Make the trade for Stephon Diggs

This!!! I gotta wonder how long it will take to bring in a WR that will actually not only catch everything thrown his way but also catch the contested ball. -
Dr. Chandler#81’s concussion observations
Nihilarian replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can tell you that I've been knocked unconscious twice in my life and don't recall any lingering after effects from either. When a player gets his bell rung he usually doesn't get right up as they tend to move slower like they are dazed... or in my case saw stars and lights out. After re-watching the Bills first few drives it didn't look like Allen was hampered at all by any hits. Over the years of watching football I've seen so many QB's amp'd up at the start of the game against a big opponent that they overthrow targets for most of the first few drives. I think Josh was simply amp'd up going against the world champs. Some coaches are good at getting their QB to settle down before a big game and others not so much. If you watch Daboll on the sidelines he is a yeller. -

I never said to fire the guy. What I did say (earlier in this thread) and am hoping for is that McD talks to Daboll and asks him to find a way to run the ball more. Kinda like the Patriots do when Brady is having a bad day...like he had on Sunday. Although, I think a big reason as to why Brady had a such a bad day is that they lost their starting center, left tackle and their line is in disarray. This is also the reason I think they didn't run the ball well against the Bills defense too. NE might have a very complex playbook but with them its all about moving the chains time after time until they get into the red zone to score. They pass so well and so often because they have the GOAT at QB. The Bills have a very raw, close to being a rookie at QB (only started 15 games so far) Besides, that complex Patriots defense confuses even the best QB's. Look what they did to Goff in the SB. As far as Buffalo running the ball. The Bills do currently have better overall talent on that line then they did when they led the league in rushing just a few short years ago. (2015-2016} Its not all about TD passes as when Reid arrived in KC he traded for QB Alex Smith (who was on the outs in SF). Buffalo wanted him too and the Chiefs offered more for him. Anyway, when Reid got to KC they went from a 2-14 mess in 2012 to 11-5 in 2013 his first season. Smith threw for 3340, 24 TDs, 8 INTs, and they also ran the ball for 2056 yards with 17 TDs. If you read through an earlier post in this thread I made mention of the array of talent that Mahomes has on that Chiefs team. Besides, Alex Smith is a game manager type QB and not an "air raid" gunslinger. Reid saw the talent from college, drafted it, let it sit and learn for a season while developing that talent and now he has it. Reid has always been an offensive genius in my view. As an NFL HC in his 21 seasons he has only had three losing seasons. He drafted and developed Donovan McNabb. Built that Eagles team into a SB team. Took QB Alex Smith who the 49ers had given up on and immediately went to the playoffs with him in KC. (BTW that 13-3 SF team wasn't because of Smith, it was because of a great defense) -

This entire comparison to Patrick Mahomes is ridiculous. Allen doesn't have Andy Reid coaching, developing him. Instead he has a guy who thought that Nathan Peterman should be the 2018 starter... I should stop right here because the coaching issue is supreme! Then consider Mahomes actually sat for an entire season learning behind Alex Smith...a former #1 overall QB who led the Chiefs to a 10-6 record. Mahomes also had pro bowl/all pro WR Tyreek Hill, pro bowl/all pro TE Travis Kelce. Pro bowl Tackle Eric Fisher, all pro tackle Mitchel Schwartz, Center Mitch Morse. RB Kareem Hunt. Allen didn't and still doesn't have talent around him like Mahomes has and he was thrown to the proverbial wolves behind the worst O line in the NFL with a crappy receiving corps and virtually no running game besides himself! Just giving Allen a coach like Andy Reid with this current surrounding cast and the Bills offense would be totally different. -

And I think you are wrong. I didn't say the game plan was to throw deep as Allen threw a few short passes incomplete to start the game. On that first and 20 I think the call was to throw deep though. Matt Barkley took a delay of game in the 4th quarter too, so it was not just Allen. Dion Dawkins holding penalty... Matt Barkley sacked -9 yards...Lee Smith false start...Ty Nsekhe false start... Ball on the Patriots 2 yard line and couldn't find a way to punch it in on one try so the OC calls for a pass on 4th down....intercepted. Trust me, I'd much rather have Greg Roman as OC, or Anthony Lynn. Even Cam Cameron is better in my view. Daboll might have that Patriots playbook while running a complex offense, but it looks to me like he doesn't know how to develop a young QB. -

What did I say... You can still have a heavy run game plan while allowing the QB to get into rhythm as its not one or the other. And once the QB gets into that rhythm you can pass more often. Asking the QB to come out throwing against such a strong Patriots defense was simply the wrong thing to do. Asking the QB to throw deep on first and 20 was the wrong thing to do. That Bills offense was dysfunctional in those first few series, Penalty Lee Smith holding, penalty Lee Smith false start, Penalty Mitch Morse ineligible downfield. In the Bills 3rd series time out on offense . Sorry, I think Daboll stinks. -

Its not cheery picking when the OC gives up on the run game after only 17 rushes in a game and asks the rookie QB to throw 41 times. Especially when this same OC is asking that QB to throw deep so often behind a known bad line. Its simply moronic in my view. Its okay though, keep defending this OC all the way up until he gets fired or he gets this entire coaching staff fired. Another thing, this current OC doesn't seem to get the plays in on time as the team is taking timeouts on offense. In this last game they even took a delay of game because they ran out of time outs. This is game mismanagement by the OC pure and simple. -

Well, this moron of an OC asked Allen to throw 41 times against the Patriots last season! Oh, boo hoo we didn't have a running game, boo hoo. BS! Keith Ford had 7 rushes for 33 yards a 4.7 YPC avg. the Bills only attempted 17 rushes that game vs 41 passes. Building a power run game to work the offense from is not babying the QB! Besides in that very same game that Daboll asked Allen to throw 41 times the Bills D had shut down QB GOAT Tom Brady so the Patriots went to the run game...and won! I never said anything about hiding or babying Allen. What I said was, build the run game and allow him to work off that with short passes to build his confidence and allow him to get into a rhythm. Simply put, don't put the entire offense on the young QB's shoulders or at times he will feel the need to make a big play to win the game like he has done n the past. If you recall the 2018 Buffalo Bills lead the NFL in deep throw last year! Yeah, with that horrifically craptastic worst in the NFL O line. Deeper throws require more time in the pocket which Allen didn't have... so he took it on himself to win most of those games with his arm and legs. This Sunday against the Patriots either the Bills receivers weren't getting open or the line wasn't holding up a lot of the time. Yes, Allen made some bad throws and so did Tom Brady! This current Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator has a past record of not being very good. MY ONLY HOPE is that McD wakes up and tells the OC to run it more to protect the ball by running more which will allow his defense to win the game. This will also help Allen develop and not make him feel like he needs to carry the offense. -

If I'm not mistaken most draft analysts had Josh Allen graded as having the highest ceiling potential and yet was the rawest in needing more development over any other first round QB in that draft. Mike Mayock stated he would draft him and have him sit for a year like Patrick Mahomes. Instead, this regime in their misguided view went with Nathan Peterman as the starting QB in 2018. When that embarrassment flamed out along with Derek Anderson they threw Allen into the fire behind a very, very bad offensive line. Allen Still hasn't played a full 16 games and is still learning, developing. 15 game starts as of Sunday. This wasn't a QB that was polished enough to start day one and was supposed to sit, learn, develop. This isn't a Peyton Manning, Troy Aikman or any of the other first round picks. Josh Rosen was graded as more polished and NFL ready...how did that turn out so far? Go back and look at how the Baltimore Ravens developed Joe Flacco to see that they ran the ball more then they passed it his rookie year. With 433 pass attempts vs 592 rush attempts in his first year. That Ravens team went 11-5 that season. Play great defense and run the ball and this will allow the QB to pick and choose his throws. This offensive scheme has Josh running the ball which puts him in injury jeopardy. Yes, he is a big, tough QB like Big Ben...who BTW is gone for the season due to injury. This is the teams franchise QB so why endanger him and ask him to run? Allen does better at improvised runs when needed when the opponent isn't expecting it. My take is the Bills current OC is showing us that he isn't very good at developing young QBs and is calling plays like he has an experienced veteran QB behind center. Daboll wants to throw the ball like he has Tom Brady... even then ole Tom didn't look so good this past Sunday. Run the damn ball, move the chains! -

Some OC's tend to call plays in whatever they want without understanding the QB's they have under them aren't elite, fully developed players. Bills WR John Brown recently stated that this current offensive scheme is the most complex, complicated he has been involved in. I have no doubt that Josh Allen has the smarts to understand the entire offensive scheme and make it work. What the problem is he was going against the most complex defense in the league that confuses even the best QB's out there. Josh was seeing multiple coverage's, looks and players switching positions which were causing him problems. Plus the Patriots were playing a tight man to man which was taking away that short stuff to Beasley, Brown. If you go back to watch the film to look at the NE defense, the Patriots ran against the Steeler's in week one vs what they ran against Miami it looked like two completely different defenses. Herein is the problem in that Bills OC Brian Daboll should have been calling plays that would allow that young QB to settle in and gain some confidence, get into a rhythm which would require working the run game well enough to move the chains so the QB doesn't need to shoulder the offense. Work the run game like Anthony Lynn, Greg Roman did with a less talented line. Once the Pats defense is worried about stopping the run game then work the passing game. The Bills should be running the ball much more then they are passing it and they should have been doing this all season. If they are forced to pass because the run game isn't working then find those short passes that allow completions, get confidence up, get him in a rhythm and good things should happen. Instead, the Bills came out throwing Pass, pass, sack! Penalty on Pats defense for holding! Frank Gore 9 yards, Gore 2 yards and back to the passing again. Pass, incomplete but Center Mitch Morse penalty. Frank Gore run, no gain. Penalty on Lee Smith holding. Now its 1st and 20 on the Buffalo 30 yard line and Allen goes deep middle, intercepted! Knowing how good that Patriots defense is against the pass the Bills should have been working Gore and Yeldon more all game. Frank Gore had 17 rushes for 109 yards and it should have been more. This current OC is pass happy regardless of the situation, QB, opposing defense and he has been his entire career. -

Now look what happened in the 2nd half, Allen went 6-6 while scoring a TD on a defense that hadn't allowed an offensive TD this season previously! If Allen doesn't get injured my take is he takes the team to a comeback win! It truly is embarrassing how quickly some Bills fans jump off the bandwagon and complain endlessly about a young QB with not even a full season under his belt. The Bills offense just went against the very best defense in the NFL, the SB champs who beat the Chiefs in last years AFC Champ game. -

Allow me to remind Bills fans that in his 6 years as an NFL offensive coordinator for four different teams Brian Daboll has never fielded better than 23rd. in passing yards! 2009 Cleveland (5-11) Points for 29, Yards for 32. Passing yards that season 32nd 2010 Cleveland (5-11). PF 31, YF 29. Passing yards that season 29th 2011 Miami (6-10). PF 20, YF 22. Passing yards that season 23rd 2012 Kansas (2-12) PF 32, YF 24. Passing yards that season 32nd 2018 Buffalo (6-10) PF 30, YF 30. Passing yards that season 31st. 2019 Buffalo (3-0) PF 17, YF 8. Passing yards in the first three games 19th The Buffalo Bills just played the NE Patriots with the #1 defense in points allowed, #1 in yards allowed. The Bills scored the very first TD against that defense this season. The 2018 SB winners with pro bowl, all pro ex Bills CB Stephon Gilmore! So what does Brian Daboll call in that first series against that defense ...Pass, incomplete, Pass, incomplete, 5 yard penalty (no play), Run, Run, Penalty (center ineligible downfield?) Penalty TE Lee Smith. 1st and 20 at Buffalo 30, Daboll calls for a deep middle pass to John Brown INT! Line playing poorly, penalties, and with Gore the Bills should should have come out running. Bills Blocked punt for 7 pts... Missed FG. Turnover on downs. Out coached on offense! -

the whining is getting to biblical proportions... Yes, the bills QB is having a tough day against the #1 defense. It didn't help that the Bills OC keeps asking him to throw when Gore has 41 yards on 5 carries. When the QB is failing like he is at least try to take the pressure off him instead of forcing him try to win the game. effing Daboll -

and yet he still hasn't played a full 16 games yet.. and it was a jump ball that the DB was in better position to make. Josh just needs to settle down against the best defense in the NFL this year. Daboll didn't help with him calling all pass plays in the opening series. Lastly, it was on a first a 1st and 20 due to a hold on the Bills TE.
