Charles Clay- the most useless player ever
familykwi replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This take is ridiculous. Please, tomorrow, go to a park, run left & try to throw it back to the right. See how far it goes and how close to a target you come. Certainly Clay was not the primary on that play and Josh getting it to him at the goal line was something legends cannot do. Why Clay was that far in the endzone away from every other player is inexplicable. Was he heading to the tunnel already? COME BACK TO YOUR SCRAMBLING QB DOOFUS! NOT Allen's fault. -

Well, it's a better draft pick. Allen deserved better on the Clay drop. Entertaining at least. -

So one problem on the Jones play is that no flag is thrown because it was ruled a catch. I wonder if the ball came loose immediately if they would have thrown PI -

Choke hold is not a penalty. Tacklers can wrap around the head and neck by rule. I refereed a game where a coach yelled we should protect the players since his runner was being tackled in a headlock. I told the coach that if he wanted to sit with the rules committee to get a rule put in place I'd sit right by his side and agree. It seems like it should be a rule and I think it should be illegal, but as it is now, not against the rules. -

Although Lofton makes a good point that Teller could have thrown the ball away, I would want McDermott fired if he actually spent one second teaching an OL to pick up a ball, run out of the pocket and throw it away to save yardage. -

No facemask, no horsecollar, no foul. Happens to other players on the field, so nothing to complain about other than I want them to be penalized so my team can win. -

Most WR start to really emerge in 3rd year, so anything we get now is gravy. It's nice that some (like Thielen) hit it right away, but that's still not the norm. -

When does KB HOLD a ball. Does bouncing off your hands qualify as holding a ball now? -

I cannot even sympathize with your point of view. Youth and high school ball are losing players in droves. This game has to be played differently if it is going to survive. There is no reason for Alonzo's head to be above the receivers shoulders. He doesn't have to go low to the knees, but he needs to come down. The hit on Luck seemed rather touchy, but today's call has to be called. Rugby players can make these hits without colliding heads, so football players can too. -

Not that I think 50 throws is a good game plan, but every run seems like a waste of a play call. Sadly, Shady occasionally has an elusive move, or two, but he's never allowed to get forward momentum to actually gain yards. Given that the draft prospects for WR are not great, I would be fine trading down from whatever pick we have and stockpiling OL in the first two days. -

RE-built? Doesn't there need to be some foundation to call what we have built? -
Given that there's really only been one Peyton pre-snap, that's not outrageous to say. There is a reason Peyton is the name you use there. Peyton also had A LOT of grooming even before the NFL. Josh doesn't have enough hours in a day to make up that prep time. Let's not be so touchy. My concern with Josh is his ability to adjust. He came into the draft with concerns about completion percentage. Dilfer makes the point that completion % and accuracy are not the same. Fair enough. Since the NFL does not require throws off of a crossbar, Josh's challenge has been and still is throwing the ball in a manner that allows his receivers to catch it. That is what makes a championship QB. Josh came into the season knowing this is a problem and it still appears to be a problem. I think he's more exciting to watch than the previous few QBs, but he'll eventually need to be BETTER than them also, not just exciting.

Agreed. How does that guy see TD? If these are the best in the profession, I feel much better about any mistake I may ever make as an official. -

Joke holding call on Johnson. No impediment at all. Commentary is also ridiculous. He's allowed to make initial contact. He cannot remove his arm once the cut is made by the receiver. That's not how the penalty is written. If he pulls the receiver from making the cut, then penalty. That in no way happened. I cannot even begin to understand what the ref saw that made him think a flag was necessary. -

OK, so, I heard Star's name. The defense stood up. That's good. 12 men on, ridiculous. These are things that require a spotter on the staff. Two small steps forward and a leap back. -

Being in nickel when they are pounding the ball seems unnecessary. When Murphy is healthy, you hear him causing some disruption. I honestly do not hear Star's name mentioned all year. Even as a pat on the back for tying up defenders. Nothing. -

Exposing kids to Jalen Ramsey seems like a bad idea. Reminds me of the Payton Manning United Way commercial on SNL.
