A lot of people have a bias against comic books based on what they remember comic books being when they were kids. I knew a guy with the same attitude as you about comic books, he is a psychiatrist, so he really looked down his nose at comic books as being something well beneath his intellect. After much convincing I got him to agree to read Watchmen and the first trade in the Sandman series. When he returned the books to me he apologized and said he had no idea how deep and artistic comic books could be. He said for years he looked down on me for reading comics, but didn't realize that stuff like that was being made. He is not a regular comics reader by any stretch of the imagination, but will from time to time take a suggestion of mine and sit down with it.
