I wasn't seeing a lot of empathy over in Off the Wall when you were commenting on which of the prostitutes you'd be willing to fornicate with to help support their habits. I'm sure those girls all have parents who feel pain every day, but feel free to post their pictures up and comment away. It's a completely different thing though.

I am and I'm not arrogant enough to think that I'm not making mistakes. Nor am I arrogant enough to think that these things are not possible. However, if BOTH of my children end up as drug addicts I think it's fair to say that I've done something wrong as a parent to help them get to that place in life.

When you have multiple coming out of the same environment with serious issues there is something wrong with the environment they came from. If these weren't an NFL coach's kids and were say two poor kids from Kensington who came out of the same house and did time for hurting people while under the influence and carrying illegal weapons I don't think anyone would blink twice if someone pointed a finger at the home environment as a contributing factor. Make it a rich guy? No it cant be the home. They HAD to be great parents. It must by other outside influences that turned these sweet Mormon boys bad.

Both of his kids were train wrecks when he was in Philly. The one who passed (Garrett) had been in significant trouble multiple times and did 2 years in prison before he eventually OD'd at Eagles Training Camp IIRC. His brother, Britt, was arrested on the SAME DAY on drug and weapons charges. You have an NFL coach with all the resources in the world at his disposal and he had two kids basically running amok in Philadelphia. It doesn't reflect well whether it's good taste on the radio host to bring it up or not.

The Rise of the Snowplow Sports Parents

My son got a new coach this year. We had concerns from day 1 as the previous year this particular coach had called timeouts during the game and had his team skate suicides during the entire timeout. This had happened multiple times. We raised our concerns to the club board and we were essentially ignored. Ok, fine, we'll give it a shot. This past Saturday, a kid (not mine) takes an obvious hit to the head in open ice and goes down. Play stops and he's brought to the bench. He misses a shift but is allowed to go back on the ice for another shift or two. Then he sits for the rest of the period and beginning of the next with his head in his hands on the bench. A couple minutes into the second period he leaves the bench and goes to the locker room. He's in there for a couple minutes with the team manager who is a Mom, not a trained medical professional of any kind. He emerges from the locker room, goes back to the bench and is allowed to get back on the ice and take shifts. This is in violation of multiple protocols AND state law in the state the club is located in. The state extended it's concussion protocol law to cover non-school leagues 2 years ago. If there is any suspicion of a head injury the player is not permitted to resume play until cleared by a medical professional. Period. It does not matter if the kid or the parent consent to have them play, they are out until they are evaluated. As part of my job I'm the athletic director for a school. If any of my coaches did either of these things I'd have to fire them for cause. I cant fire my son's hockey coach so I pulled him from the entire program Sunday morning and he will be playing for a different organization this season. Snowplow parenting or no? -

There are lots of things that require skill it doesn't mean they are good entertainment. Backgammon for example takes skill. I'm not watching a backgammon tournament. I'd imagine playing the bongos with your testicles also takes skill but I'm not super interested in watching that either. -

Monitoring phone use is a problem? Seems to me a kid just had his spot at Harvard taken away because of something stupid he said online years prior. I don't allow my son to have a phone at all. That's a problem? People bemoan parents acting this way then the institutions continue to act in ways that support the behavior. For example, the agent who got chastised for calling the kid too many times. At what point is it still parenting when an adult is calling their minor child attempting to conduct business. How many times is too many times? Obviously the kid doesn't HAVE an agent yet so until they do is the parent NOT the one who is supposed to act in their child's best interest? They are supposed to step out of the way and let the agents do whatever they want and say whatever they want to their kid to convince them to sign on? I'm sure the agent was being entirely scrupulous because you know, agents. It's like the coaches who call on players for recruiting purposes, sure coach have at it I'll just step out of the way for you to tell my kid whatever line of crap you want. The example they gave with the Haskins' family. They need to coach people on how to behave because WE the public will scrutinize every move they make in public, so the parents are just supposed to let that happen? Parents in sports ARE a problem but these examples aren't the reason. -

In one of her previous arrests the police stated she went back into a vehicle and grabbed several bags of nuts. Maybe that's her thing when she's angry. For the record, no. That's the definition of crazy eyes. -
Alrighty then.
