Game week thread - Saints at Bills

Can I play? -
I agree with this. I find many of the American players to be very unlikeable. That those guys continually come up small for their country doesn't help either.

Is a CFL-NFL merger coming in the future?
That's No Moon replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
There is zero chance Saskatoon has a team in a merger scenario. Ditto Hamilton. Ottawa, Winnipeg, Edmonton, and Calgary are all borderline. All of them have metro areas roughly the size of Providence or Milwaukee or less. Vancouver and Toronto would be locks. Montreal would have to be considered iffy just from their history with American sports leagues and public stadium support. The issue for the borderline cities would be that the NFL would demand new stadiums in each one and the ones in Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Calgary would need to be domes. The Grey Cup is in late November, the NFL runs into January. No shot the NFL is intentionally going into those markets to play outside in December and January. Are the local and provincial governments ready to kick in 2-3 billion CAD each? Is there a potential owner in any of those places who would be willing to go it alone AFTER paying what will certainly be an exorbitant expansion fee (easily into the multiple billions - each). The cheapest NFL team is about 4 billion dollars according to recent valuations. Why would the league sell anybody a franchise for less than that? They wouldn't. So 4 billion is a minimum, 5 is more likely, plus the stadium on top of it. 25 years ago the Texans cost 700 million in expansion fees when the average team was worth 380 million. Today, the average team is worth 5.5 billion dollars. Using the same ratio the league applied in 1999, an expansion team would cost 10.2 billion dollars today. That money would all be split 32 ways. For ONE expansion team. That works out to 318ish million per owner, per expansion team. I also don't see the owners giving out a Groupon discount just because they would be admitting several teams at once. Either pay or piss off. Furthermore, why would the NFL go into those smaller media markets while leaving Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, San Antonio, Austin, Orlando, San Diego, Portland, Saint Louis and others on the table? It makes no sense. The NFL would rather bankrupt the CFL, take Toronto and Vancouver then add two more teams, one in Mexico City and one someplace in Texas, either San Antonio or Austin. Jerry will squawk, but will be sated by the 1.275 billion coming to him in fees. -
FWIW, Strong is terrible in his ST role. His gunner was running free all night long.

Meanwhile, his replacement was 0-2 on FGs this Sunday. -
If that's all we have he will go back to the Eagles first.

Winston might be the only QB who turns the ball over more than Browning does. His fantasy numbers would be off the chart, but I don't think he helps them win more.

I'll bet you $20 an AI chat bot wrote that entire piece.

All I know is listening to Al Michaels in slow motion is trippy.

Because I used to enjoy the Sabres and hockey quite a lot and management has actively beaten that out of me over the last decade and a half with no signs of stopping any time soon. Their incompetence is shocking. Any one of use could be hired as GM, given a 5 year leash, and do no worse than what the Sabres have done with experts. The Bills at their worst have never been this bad, for this long. Even in the long stretch when they missed the playoffs they weren't worst team in the league bad. They were at least competitive in most of those years. The Sabres have been trash and often horribly bad trash.
-
I was referring to the team not to Pegula. If I have to argue about why 14 years of abject futility is unacceptable I'm not sure how to even begin. Give Canisius or Niagara your money if you want to watch hockey that bad. Paying to watch the Sabres be terrible just to watch hockey is silly. And since you asked, Terry lucked his way into the current situation with the Bills after screwing it up for several years and I seriously doubt he touches the Bandits at all. He thinks he understands hockey which is at least half the problem with the Sabres.

Yes, it's based on home team choice. Hence, Miami almost always wears white at home to make the other team wear the dark color in the heat and why many teams choose to wear white at home against Dallas so they have to wear the blue jerseys that they historically stink while wearing.

I feel that this week was sort of like the week before against Baltimore. They kept it pretty close to the vest trying not to turn the ball over both games. This past week it was clear that they wanted to control the game by running the ball, which they did. It kept the Jets D-line from teeing off on the pass rush and it wore them down as the game progressed. It also ground the hell out of the clock in the second half to really ice the game. Romo and Nantz were talking about the game being a little boring. It was a perfect road game tbh. They gave the Jets nothing. No life, no breath, no hope. By the 3rd quarter the ending felt inevitable and the Jets knew it too. They slowly pounded them into the ground methodically, in a way that frankly we aren't used to watching. It was beautiful. The Bills held the ball for 38 minutes and virtually the entire 3rd quarter. There were only 3 possessions in the 3rd quarter. The Bills held the ball for 12:55 of that quarter. 12:55! And they scored 10 points on those possessions to take a 17 point game to a 27 point game and basically put it away. They choked whatever remaining life the Jets had out in that quarter. It was a clinic on how to ice a game. No fuss, no muss. Allen didn't have to put the team on his back or do anything crazy. They just ran the offense and moved the ball down the field in an effective, low-risk manner. I commented to my family on the play towards the end of the 3rd when Allen escaped from Gardner and rolled to his left. A younger, dumber, Allen would have tried to score there and might have. However, he would have definitely gotten hit and possibly fumbled. Yesterday, he got the first down and ducked out of bounds. There was no need to be the hero. Keep the ball, no unnecessary risks, just play the game. They ran out the rest of the quarter and Moore scored on another low risk play to begin the 4th. Game over. Yes I know we want to see the big sexy plays. They are fun. Yes I know the WRs haven't been getting wide open at times. I also believe that Allen has intentionally not thrown some 50/50 balls that he would have in the past. This is good. Not flashy, but good. There will be times we need it. Yesterday was not that day. The fact that we even think to complain about an offense that has 71 points in two wins against two very non-cupcake defenses is pretty amusing. Enjoy these times boys. These are the salad days.

I'm not sure he's that guy anymore. Father Time is undefeated.

Watch what the Steelers did in the second half. They were crashing the ends to keep Fields from getting outside on runs. They got some good hits on him and made the team throw the ball.

Which is the good and which is the bad? I wouldn't call the Sabres great at player development. Nor would I call Georgiev a competent goaltender. Is the good that Mair might get fired now so they can hire someone else who sucks at their job or that they signed another half -assed goaltender who can have a save percentage under .900?
