer Bob Sheppard called a tackle as: Sandwiched! By Hanburger and Bacon. FTR that was Redskins Chris Hanburger and Coy Bacon.

Great year and great run for sure. Completely unexpected going into the season and even moreso after the horrible start. Still, I can't shake the feeling that it was a missed opportunity. But then I look at the run diferential against the Dodgers (46-26) and realize they were fortunate to make it as far as they did.

2024 New York Yankees..........on to the World Series for 41st time

As a Mets fan I was not too happy to see the Judge/Ohtani promo last night. If the Mets lose it was all part of MLB's master plan (takes tongue out of cheek). -
Just the opposite for me. After witnessing my sons college teams win (Hokies and Terps) I'm looking for the trifecta. Gotta figure out how to get the Bills radio broadcast tomorrow as I'll be driving back home.

I'm like Coach from Cheers - when I pick up the phone there's nobody on the other end because the ringing was in my head.

I've posted this before, does this count as Bills related?

Audioslave and Warren Miller. What's not to like?

I hear ya, no doubt they've exceeded my expectations as well and that plays a big part. Beyond that, this team's resilience has been remarkable and that played a part too.

@ExWNYer @Another Fan @Gugny Todays win was reminiscent of the '86 series against the Astros. Two chances to win one game but with Mike Scott/Zack Wheeler on tap for the 2nd chance it felt like a must win. I was uncharacteristically calm when the Mets blew chance after chance early in the game and then went down 1-0. Hats off to Suarez, what a great/gutty performance. And my uncharacteristic calm quickly turned to characteristic dread when Diaz couldn't find the strike zone. Watched the game with my just- turned-88 mom. Good times.

What's on your Mt. Rushmore of Halloween/Horror Movies?

I was a bigger fan of tongue-in-cheek horror movies like: Return of the Living Dead Creepshow Re-Animator Evil Dead II -
The Wendy's Krabby Patty should be a crab cake sandwich.

I think they're playing the long game with Senga. They got a few innings out of him and that looked like the plan going in. If the Mets make a sustained run he could possibly help. On a personal note this game was awesome. Had an impromptu facetime with our two sons that started in the first inning and lasted through the last out. Good times.

I'm speechless.

Thanks, much appreciated. I'm always interested in tips/tricks/advice from folks i know rather than relying on the interwebs. And not necessariy what I'd think to ask but what folks tell (good or bad). Is Zeppoli's by the Krogers near campus or the huge Kroger's on South Main Street further from campus? I was shocked when I saw that one had an open bar. A grocery store with a bar was a first for me. All that aside it's about damn time we got a run!!!

Thanks for the well wishes, it's been a helluva last two weeks with my son but everythjing is trending positively. And damn, nice VT coincidence, what a small world. I also have a nephew who graduated in 2023! I'd be interested in any tips/tricks/advice yo have for VT and the Blacksburg area, We're headed back down in two weeks for a scheduled visit. VT/BC on Thursday and then on to my older son and Maryland/USC on Saturday. They needed to put the Brewers away last night with Montas on the mound. When they went up 3-0 I was thinking they had to get to 5 runs. 100% agree on leaving Manaea in an extra inning. I was 50/50 on Diaz in the 8th but you just knew the top of teh order was too much for Maton. Shoudl have pulled him after the single. I may have given Stanek the chance to go two like he did with Butto. All may have been moot if he had gotten another inning out of Manaea. In fairness to Mendoza he doesn't have great options out of the pen. And in hindsight I wish we had Megill as a late inning option over the no name (Krasnick). Also 100% agree on Alonso. I remember seeing one of those strike zone charts for Pete in 2023 and it showed that the vast majority of his HR's were on pitches down the middle. He was hitting mistakes which is fine regular season, not so much against better post-season pitching. It'd be sad to see the lovable lug-nut go, but probably money spent better elsewhere. LGM!

I won't claim to know who makes the call, but I would expect it comes from Beane - or Micah's agent. No clue who Alex Brasky is but I think it's odd that he paraphrases that McD "likes what they have" and then quotes "You know how we feel about Micah.” Makes me question whether the quote and paraphrase came from the same 'interview' and whether I should care what he posted anymore than the speculative posts we get on 2BD.

For reasons I won't bore you with I was holed up at a vrbo rental this weekend with not much to do but a rooting interest in a football game each day. Friday night was a great game that didn't end well, Saturday afternoon was an OK game that didn't end well and we all know what happened on Sunday night. The real proof of the curse of the vrbo rental came on Monday when we left it for a hotel tonight and the Mets beat the Braves in Atlanta to make the playoffs. Afaik, that's unprecedented. That vrbo was a house of horrors for me sports-wise and I apologize to everyone that I've wronged.

Two Pete memories: I'll never forget watching Pete take out Bud Harrelson and the ensuing melee in the 1973 playoffs. I was at the game when Pete tied Tommy Holmes NL hitting streak record. Mets starter Pat Zachry had gotten him out twice and was p!ssed. Coming off the field I noticed him fall into the dugout - he tried to kick something, slipped and was out for an extended period. Great player, not a fan of the man. RIP.

Unbelievable! I didn't see any of it, but you can thank me anyway. I've been at my sons college since last week - he broke his collarbone and had surgery on Friday - we rented an airbnb for his recovery an on Friday night watched his school (Va Tech) lose in excruciating fashion, on Saturday we watched my other sons school lose which will make it very difficult to get a bowl bid and then last night, well enough said! That rental property was a house of horrors sports-watching wise. Had we stayed an extra day the Mets would surely have lost. Now let's knock the Braves out!!!!!

I'm pretty sure that whoever wins game 1 is in the playoffs. Game 2 probables are Severino and Sale. I'll be surprised if both start.
