Speaking of Leonard Smith in another thread. This used to be legal and encouraged. -
If Leonard Smith played today he'd be public enemy #1. He's not the only one of that era (Check Cecil comes to mind), it's just that the position and what is allowed has changed. The hit on Shakir was flagged and was very much just good defense in Leonard's day.

It was already 24-7 in the 4th quarter when Cook scored his 2nd TD against a light box. In the first half the DC can make that choice. By that time, with that score, they needed to stop the Bills from running the ball, grinding the clock, and killing the game. They just let it happen. If the shoe were on the other foot we'd be irate.
-
Cook is what this team has needed and they needed an OC who was willing to use him. Hand him the ball, throw him the ball, just give him the ball. Make the defense focus on stopping him then magically all the other stuff we've wanted to do becomes available again. Plus with Cook killing you the TE becomes a relevant player again and there is a reason to have them on the field other than as a big slot. It all WORKS when you have a legitimate RB and the will to use them. That's what Dorsey didn't understand.

Well yeah, but at some point you need to capitulate and make the change. They just allowed it to keep happening. Cook and the OL becoming a legitimate weapon is every DC's worst nightmare. It puts them into an impossible bind which is just glorious.

They just absolutely refused to bring another player into the box.

If we are annoyed with our receivers inconsistent hands, Justin Shorter is not the solution you are seeking. -

WR’s checking with officials when lining up
That's No Moon replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
Onside. They do it all the time. Occasionally you see them adjust backwards. -
They call the RT when they feel like it. If they called every time he did it he'd stop or be on the bench. My point is everyone will look at that image and debate this and that and still completely ignore the RT in the backfield because they do it so much it's now normal
-
Well, if they don't call the RT ever, and clearly see it every play, maybe they won't call the WR either. From their reaction you clearly see the entitlement. Demanding a warning for a player who never checked with the official rather than owning up to the mistake.
-
Remember, this is the same team whose RT false started virtually every pass play in week 1. I think it's fair to say that alignment has been discussed in meetings and that the team is ok with pushing the boundaries of legality. The RT is lined up in the backfield on that play as well, and is basically always. Uncalled.
