Help me understand an OBJ trade
That's No Moon replied to Behindenemylines's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think most of this speculation works on the assumption that OBJ would be willing to play on a low dollar 1 year deal to prove he's healthy, have a shot at another ring, and then take another bite at the apple next off-season. I don't think much of anyone is looking to throw money or term at OBJ as he currently sits. -
30 years ago was 1992 so that picture basically had to be taken on film. The is zero motion blur on the jet that was stated to be flying. Now, it could be a Harrier so it's possible that it could have been hovering but it is EXTREMELY unlikely that they would do that in front of an unknown vehicle, plus the plane appears to be banking left. The unknown craft was stated to be hovering in the air. There was no motion blur on the background or foreground to indicate the photographer was panning with the moving objects and since one object was stationary and the other was moving at likely several hundred miles per hour at what appears to be a close proximity to the photographer I find it unlikely that there would be no blur on the jet. Example, take a picture of a baseball flying past a hitter from a side angle. The hitter is not moving, the ball is moving at 90-100mph. There will be some motion blur unless you are using really good equipment. Take a look at this picture. It's a modern photo taken with a really really good professional camera, off at least a monopod. The bat and the ball show blur and the batter and catcher don't. In a picture like the disputed one you'd expect the UFO to be clear and crisp and the jet to have some level of blur. Likely a lot because it would be moving 5 or 6 times faster than the ball in the baseball picture I linked. Also, this was reportedly taken by "hikers" so no tripod set up and probably not a super expensive camera either because who takes a hugely expensive, relatively fragile, camera hiking? Unless you are there specifically to shoot landscapes and nature shots you wouldn't lug all of that crap around. It's heavy and in 1992 it was heavier. Looking at the cloud cover and flat light that day it seems unlikely that someone just happened to be hiking up a mountain with thousands of dollars worth of heavy camera gear to take pictures so at best you're talking about a 35mm camera that fits in your pocket or a small backpack. Those don't do a lot. You're also limited to the film. Let's assume they just loaded a new roll. They get 24 shots. Maybe 36. Burst mode isn't a thing, especially in a camera like that, and shutter speeds are limited.

Jordan Palmer - XFL’s Director of QB Development
That's No Moon replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's a developmental league so not really. Lots of different ways to craft a job like that and the league could set up coaching time/clinics with Palmer basically at league expense rather than trying to have guys who don't make a lot of money try to pay him themselves. -

Players that are ST only…how much value do they have?
That's No Moon replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
I remember when lots of teams did this and bad snaps on kicks were somewhat common. Balls over people's heads, balls wide of the holder, balls at the punter's feet, etc. When is the last time you can remember a terrible snap on a kick? Long snapping isn't remotely the same thing as normal snapping or shotgun snapping. If you're going to have a guy like Taiwan Jones whose only job on the team is to run down field and attempt to make a tackle on kicks, it kinda makes sense to make very very sure that all of your kicking snaps are spot on given that they directly cost you points when they are bad for held kicks and are hugely terrible plays that almost always lead to points against you when you screw them up for punts. That doesn't even get into how having a good long snapper helps placekicker accuracy because the timing is consistent when the snap is the same speed in the same location every single time. For Christ's sake we are seriously scrutinizing about how the holder HOLDS THE BALL at this point. IMO, it's a ton easier to find a guy who can run reasonably fast and who is willing to sacrifice his body to make tackles than it is to find a guy who can make clean long snaps in all weather conditions. -
The weapons thing is always my biggest concern. Stuff is obviously banned but we don't have metal detectors like a pro stadium. People bring in purses and bags all the time and honestly they could carry something directly on their person and we'd never know. Even if we keep it out of the gym/stadium there is always the parking lot after the event. I'm often the person making the call on when a person gets ejected from the stands and I have no way of knowing if they are waiting for me outside when I'm done for the night. To be honest, this is part of my concern every day. There's nothing to stop kids from bringing in basically whatever they want to bring in and even if there were it would be at school and not on the bus they ride to school with 50 other kids. There's nothing to stop a disturbed staff member from bringing whatever they want right through the front door. There's very little to nothing to stop an outsider from breaching the building and doing whatever they want. We have a uniformed, armed, State Trooper on campus every single day but they aren't screening people at the door and even if they were the building has something like 9 different sets of exterior doors plus exterior doors to most of the first floor classrooms, plus huge ground floor windows all over the place. The trooper has their sidearm on them and an AR-15 in their office. Odds of them being able to get to the office if they needed to in a situation are 50/50 at best just because of where it's located and the traffic flow of the building. Odds of them being able to effectively intervene in a situation are basically zero. Again, I don't know what solution there is for any of this which is what makes it so exasperating and depressing. This is now my life and these are things I shouldn't have to be thinking about.

Primetime thinks he’s too good for the Hall of Fame
That's No Moon replied to Charles Romes's topic in The Stadium Wall
I tend to agree but they've made such an even out of enshrinement weekend they really can't do what baseball does and have a year where only one or two (or zero) people get in. Boselli doesn't have the longevity. -
I got thrown out of one basketball game as a coach. Ref was calling nothing. We had a girl drive the lane and get a forearm to the mouth that knocked her to the floor bleeding out of the mouth, no call. My offense was yelling out onto the floor "Make a call!" no cursing. Double tech. Out. I've gotten a lot better as a hockey parent. All the other sports my own kids have played have been fine. Baseball, soccer, lacrosse, swimming, whatever. It's been fine. Hockey is a lot harder for me just because of the inherent danger and risk of injury when the refs let things get out of control and it devolves into illegal checks, dangerous stick work, targeting and eventually fights on the ice. I now volunteer myself to be timekeeper, when I have a job to do I'm able to keep my mouth shut better and it helps me to not hyper focus on my own kid and to watch the game. Sitting in an enclosed box by myself also helps. I've also learned that when I stand up things are much more likely to come out of my mouth so I now sit and force myself to do so. I'll blame an upbringing at Rich Stadium for that. If I have to stand because of the rink configuration, I stand somewhere by myself, behind the glass rather than above it, so I can't be heard on the ice. I'm not the guy who loses his mind. There are some of those, but I realize that it's not appropriate and I've tried to learn how to reign myself in before it gets out of line. The guys (and moms) that seem to have the most trouble are the ones that hit the pre-game/inter game tailgate too hard or spend too much time in the rink bar. Rinks with bars are the best and worst idea at the same time. The worst parents I see now honestly are the parents of the youngest kids. It's not just hockey, it's most sports I've been a part of. The parents that are new, are often the worst. We had to kick 4 people out of a TRACK MEET this year because they were riding one of the meet officials after they incorrectly thought she'd made an error in getting the kids lined up. I had to kick two people out of a basketball game after they, in excitement after a nice play, ran out to the foul line DURING PLAY. They didn't understand why I was kicking them out of the gym. After running out onto the floor. During the actual game. During live play. Couldn't understand why they'd been ejected. What's really needed are sessions led by parents of older kids talking to the parents of kids just starting. "How to be a <insert sport here> parent." What I'm going to do this year is try to make a series of funnyish videos for our students and parents to watch about how not to act at games because people seem to be coming in not having any clue whatsoever and I'm not sure what else to do at this point. We have to have uniformed police at every game. We kick people out all the time. It's not helping.

They did this with someone else not that long ago. I can't remember who though. Cut them early, then signed them to PS later.

OJ Howard disappointing showing vs Indy
That's No Moon replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall
Pre-season games are for evaluating players. Howard started the game, sat for a LONG time, then was put back in at the end. Maybe they wanted to see how his leg would respond to that. IDK. What I do know is they took Wydermyer and/or Morris off to put Howard and Sweeney back on for the last drive. Wydermyer was released today so obviously they'd seen enough but it's odd that they took Morris off also at that point in the game. For comparison, Crowder wasn't put back in at the end even though he's also new, it was a clear passing situation, and he hadn't had much opportunity earlier. They left young guys on to get the reps. None of this player usage is accidental or coincidental during the PS. Howard being on at the end of a game where no starters played and lots of backups also barely played tells you he's not safe regardless of his contract situation. It's something to keep tabs on next week. -

Being on the field at the end of the game is not a good sign for a player like him. -
I most enjoy how almost nobody is talking about the actual incident because they are caught up with gatekeeping about the manner in which the thread was started. <Slow clap>

Nobody said it was a good GM, or a GM being serious. It's just as likely a casual text from a GM watching the game at home on a Saturday evening. -

Not that he's been close to acceptable, but when the tackles take turns yelling OLE! it's not ideal.
