  1. Before the season started, I had us at 3-2 at the bye, with losses to the Jets and Patriots. But I also had us finishing 9-7. So yeah, I guess I would have taken that, but it would have been mildly disappointing, and it would be mildly disappointing now.
  2. This is what makes me suspect that Allen wasn't really concussed. He clearly got knocked out, which automatically puts in the protocol and made him ineligible to return to the game. But losing consciousness doesn't automatically mean he suffered a concussion. He certainly didn't look like a guy who was concussed once he came to. I think it's very likely that he's good to go this weekend.
  3. If he clears protocol, he obviously starts. And he's pretty close to clearing protocol, so yeah sure, my guess is that he starts. Something like this is the least likely outcome IMO. Allen can't be the backup unless he's been cleared to play, and if he's cleared to play he's the starter. Allen either starts, or he's inactive.
  4. This sounds like great news. Hopefully Allen is cleared to go on Sunday.
  5. Daboll was right. Josh was trying to do too much and bypassing open receivers in an effort to force the ball downfield. It's literally Dabol's job to be a coach and tell his player to get back to the gameplan. If Allen can't take some hard coaching -- and I'm sure he can -- then he doesn't belong in the NFL. I seem to recall guys like Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells occasionally engaging in a frank exchange of ideas on the sideline. And if anybody really feels bad about Allen catching a little flack from Brian Daboll, let's take a stroll down memory lane.
  6. He's obviously right. Although I have to be honest that it's a little disturbing to realize that Favre is watching Bills games and thinking to himself "Man, that guy is just too reckless with the football."
  7. I read that article this morning too, and I agree that it was excellent (as usual). In a nutshell, Allen got confused by the defense and proceeded to get rattled and tried to do too much. Overall, I take that as relatively encouraging -- this isn't the first time that Belichick has done this to a young QB. Actually Belichick does this to literally every young QB. We'll be fine.
  8. Honestly, this isn't all that surprising. The offense hasn't had much trouble moving the ball, but we've been turning it over way too often. So our yards-to-points ratio is all out of whack.
  9. The Tennessee and Philadelphia games are absolutely winnable games, but they're certainly lose-able too. I'll be honest and say that I'm not all confident in this week's game, especially if Allen is out.
  10. Just watching him go into the tent and then later when he jogged up the tunnel, he looked fully alert and with-it, and he didn't show any signs of motor impairment. Unfortunately we've all seen players concussed in the NFL before, and they generally look a lot more messed up than Josh did. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he's available on Sunday. I mean, how could my armchair diagnosis based on no medical training be wrong?
  11. McDermott is not good when it comes to using challenges intelligently. We also waste too many TOs. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with his game management. Going for it on 4th and goal in the fourth quarter was a good decision IMO. By taking the FG, you're forcing your team to come up with another scoring drive against a defense that has had the better of you all day, with a cold backup QB. Going for it is the high-variance choice that gives you the chance to take the lead on one play. Variance is our friend in this sort of situation. The FG might be more defensible if we were playing a much worse opponent.
  12. This one actually didn't bother me at all. A guy with Allen's experience level is going to mis-read the coverage occasionally. I don't see that as a cause for worry. The other interceptions were on passes that Allen knows better than to attempt, but he attempted them anyway.
  13. Allen was bad yesterday. I haven't rewatched any of the game, but just from the broadcast it seemed pretty clear that he was having a hard time understanding the defense and was holding onto the ball too long as a result. That doesn't concern me in the slightest -- this sort of thing happens when a young QB goes up against a Belichick defense. He'll improve with experience in this area. I am getting concerned about two things though. The first is that he keeps making the same ugly interceptions over and over by rolling to his right and throwing back across his body. He knows that he shouldn't do this because he says so after games, but he keeps doing it anyway. I don't pretend to know whether this is a maturity issue, a coaching issue, or what, but it's undeniably a problem. The second cause for concern is the way he mopes on the sideline after making a mistake and the way he seems to be rattled when he comes back onto the field. Again, maybe it's just the immaturity of a young player, but they guy needs to grow some thicker skin. These are things that I've observed over the first four games of the season. No reason to overreact to one bad game against New England, but the decision-making needs to improve.
  14. The Titans are not a pushover. Yes, this is a game that we should probably win, but it is also a game that we could easily lose if the ball bounces against us even a little bit. I do not like our chances if Allen can't go.
  15. This is a huge game. We need Allen back. Or at least Singletary.
  16. Best OC we've had since Marchibroda. Seriously, though that's not really saying a lot.
  17. He played well the first three games, but everyone wanted Bojo gone in the preseason because we viewed him as a liability.
  18. Yes, I agree. Both tackle positions are still very questionable, and Allen certainly did not handle pressure well today.
  19. I mean, everybody understands that New England's offense doesn't suck, despite what they did today. Not sure why we're all freaking out over our own offense right now.
  20. Our offense was an abomination last year. It has improved to average this year. NE's defense is going to make average offenses look terrible. People are wildly overreacting to one game against the best defense in the league.
  21. I very strongly agree with the 4th and goal call. Our offense had all sorts of problems moving the ball all day. One play to take the lead? Yes please.
  22. Nothing against Barkley, but we need 17 back for next week. And Singletary. This is a very important game.
  23. I strongly agree with the decision to go for it on 4th down. That was our best chance to win the game.
  24. If Josh Allen had thrown that pass, we would never hear the end of it.
