  1. Reform judaism says you're a jew if either parent is a jew and you're raised as a jew. You're right as to orthodox belief. As I said, beliefs and practices are all over the place, so much so that jews themselves differ over who is a jew.
  2. not to belabor this discussion, but Jewish is first a religion, although beliefs and practices vary widely between orthodox, conservative, reform, reconstructionist branches .It is second a culture, although again, attitudes, values, practices, the way one conducts his/her life, and interacts with other jews and non-jews varies widely. Finally, I personally know white jews, black jews, asian jews. A race-not really. Rosen sounds like what would be called a secular Jew.
  3. If it's the right QB, and that may be a big if, you cannot overpay. The right QB is priceless. Again, assuming you hit on a franchise QB.
  4. I think he is shooting for this given that he traded away the starting QB, did not actively pursue any FA QB's ( AJ fell into their lap as the last qb standing). I find it hard to believe that the plan is to start Nate, or start whichever FA qb they ended up with. These actions undertaken by Beane are facts. Pompous, self centered, are opinions. You could end up being right based on your opinions, I'm merely drawing reasonable conclusions based on facts .
  5. yes, but not one of these is a day one starter, which McBeane is clearly shooting for
  6. I find it hard to believe that Beane would trade TT, not go hard after any free agent QB, (AJ pretty much dropped to us when nobody else went after him), without knowing that he would be able to get the qb he wanted in the draft. I'd be shocked if we don't end up with the #2 choice. Beane has known for a while what the price for that is, and seeing his actions with TT and the available FA's , it looks like he's going to pay it. Just my opinion, but otherwise, his actions going all the way back to last year's draft make no sense. And all of Beane's other work to date shows a smart calculating GM who knows what he's doing.
  7. Maybe this has already been addressed, and if so, sorry, but I didn't feel like going thru 30 pages- While I'm good with this signing, love the cheap contract, I can't figure out how good he might be when apparently nobody in the league seemed interested in paying him more than 5-8 million/year. Maybe he was looking for more earlier in the day, and got left standing when the music stopped, but it certainly seems that the gm's around the league don't think much of him. I know-they can be wrong, but still. Again, definitely a bargain, great signing for a clipboard holder, just wonder about his actual ability. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but it seems league-wide, the other gm's don't seem to think much of him
  8. I agree. This seems to be the only scenario where everything they have done , the collecting of draft choices, the cordy draft choice move-up, and most importantly leaving themselves exposed at this point with NO qb and seemingly making no effort to pick up a FA, makes sense. Foles could fit with these moves also, but only if you had a deal with philly worked out before trading TT, which I doubt. Possible, but if they did, it could be announced already, and hasn't been.
  9. I just can't quite believe Mcbeane would be going for foles instead of one of the top 3 qb's in the draft. It's possible, just doesn't seem like Mcbean's style. Especially given that if he's ever going to go big, now is the time. It's early in his time here, so he has time to recover if the rookie qb move busts, plus I imagine he has a huge reservoir of good will with the fans and more importantly with Pegula as a result of breaking the playoff drought. He can weather a mistake. If he hits on the draft qb, he's a hero. Just my gut feelings
  10. I don't know when it will be announced, but it seems like it would be a trade up (to #2 or #3, I believe #2). The trade for Luck doesn't make sense to me. If his shoulder is good, why trade him, and if it's not good, why trade for him?
  11. I expect Beane to give the giants whatever it takes.
  12. I agree. I think Rosen. Offense would have to more customized for Mayfield, then it's a problem if Nate has to come in because of injury to starter
  13. absolutely. Mcbeane is totally exposed right now, having traded TT, and left with dregs in FA. He only has Nate in what he calls a qb-driven league. No way would he expose himself without a trade-up deal in place for a day one starter. That gives us Rosen probably, Mayfield or Darnold possibly .
  14. I agee with you, but the tradup to 12 makes no sense if they are going with Foles
  15. I think nate is the backup. If the shiny new guy struggles, he struggles. I think Mcbeane is secure enough in his job, and has enough self confidence to ride out the struggles.
  16. Doesn't that just broadcast that Mcbeane is going all in on his first round qb?
  17. think about this-Beane has been very decisive and effective at doing what he wants. Dareus, Watkins, Darby, TT trade, Cordy trade. Yet he doesn't seem to be getting anywhere on qb. The list of available FA qb's has been shrinking by the hour. Is it just possible he doesn't care about a FA qb? Will take whatever dregs are left, because he's counting on his first round qb to be the starter, and Nate to backup. Might be wise or foolish, but would certainly explain what has been happening. (I think it's wise)
  18. You guys get it. Add in that this was the known scenario for 1,2,3,4 BEFORE trading TT, and you have the roadmap to day one starter Rosen
  19. no, Mcbean knows his starter is Rosen. He's not going to trade his starting qb, the most important position on the team, without KNOWING who will replace him. He can't control who he can get in FA, because the free agents decide where they go. He can control who he gets in the draft if he knows he can get up to #2 or #3, which is possible to know in advance if he makes the trade-up deal in advance, which he would have to do before trading TT. Given his connections with the giants GM, I believe he did. He then has to draft a day one starter which narrows it down to Rosen and Mayfield. So the starter could be either one, I just think, based on what they're looking for in a starter, it's Rosen.
  20. Mcbean is bold but not stupid. He had his 2018 qb arranged before he traded TT
  21. I think they either have the trade in place, or know what is necessary to do so, and are willing to do it.
