  1. I guess the best way to describe it would be, the throw prevented a touchdown, Hollins made the play entirely worthless. Essentially even with a bad placement he still had ample opportunity to at very least catch the ball
  2. I'd still put more blame on Hollins on the long pass than you are but besides that you are spot on. with the play breakdowns. Could Allen's throw been a bit better, sure, but as an NFL receiver you need to be able to adjust and track the ball better. The fact he got his hands on it tells me the ball wasn't exactly badly overthrown. Overthrown, yes, but not by any large degree. Plus we have all seen when Allen overshoots a guy and this ball had plenty of air to make a slight adjustment and make an easy catch.
  3. He put a lot of touch on it and likely thought the safety would catch him akin to the 2nd to last offensive play.
  4. The rule of thumb is to throw away from the safety regardless; we had this same argument in the reverse over a Gabe Davis throw for a touchdown where the two were on different pages.
  5. You can't underthrow and overthrow the ball on the same pass. Was it a perfect throw, no, but rarely does any throw have zero work for the receiver to do. Additionally the farther the throw, the more the receiver is likely to need to do something.
  6. I sort of agree however Allen's first couple years he had a solid number of great long passes. In my opinion his long range throws are off due to a combination of overthinking or overpowering the ball combined with a lack of catches when he does make a pinpoint throw. Essentially, Allen might overthrow or underthrow a deep route, the next time he tries he'll adjust accordingly. On try 3, let's say, he throws a perfect arc to his receiver who proceeds to drop it. (Diggs, Davis, Hollins, the list is rather long) With the drop Allen feels the need to even further adjust to make the catch even easier and thus falls back into over/under throwing the receiver and the cycle continues.
  7. My guess its more of a combination of a lack of confidence in his receivers and Allen's patience waning due to pressure. If I don't trust my receivers to get open on a consistent basis and you see a slight opening deep, regardless of a better short pass opening up, you are going to be inclined to go deep because you want to avoid having to rely on nickeling and diming with a receiving corp that rarely makes that straightforward. Add to that his endless pressure and it recreates the younger Josh style of QBing without having the same underlying reason.
  8. Based on the pocket I'd say the throw over the middle or sides would of been difficult to keep the ball low. I see it as if he looked at Kincaid but with the pocket where it was and him not daring to scramble or else a holding call ends them he chooses the long ball hoping Hollins can make up for his earlier blunder with the intention to make sure it can't be picked easily. The one option he had was to gun it to Ty Johnson up top but it would of needed to be a timing route to a RB which isn't exactly a comfortable play. His progression looks as if both top guys weren't even on the play's initial reads however. He had a short play to Keon potentially but I can understand his hesitation to risk a pick 6.
  9. I think I'm done with Sean, he's done great with taping together defenses as well as digging us out of the ground but his crunch time coaching is something to be at awe of for all the wrong reasons. Why in God's name would they choose 3 passes out of their endzone when Josh has struggled in large part due to his receivers just not being useful in the slightest. Effectively he was telling Josh, I know that your receivers aren't getting open, and a hold can cause us to lose on a safety, and you literally just got out of the blue tent but go for a dagger from the 3..... WTF!
  10. The no advance ina fumble is only for the last 2 minutes
  11. My favorite play of the night: Allen on 2nd and 10 from the Jags 12 or so sliding well short of the 1st down and protecting himself in what was at that point a garbage time drive. Our boy has come so far in his journey to understand that while a 6th straight touchdown drive would be cool; keeping yourself safe for the next game is far more important at that point.
  12. Sounds like a good thing to do; if the entire offensive line is against trying to run a jailbreak screen against the Jets; then Joe Brady should take that into account. It also gives players a sense of ownership over their duties and play. For instance, I highly doubt Cook wants to be used as a FB for any amount of time. Plus Allen may see a dire weakness on film and want to beat that into submission versus trying to dance around it the whole game. One of Dorsey's primary issues was a lack of any competence in play call scripting. He designed very effective plays but had a terrible tendency of either overusing or underusing a category of plays. Think of the Dallas game where we ran the ball far more than we would usually however that was greatly influenced by the absurdly significant success that they had had thus far.
  13. I disagree, I don't think Kelce become a complete non-factor or anything but even marginal improvement may have given us the slight boost we needed to win the game. Kelce was quite literally wide open on general plays without him even needing much effort; Bernard would of at least gave him a challenge
  14. No, he actually was a very least passable last time around.
  15. Simmonds still needs a home right? If we can do any more cap gymnastics, sign him to a 1 year deal to keep him playing, unless he wants to retire and use the 3 S look at times to take some of coverage concerns off Dorian.
  16. Tua is a good but not great QB. He has two high end receivers that can elevate him.
  17. Frankly this could be nothing more than if Terry dropped dead, Jessica, being a pro tennis player, wouldn’t need to quit to run a football team. Plus the NFL probably would feel good about the possibility of an owner as young as Jessica taking over.
  18. We have 3 years to play with an unusual athlete with a sub 5 40 at 300lbs+ at 6’7” He could try to bulk up and be an OL, maybe be a super 6OL set guy. If he can’t bulk up he could be converted to DE and/or FB. As a 7th rounder and a free practice squad spot; I see no negative there
  19. I wonder if he can catch and play that 6th OL role but be a capable threat in the air still
  20. The nice part about this guy is we can just use that bonus practice squad slot for him and he can both give us a giant OL but fill in when needed for practoce
  21. pretty much sadly; I don't hate their existence but I don't need it to endlessly be shoved in my face.
  22. Just thought of this; Coleman is Allen's desire to avoid those ticky tack picks where our receiver just kind of flailed at the ball. He hopes Coleman will, like a wookiee, tear and arm off a DB to get the ball if need be.
  23. He's a Bill now so he's one of us!
  24. Coleman scares me because he has all the super attributes without any speed and Beane + McDermott seem to love the physical freaks when taking receivers versus creating separation. Also screams Gabe Davis replacement because blocking is a WR's main duty....
