Every has-been or never-was is mentioned as a backup for the Bills. Jeff Garcia, Brad Johnson, Kurt Warner, Jay Fiedler and Kordell Stewart among others have all been mentioned. There are reasons these guys are all available. They stink. They are washed up. They are overpaid. They still think they can start in the NFL. They think they should get multi-million dollar deals even if it's to hold a clipboard. The Bills do not have lots of cap space to make a mistake and overpay a backup QB. I like the Bills idea of going with Shane Mathews as the backup. They can always find a cheap backup somewhere else as well (CFL, NFL Europe, Draft a Qb in the late rounds, undrafted free agents, the Arena League, training camp cuts), it doesn't have to be an overpaid bum.

What Effect Does the WNY Economic Climate Have?
kasper13 replied to Alaska Darin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are still 951,000 people living in Erie County. The Erie County Budget is over $1.1 BILLION for 2005. They have to cut $130 million worth of unnecessary fat from the government and the politicians are all either stupid or making a big spectacle of the whole thing just so they will not have to trim down the governement and their paychecks . It's not all doom and gloom as some make it out to be. True, Property taxes are 42% higher in Erie County than the National average. The cost of living is lower but the taxes are still high. Not much different than anywhere else in the country. -
Travis Henry holding up trade to Arizona
kasper13 replied to OnTheRocks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Henry doesn't deserve a long term deal. He has been hurt for most of the last two years and lost his starting job to McGahee and then did nothing but cry about it. He should be lucky some team is willing to take a chance on him. What he should do is shut his his mouth, prove that he can stay injury free and come close to what he did two & three years ago and then steal millions from Arizona or some other team. How does he figure he can negotiate a big, long term deal with anyone? -
They could both get automatic bids. Niagara has a bye into the Metro Atlantic Semifinals. The tournament is at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo so that's pretty much like Niagara is playing at home. They only need two wins to get in. UB has to be considered a favorite to win the Mid-America tournament. They have gotten hot at the right time. I would guess one of the two will get in, if not both.

I heard on WGR that ESPN reported Muhammed signed with the Bears. Players cut by a team can sign with any other team before March 2nd. (i.e. Drew Bledsoe signing with Dallas and Muhammed with the Bears)

Woodson signs franchise tender for $10.5 M
kasper13 replied to Live&DieBillsFootball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good. I hope they go $50 million over and have to cut all but a handful of players and have to sign 41 guys to minimum contracts. Their team will consist of Moss, Porter, Collins, Woodson and 41 rookies and reject free agents. -
None of that makes any sense at all for the Bills at this point unless they get Woodson for Henry and a pick and then trade Woodson somwhere else for something. Why are the Bills the middleman and what do we turn that into? I can't believe any of it because the Raiders just signed Woodson to a one year, $10.5 million deal. Who the hell can afford that?

I couldn't even tell you who or what won what last year. I wouldn't watch that Celebrity Suck Fest for $100 bucks. Bunch of overpaid actors getting $50,000 worth of free stuff they don't need and winning useless awards that nobody cares about or remembers. Only in America.

Should bring back Jerry Butler & Frank Lewis while we are at it. They are about the same age as Rice.

This is sort of an OT topic. There is a web site- http://www.archive.org/ that takes you back to the early days of the internet. I don't know how they do it but it is pretty darn interesting. Only thing is you have to know the exact URL. They have a thing called the "Way Back Machine" and you type in the URL and it takes you back to the exact web site from whatever year they have archived. For example, I typed in www.buffalobills.com and it gave me a list of the actual Bills website as it looked on a given day from 1997-2004. The earliest is from December 1997. Just click on the day and back in time you go.

Bills prepared to let Jennings, PWilliams walk
kasper13 replied to nodnarb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sometimes you just have to move on. Signing Pat Williams for $5 million a year would be senseless. I thought he wanted to stay here no matter what. Guess not. Somebody should tell Pat that Buffalo Bills who leave to go play elsewhere for a few more dollars never do well. Just ask Marcellus Wiley, Peerless Price, Sam Cowart, Jeff Burris, Nate Odomes and all the rest. The money will be well spent elsewhere anyways. The loyalty to the almighty dollar rules sports these days. -
Travis Henry is an often injured backup RB. He hasn't been to Hawaii in three years. Actually getting a player instead of a draft pick is worth it and getting a huge OL that is a decent run blocker for an injured backup RB is more than worth it.

Drew Bledsoe Press Conference 4:00 pm ET
kasper13 replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I found it interesting that Bledsoe never said "JP Losman" instead he just referred to him as "the kid". Bledsoe is in deep denial but that was a standard press conference. He said basically the same things today that he said three years ago. He fooled the Bills and now he is fooling Dallas. The Cowboys are living in the past. Parcells. Bledsoe. Keyshawn Johnson and Terry Glenn. That would have been a decent set up about 8 years ago. Just about killed me when Bledsoe said he has some great targets in Johnson & Glenn. Hey, stupid, you had Eric Moulds & Lee Evans and you couldn't get the ball to them. I could care less what he thinks about the Bills now. Something just never felt right about that guy. Lots of people are talking about A-Rod and how he isn't a "true" Yankee. Bledsoe was never a true Buffalo Bill in my opinion. Maybe everyone wants the next Jim Kelly to be our QB. Todd Collins, Billy Joe Hobert, Doug Flutie, Rob Johnson and Drew Bledsoe certainly weren't even in the same league as Kelly. I can't wait to see what Washington's & Philadelphia's Defense do to Bledsoe. They will be scraping what's left of him off the turf with a shovel. I am very curious to see what kind of money Dallas wasted on Bledsoe. -
Steroids WILL help with recovery from injuries quicker, the ability to work out longer, harder and more often therby increasing one's strength in a shorter amount of time. Steroids will also prolong the length of a players career. Using steroids will turn doubles & fly outs into home runs. It will also make your head bigger (the one on your shoulders). I read Canseco's book and I think alot of it is fiction with some truth mixed in. Here's some truth- Bunch of players were in Las Vegas for an ESPN sponsored HR hitting contest in the Fall of 2000. Bonds saw Canseco and asked him how he got so big. Canseco told him. Spring Training of 2001 and Bonds shows up 40 lbs. bigger- all muscle- and a whole hat size bigger and hits 73 HR's when he never hit more than 50 in a season. Bonds was loaded with S-T-E-R-O-I-D-S. If someone doesn't believe that than they will never believe anything.

Why do we even care what Bledsoe does anymore? All I see are posts about how will his stats be?, what number will he wear? will the Bills play Dallas next year? and Thank you Drew nonsense. People seem to care just as much about him now than when he was wih the Bills. Enough already.

Drew Bledsoe signed by Dallas
kasper13 replied to Happy Days Lois & Clark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Dallas pays him a dollar. It's a dollar too much. -
I was 8 years old. I remember coming home from school and not being able to wait for the game to start. I watched it live on CBC at 4:30pm and then watched it on ABC later that night. Had to beg the babysitter to let me stay up and watch the game again on ABC even though I had already seen it. Can you believe that ABC didn't even show the game live? Unreal. Was hooked on hockey from that day on until this past week.

About how much are we talking for Vinateri anyways? Anyone else have the feeling that he would become just an average kicker in Buffalo just because of the whole Partiots-Bills Bledsoe thing?

Try a $25 million cap- if that. If anyone in the NHL thinks revenues will even approach 1/2 of what they were before, then they are on crack. Judging by the insanity these people showed off the last few days, they must be on something. They pissed off even the most hardcore fans today. They must not have believed that they were #5 of 5 in major sports and now they are even with Arena Football, Indoor Lacrosse and Soccer and sinking fast. Almost all of their revenue was from ticket sales. They threw most of that away this past week. Yet the owners are now saying they want to get a deal done by May 1st so they can sell season tickets. Someone should tell these people to stop sniffing glue. Nobody will buy season tickets after the crap that was pulled this week. When ESPN opts out of the last year of their contract, the NHL will not get a nickle in TV money. They should just fold the whole thing. The NHL is DEAD.
-
If Bledsoe would have been 1/10th as good as he seems to think he is he would still be here.
-
Nobody can get angry when the Bills raise their ticket prices by a couple bucks when you see the Patriots prices not to mention all of the other teams with their PSL's and $50 parking and whatever else. Bills are in the bottom of the league when it comes to ticket prices. I am even less angry. Mine went down to $25 a game. That's $34 cheaper than the Pats cheapest ticket. People better start to realize how good we have it when it comes to the Bills.
-
WTF????? Nothing like screwing fans over twice in one week. These people have to be really, really, really stupid. Any owner that doesn't want to play should get the F out of the league. Go ahead and fold the league for all I care. This really ticks me off. All these reports for the last day that it was a done deal and all the media that went to NY today, Announced at 3:30pm a press conference for 6pm to announce a done deal and by 4:20 it falls apart. Screw this. Maybe it's a NHLPA spin to not make themselves look any worse. Who cares at this point?

Bettman and Goodenow looked like real a-holes through this whole thing especially over the last few days. Since Mario Lemieux and Gretzky stepped in and got this done in less than two days, I think both Bettman and Goodenow will be thrown out on their behinds. I am pretty fired up that they are playing. Sabres fans have been kicked in the groin countless times over the last few years but we are still lucky to have a team here and the salary cap will certainly help out the Sabres in the long run. I think the worst is behind us (at least I hope so after all we have had to put up with) and I really hope Sabres fans will support the team even if they didn't like what the NHL had become and what happened with the lockout. There isn't a hell of alot to do in Buffalo in the Winter and the Sabres have always been important to the area. We have a good, young team and we have all our players signed (Boston has only 10 players signed to contracts for example) and a 28 game season will be exciting. Everyone says October through January hockey is boring anyways. I think the Sabres will do very well and I will definitley go to a few games and watch on TV (MSG Network will have all the games). Go Sabres!

Bledsoe Controversy in Dallas?
kasper13 replied to Arkady Renko's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't care where he goes. I just hope the Bills play whatever team he ends up with because that's a guaranteed win for us.
