  1. The Hoboken Daily Shopper reports that TD had dinner tonight at approximatley the same time as some other people somewhere. That's about as informative as the Simon/Bills Cap update.
  2. Great idea. They should have thought of it 3-4 years ago so it would be opening now. The Bills should do what most other teams are doing nowadays and have training camp at home. Just put some bleachers around the practice fields and have the night practices in the stadium. With the mini-camps, training camp practices, Hall of Fame, Stadium Tours, team store, fieldhouse, preseason & regular season games there would be more than enough to do and more than enough fans to support a Hall of Fame. Last check found Erie County had approximatley 942,000 residents. Down from 950,000 in 2000 and down from 968,000 in 1990.
  3. They should put in Thomas, Reed, Aikman and Irvin all next year and have the Bills play the Cowboys in the HOF Game. What a great time that would be. NFL will never take advantage of the marketing opportunity. They could also have the fans from the respective teams (and probably some players as well) in a free-for-all brawl/riot in the stadium on Saturday night. Put that on PPV. Mr. Wilson should have been elected to the HOF years ago. It's a damn disgrace that he is not in there.
  4. Right. Only if Simon played for free and Philly threw in T.O and he played for free as well. Honestly, why would the Bills get rid of one of their top offensive players for a defensive tackle that we really do not need? Philly expect McGahee to be a throw in in any deal? What morons. Maybe they have Evans confused with Josh Reed. As I said, they are morons.
  5. Everybody and their mother including Mel Kiper and his are reading WAY, WAY, WAY too much into one scrimmage. Mel Kiper is an idiot. So is John Clayton. You can make an argument that every single QB ever to play in the NFL is "iffy". He was 6-11. That's better than 50% yet he threw 5 incompletions, so he is streaky? Are QB's supposed to distribute their incompletions evenly? Mel's hair is on too tight.
  6. Duck! It was a frickin scrimmage. I wouldn't look bad in a scrimmage knowing I am not getting hit, can throw a football and know what color the Bills helmets are. How STUPID do you think TD & MM are? In the Lambeau Field locker room after the scrimmage: TD: "We named Losman the starter in February, got him TONS of press coverage, watched a few plays in a scrimmage in early August and then tommorrow we'll announce an open competition for the starting spot. We'll just announce it's based on Holcomb going against GB's lousy 2nd string defense and Losman looking good but not Jim Kelly great in a controlled scrimmage. What do you think Mike?" MM: "Yeah. that's a GREAT idea, Why not just wreck Losman's confidence for the rest of his career? Gee Tom, that's a really terrific idea. " Losman is the starter no matter how he looks in scrimmages, practices & preseason games. No announcements will be made on any sort of QB competition. The mere suggestion is just STUPID, STUPID, STUPID.
  7. What is the 'Sports Network'? Where are they out of?
  8. The Sabres, Sabres fans and Buffalo in general are really getting raked over at Eklund's Message Board. Especially by Leafs fans. I am getting pretty ticked off at those hosers.
  9. Here you go fellow Flyers Haters: Peter Forsberg UFA (Colorado) $5.75 million Mike Rathje UFA (San Jose) $3.5 million Derian Hatcher UFA (Detroit) $3.5 million Keith Primeau $3.42 million Eric Desjardins $2.28 million Michal Handzus $2.128 million Donald Brashear $1.748 million Mike Knuble $1.52 million Sami Kapanen $1.52 million Turner Stevenson $1.254 million Joni Pitkanen $900,600 Mattias Timander $608,000 Chris Therien UFA (Dallas) $500,000 Jon Sim UFA (Pittsburgh) $450,000 14 Players- $29,078,600 Jeff Carter Signed rookie deal Undisclosed Mike Richards Signed rookie deal Undisclosed Jeremy Roenick traded to Los Angeles for future considerations Restricted Free Agents: Robert Esche, Simon Gagne, Kim Johnsson, Randy Jones, Freddy Meyer, David Printz, Branko Radivojevic, Dennis Seidenberg, Patrick Sharp, Wade Skolney. Unrestricted Free Agents: John LeClair (Bought Out), Tony Amonte (Bought Out/Signed with Calgary), Sean Burke, Jeff Hackett, Claude Lapointe, Vladimir Malakhov (Signed with New Jersey), Marcus Ragnarsson, Alexei Zhamnov (Signed with Boston), John Slaney, Boyd Kane, Neil Little, Ryan Ready, Nick Deschenes, Jeff Smith, Radovan Somik, Peter White. Flyers are less than $10 million under the salary cap and have 8 players including two goalies to sign.
  10. Jennings was injury free alot longer than I thought he would be. A whole week into camp has to be a new record for him.
  11. Not a bad strategy...... but how many more frickin years do we have to wait? One season lost due to the lockout. Three straight season before that missing the playoffs. Now we are playing the waiting game again for 2006/07? BS. The future should be now. All the sabres need is one Top 4 Defensemen and one halfway decent goal scorer and that will not blow the budget or break Tom Golisano. Trade Biron or Norronen for someone and sign someone other than a washed up Teppo Numminen
  12. There isn't a cheap way to fly from Boston to Buffalo or Buffalo to Boston. It will cost you at least $229, if not more. Drive it. It'll take 7 hours tops and cost about $12-$15 in tolls. I went to Boston a couple weeks ago (from Buffalo) and drove instead of flying because of the cost. Cheapest airfare that I found was: US Airways- $295 Roundtrip, Non-stop, Coach, Economy Priceline- Non-Stop $354 One Stop (3 hours in Newark anyone?) $256 Two Stops $229 JetBlue needs to go Buffalo to Boston. Roundtrip Buffalo to NY City is less than $100
  13. Hello.....Numminen. That's the poor man's Smhelik. That's like signing Zhitnik 7 years from now. I wish we had him 15 years ago. What a joke.
  14. I just did this three weeks ago (in rush hour traffic both ways) 295 - Baltimore Washington Parkway, get off in Landover, park & ride, take the metro rail into Downtown DC. Took less than 40 minutes each way
  15. Lots more news. Seems like the Sabres are in a totally different league than the NHL with all the deals going down and the Sabres sitting on their behinds. Actual deals- Miroslav Satan signs with NY Islanders NY Islanders- Mike Peca traded to Edmonton for Mike York & a draft pick Vancouver- Brent Sopel (D) traded to NY Islanders for a draft pick Brian Leetch (D)- one year deal w/ Boston Bryan Berard (D)- signs with Columbus Mathieu Dandenault (D)- signs with Montreal Mathieu Schneider (D)- signs with Detroit Martin Rucinsky- signs with NY Rangers Martin Skoula (D)- signs with Dallas I hear Jason Woolley and Richard Smhelik are available- cheap. Rumors- Modano rejected Stars offer. Still trying to squeeze every dime out of someone (Boston?) First it was Forsberg to Vancouver, than it was Forsberg to Philadelphia. Stay Tuned. Apparently, Jeremy Roenick was traded to Los Angeles to make room for Forsberg Detroit is taking a pounding as is Colorado because they are already close to the cap limit.
  16. All the top line defensemen are gone except Brian Rafalski and Scott Niedermayer. Rafalski turned down a bunch of $3.5 million offers and Niedermayer will get $5-$6 million per season or more. Penguins, in fact, have been saved again. Don't forget, Sidney Crosby can only make a maxium of $850,000 per year for 3 years and Mario Lemieux can pay himself whatever he wants, even the league minimum, if it helps the team. Penguins are well under the cap and have sold out the season already. That's how Pittsburgh can sign Gonchar for 5 million and just about anyone else that wants to go there. Anyone confident in the Sabres chances with these 7 or 8 D-Men? Jay McKee, Dimitri Kalinin, Rory Fitzpatrick, Henrik Tallinder, Brian Campbell, Jeff Jillson, Doug Janik and James Patrick (if he signs) Following teams have not made any signings or trades since Monday afternoon Anaheim, Buffalo, Colorado, Minnesota, NJ Devils, Ottawa, San Jose, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Washington
  17. This is exactly what Zhitnik is: A real workhorse who logs a lot of ice time. He changed sticks a couple years ago and he can get the puck on the net now. He plays on the power play, kills penalties. He was the Sabres defensemen with, by far, the most ice time. He even cut way down on his mistakes and if he gets ticked off, he can be a big hitter. This one hurts more than letting Satan go. Defense is the Sabres biggest need and they just let their best defensemen go. $3.5 million a season is less than the Sabres offered him before the lockout and the Sabres saved $3.8 million by letting Satan go and they told Zhitnik he was not wanted here. Did we get anyone to replace Zhitnik? Hell no. Maybe Richard Smhelik will be available in Spetember. If Regier even has a plan, it really sucks so far.
  18. Zhitnik signed with the Islanders for 4 years, $14 million. That's $3.5 million per season. Sabres told him they did not want him back. I knew he would get between $3-$4 million per season and the Sabres would not pay that. More Free Agent signings this evening: Boston- Dave Scatchard Calgary- Tony Amonte, Darren McCarty Carolina- Cory Stillman Florida- Martin Gelinas LA Kings- Pavol Demitra NY Rangers- Martin Straka, Marek Malik Ottawa- Martin LaPointe Mike Modano did a 180 and resigned with Dallas for 5 years. Apparently, his boyfriend did not want to move to Boston. Tons of rumors from- http://hockeyrumors.blogspot.com/ Some of the more interesting rumors tonight are: Scott Niedermayer to Anaheim, Edmonton or Pittsburgh Satan to Chicago, LA, Montreal or Toronto Peter Forsberg to Boston, Montreal, NY Rangers Nikolai Khabibulin to Chicago Jason Allison to Toronto Paul Karyia to Edmonton, Montreal or LA Chris Pronger to Florida Bryan Berard to Boston, Columbus or LA
  19. Sabres need to do SOMETHING other than let guys go. Far as I know, they have a bare minimum of $3.8 million to spend after letting Satan go and the owner is a billionaire. $4 million for a top line defensemen is very do-able. Trade Biron or Norronen and there is almost $6 million available. Throw in the $4 million they saved by letting Zhitnik go and there is $10 million available and the Sabres would still be well under the cap. Small market teams are signing guys- except the Sabres. Everybody that signed so far will help their team. NHL News: Boston signed Mike Modano, Shawn McEachern and Glen Murray. Atlanta signed Bobby Holik, Pittsburgh is about to get Alexi Kovalev and offered Brian Rafalski a 4 year deal.
  20. Floodgates have opened today. Philadelphia signed Derian Hatcher, Mike Rathje and Chris Therien. All three are 6' 5" defensemen. Chicago signed Adrian Aucoin (another D-Man) Columbus signed Adam Foote (yet another D-Man) Boston is about to sign Mike Modano Miroslav Satan has interest from Toronto, Montreal, NY Rangers and LA Kings. Boston was interested until they signed Modano. Offers are in the 4 years at $4.25 million per year range. Sabres have announced........ their preseason schedule.
  21. Sabres are still on the same gameplan from 4 years ago. Be cheap, do not make any trades or sign any free agents. Satan would have made $3.8 million. Deemed too expensive for the Sabres. Zhitnik was offered 4 years, $16 million by the Sabres before the lockout. He turned it down. Sergei Zubov just resigned with Dallas for 4 years, $12 million. Zhitnik should get deal somewhere in that range but not in Buffalo. Sabres still have three goalies. Miller is NHL-ready. Sabres should choose between Biron & Norronen and trade the odd man out. According to Darcy Regier, Sabres will enter training camp with three goalies. Same old crap from the Sabres. Very, very disappointing so far. In other NHL news, the Pittsburgh Penguins apparently have a deal to bring back both Alexi Kovalev and Martin Straka.
  22. Strange how the details of that game are still so vivid. I was at a now long ex-girlfriend's house watching that game. I was so pissed off, I threw an empty beer bottle at the TV. Practically tore the front door off the hinges and went out in the street screaming and swearing. I remember her actually being scared as to what I may do. I didn't calm down until well after the game and after numerous shots of vodka of all things. Probably the angriest I have ever been at anything ever.
  23. You must be nuts. Go stand by the old administration building/suite entrance at RWS before a Bills game and watch Mr. Wilson come in to the stadium at about 12pm. He always shakes everybody's hand, takes pictures, signs autographs and is always polite and even modest with all the compliments people are throwing at him. He couldn't be nicer to the fans. Maybe your friend just thought it Ralph and it was just some cranky old man who looks like him and didn't want to be bothered.
  24. It was on MSG in Buffalo/WNY. It was the TSN feed. Only problem was that when it was the Sabres pick, they cut away to MSG SportsDesk to talk about the Rangers pick. All they showed of the Sabres pick was Ruff & Regier walking off the stage. The Sabres pick was Center Marek Zagrapan. Last season, Zagrapan scored 32 goals and 50 assists for Chicoutimi of the QMJHL. He is 18 years old and is 6'0" and 195 lbs. The scouting report on him is of a typical Sabres style draft pick- "Skilled but Soft"
  25. I threw mine in the garbage. The garbage collector refused to take it. I tried to burn it and it wouldn't burn. I buried it in the backyard and all the grass burned out. I washed my car with it, the paint peeled off my car. I washed my dog with it, the dog died. I finally mailed it to Bledsoe in Dallas. Let's see what happens to Drew this season. # 11 is a cursed number for the Bills. Norwood, Johnson, Bledsoe. Everyone should donate a couple bucks to buy Roscoe a new number.
