  3. I believe the standard is 3 points for Home field... so, we're really a 1/2 point dog if you take home field into account... I saw a pretty cool deal somewhere on how they set those... I think it was online at yahoo where they interviewed one of the oddsmakers...
  4. This is a great thing to do... I just have to wonder why it isn't happening every week? It has to help keep things in perspective. That should be Day 1 of practice... review every play of the previous game as a team w/ coaches analysis giving feedback. Then work on breaking down the next game... One question I keep hearing over and over is whether they are trying too hard to stick to a gameplan and not reacting to how the game is actually playing out... and when you see the stats - it really seems they do play closer to a script than a reaction... Willis was pounding it, but they opt to not give it to him - as if afraid of too much success in the running game...
  5. Here are the Opening Numbers for today - there was no activity yesterday... Prices have been adjusted for week 4 performance... Of course trades among players can be for any agreed upon price. 6. I posted an update yesterday - with prices etc... I think it got buried under the "DOOMED" threads... I'll be posting another one shortly with the new prices,.. I will also post a "scorecard" giving stock value and reserves. I think I'll append it to this stuck thread instead of letting it get buried...
  7. The first week of games in the contest is done. One new player came in and snatched up the final shares of the Giants. So, as of right now, I have 3 teams whose shares are all owned (Kansas City, Carolina, and the NY Giants). Only 2 shares of Indy remain - and given their performance I doubt they will last long. Here are the prices with shares available for each team. Tomorrow I post Dividend wins & losses. Team Opening Price Shares Remaining Arizona 4 12 Atlanta 12 9 Baltimore 9 7 Buffalo 12 8 Carolina 8 0 Chicago 4 12 Cincinnati 16 10 Cleveland 4 12 Dallas 7 9 Denver 7 12 Detroit 8 12 Green Bay 4 12 Houston 8 12 Indianapolis 15 2 Jacksonville 8 10 Kansas City 5 0 Miami 7 12 Minnesota 6 12 New England 30 11 New Orleans 5 10 NY Giants 4 0 NY Jets 4 12 Oakland 4 9 Philadelphia 18 12 Pittsburgh 16 6 San Diego 7 7 San Francisco 4 10 Seattle 8 12 St Louis 6 12 Tampa Bay 22 9 Tennessee 4 12 Washington 5 12 Finally, here are the shares owned (note: I had to correct an error in my listing of pkwwjd's stocks)... JoeSixPack - Indy (1), KC (3), NE (1), NYG (3), Pitt (1) sfladave1 - Carolina (3), Dallas (3), Indy (2), KC (5) KD in CT - Baltimore (2), Carolina (2), Indy (1), New Orleans (2), Oakland (3), Tampa Bay (1) Nick in England - Carolina (5), Kansas City (4), San Diego (5) 30dive - Buffalo (2), Pittsburgh (2), Tampa Bay (2) pkwwjd - Baltimore (3), Buffalo (2), Jax (2), NY Giants (1), SF (2) dave_b - Atlanta (3), Indy (1), Pittsburgh (3) ramius - Carolina (2), Cincy (1), Indy (4), NY Giants (2) Post Modern Era - Cincy (1), Indy (1) mead107 - NY Giants (6) Any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
  8. Closing numbers.... Carolina and Kansas City are sold out. The other hot stocks are Indy with 2 shares remaining and the giants with 5 remaining shares. Team Opening Price Shares Remaining Arizona 4 12 Atlanta 12 9 Baltimore 9 8 Buffalo 12 8 Carolina 8 0 Chicago 4 12 Cincinnati 16 10 Cleveland 4 12 Dallas 7 9 Denver 7 12 Detroit 8 12 Green Bay 4 12 Houston 8 12 Indianapolis 15 2 Jacksonville 8 10 Kansas City 5 0 Miami 7 12 Minnesota 6 12 New England 30 11 New Orleans 5 10 NY Giants 4 5 NY Jets 4 12 Oakland 4 9 Philadelphia 18 12 Pittsburgh 16 6 San Diego 7 7 San Francisco 4 10 Seattle 8 12 St Louis 6 12 Tampa Bay 22 9 Tennessee 4 12 Washington 5 12 The owners are: JoeSixPack - Indy (1), KC (3), NE (1), NYG (3), Pitt (1) sfladave1 - Carolina (3), Dallas (3), Indy (2), KC (5) KD in CT - Baltimore (2), Carolina (2), Indy (1), New Orleans (2), Oakland (3), Tampa Bay (1) Nick in England - Carolina (5), Kansas City (4), San Diego (5) 30dive - Buffalo (2), Pittsburgh (2), Tampa Bay (2) pkwwjd - Baltimore (2), Buffalo (2), Jax (2), NY Giants (2), SF (2) dave_b - Atlanta (3), Indy (1), Pittsburgh (3) ramius - Carolina (2), Cincy (1), Indy (4), NY Giants (2) Post Modern Era - Cincy (1), Indy (1) We'll see who else joins over the weekend... I'm hoping a few more stocks sell out... once trading begins on Monday, people can buy shares available from me - or make offers to other players. Good Luck - And there were at least 2 others who prebought and haven't bought into the real game yet.
  9. I will show shares owned as of the close of today (3pm MT) Here's the latest list... Yeah, NE is probably overpriced... 16. I googled the question... and couldn't come up with an answer.... But I did stumble upon this interesting tidbit... http://moderndrunkardmagazine.com/md_youre_a_drunk.htm
  17. I don't know who will have a bigger chip on their shoulder this weekend... The Bills can either fold up tent... (something we've grown far too accustomed to)... or play like a team possessed... But, you know the Saints will. They felt completely dissed by the league for their "home" game in NY... So, my guess is they will be fired up for this game. I hope the Bills are as well and not in full ('Well, we have a rookie QB and our star LB is out.... boo hoo....') mode.
  18. fyi..... Here's the reason for the ranking... The FOXSports.com NFL Power Ratings look a little different this week. In fact, they look a little different from everything else on the Web. That's because instead of being based on our gut feeling, they are now based on the innovative DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average) ratings that we've been using to rank teams at FootballOutsiders.com for two seasons. The DVOA system breaks down every single play of the season and compares each one to the NFL average based on situation and opponent. Conventional NFL rankings measure teams by adding up all their yards no matter what situations they came in or how many plays it took to get them. Now why would they do that? Football has one objective — to get to the end zone — and two ways to achieve that, by gaining yards and getting first downs. These two goals need to be balanced to determine a player's value or a team's performance. All the yards in the world aren't useful if they all come in eight-yard chunks on third-and-tens. Remember, of course, that any statistical formula is not a replacement for your own judgment, just a tool to use. The numbers say Chicago has been the seventh-best team this season based on available data. That doesn't mean we actually believe that the Bears are the seventh-best team in the NFL, because we know that they just had one huge performance in a season that's only three weeks old. With that in mind, these power ratings are not based solely on the three games played so far this year. When we look at just 2005, New England ends up 14th because they lost to Carolina. Does anyone really think New England is not a top ten team? Early in the season, with just a couple of games to go on, ratings are going to fluctuate wildly. And of course, they are very dependent on strength of schedule — except that we don't really know how strong any opponent is yet, because those teams only have three games to go on. As a result, we're ranking teams with a formula that combines the team's rating at the end of 2004, our 2005 pre-season projections, and 2005 actual performance. Each week, the first two items will become less important, and the last item more important. By Week 8, we'll only be basing the ratings on this year's games, and starting the next week, we'll start using a formula that makes early games less important so that we can account for teams that are heating up at the end of the year. If you've never read our site before, this is probably hurting your brain. But don't worry, we're keeping things simple around here. The power ratings table will only list a team's rank from 1-32. If you want to see the actual DVOA ratings, along with some additional numbers we use to judge teams, you can find those on FootballOutsiders.com. The team totals are here, and we also have separate pages for offense, defense, and special teams. There's also a more developed explanation for our methods here. The LAST WEEK column below is last week's rank by our methods, not last week's FOX Power Ratings. 2005 represents rank based solely on this year's games. Offense, defense, and special teams ranks also represent 2005 games only. 19. Not to harp on it... but our Bye week is gonna kill you...
  20. OK, Later this afternoon is right now... Good luck ladies and gentlemen... Here are the opening prices... Remember the opening bell is tomorrow at 10am Mountain (Noon Eastern). Because I know people don't always have time... I guess I will allow early purchases... I will be your "broker" for a $5 comission (meaning you will only be able to spend $95 on shares), they will be treated as if they came in at 10:01am MT... Team followed by price per share. There will be 12 shares available of each share. Arizona 4 Atlanta 12 Baltimore 9 Buffalo 12 Carolina 8 Chicago 4 Cincinnati 16 Cleveland 4 Dallas 7 Denver 7 Detroit 8 Green Bay 4 Houston 8 Indianapolis 15 Jacksonville 8 Kansas City 5 Miami 7 Minnesota 6 New England 30 New Orleans 5 NY Giants 4 NY Jets 4 Oakland 4 Philadelphia 18 Pittsburgh 16 San Diego 7 San Francisco 4 Seattle 8 St Louis 6 Tampa Bay 22 Tennessee 4 Washington 5
  21. OK, the prebuy period is now over. I have received 11 sets of stocks, so there will be 11 shares of each team available to buy tomorrow. EDIT: I got a late prebuy entry which increased the shares available to 12 of each team. Later this afternoon I will post the prices for each share. Then, tomorrow at 10am MT, you can begin buying stocks at the IPO. Send me your requests up until 10am Sunday - and again, order as many as you like in priority order, I will fill them as I am able (based on availability). Then on Monday you can begin trading. Also, I will try to post hourly updates as to how many shares are still available for sale along with their prices...
  22. The initial shock is starting to wear off.... One thing which occured to me later this week... The teams we lost to (Atlanta & Tampa) aren't exactly slouches... they are a combined 3-1 in games other than ours this year... of course our win isn't what I'd call quality since Houston is 0-2 in games other than ours... That doesn't console me... but it does soften the pain just a little...
  23. 11... with 20 minutes to go... I think some people are waiting for the actual game to start... I've been somewhat nervous about how this will work... do I have too many shares available, or not enough... I'm also still tweaking the prices... An average of the initial shares is too low... so I'm working on how best to give it a weight... I don't want them to be too high or too low...
  24. I will most likely be keeping players up to date via PM, but if you'd prefer email, let me know and I'll do that instead... Here is an example of what may have happened this Tuesday, based on a sampling of prebuy shares and how teams did... We have 4 players here, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta... Alpha owned: New England (15), Philly (7), and Cincinati (10). Beta owned: New England (16) and Philly (16) Gamma owned: New England (7), Cincinati (7), Pittsburgh (7), Indy (4) Tampa Bay (2) and Buffalo (5) Delta owned: Pittsburgh (10), Tampa Bay (10), Buffalo (10), and Atlanta (2) So... Given last weeks results, on Tuesday the following would be deposited/taken from their reserves... Alpha gets paid 32 since all his teams won. Beta gets paid 32 since all his teams won. Gamma gets paid $8 after taking into account his losses. Delta owes $8 based on his teams performances. Keep in mind - there won't be that many shares of each team... so far there are 10 prebuys... which means each team will only have 10 shares available... If you want there to be more shares available, then you have about an hour and a half to get me your prebuys... The prices will also limit your ability to own many shares... One other addition to the system... I will be adjusting unowned shares prices based on performance... So, the initial prices will vary based on performance... those adjustments will happen before opening bell on the day following their game... if you get an order in prior to then, it will be at the closing price from the previous business day... Also, Given this is the opening weekend of this contest... I will accept any orders up until 10am MT Sunday (an hour before kickoff)...
  25. Right now, I have 5 participants. I am now going to offer a prize of $25 to the winner... I would really like to see how well the game works... I was surprised to find there were not any similar games already out there... So, we could have something here...
